ok about everone knows i've been thinking about getting this (option 1)-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227210
as i've had it in my sig for quite awile now....but i'm beginning to wonder if it's worth it.....i could just get (option 2)-another valueselect 2x512mb for 80$ and put the rest of the 200$ im getting from selling my old compaq (selling it for 200$ and i have 80$ left over from bday and xmas cards) towards a new videocard (as people totally kick my asses benching and my dads system could use an x800xl) would the OCZ have a performance increase over the corsair worth the extra 120$?(keeping benchmarking in mind......) and are games going to get so demanding that i'm going to need to grab another 2gb in this rig's lifetime?Item=N82E16820145579

That RAM is for overclockers, and its premium stuff through and through. I have a 1GB kit in my machine and its so shiny I can fix my hair on it

But to be honest why are you worried about benching...an X800XL is a fine card, and if it plays games fine then leave it.

You'll probably upgrade your whole machine before needing 2GB of RAM. That and AMD is releasing a new chip and socket with DDR2 support so buying 2GB of DDR unless you plan to keep your machine through the new wave for a while doesn't make sense

well the x800xl in my dads machine would be good kuz i wouldent have to take my computer over there just to play some counter-strike source(parents devorced,go over there every monday and wensday night & every other weekend).....and a 7800 would do HDR better then my x800xl right?....isnt it something like x800xl cant do hdr and aa at the same time or something like that?anyway i dont want a card for his comp to come outa my pocket so i could put that $ towards other things besides a new videocard now.....future rig etc.....but i could learn to oc the ocz.....then would it b worth the extra $?and i know that the ocz has the best timeings.....

Yeah but theres no need for that kind of RAM unless you're one of those people who could overclock a computer given a bar of soap and 3 minutes later theres phase change etc... You could probably OC your COrsair set and be OK with that.

What you're talking about is SM 3.0 which allows HDR + Anti Aliasing but why do you need both? HDR takes such a bite out of the card AA would just make it lag unless you've got an SLI setup.

You could also just spend $80 bucks and get a 9600 and put it in that PC and play CS: S with that, thats an idea. Then save the cash and do something else with it

been trying to get him to spend 65$ on a 9550 but hes a cheapass lol.....as for HDR in counter-strike source i have HDR on bloom and 4x aa and it runs fine so.....*shrug* so basically i should go for another 2x 512....pocket the rest for future rig i guess

The first set you listed is what I have but it does not OC well for running 1t Dual Channel, in fact I have RMAed it a couple times just to make sure I was correct. I can only get it up to 225 max at 3-4-4-8 even with the volt bumb. I had to run a 9/10 divider on it so I could ge tthe most from my CPU so its only running at about DDR 426 right now. I may RMA this pair also but get the gold ones instead because Newegg has notified me that I can do so if I wish. Right now my timings for my mem at 426 are 2.5-3-3-5 and they refuse to go any lower. So if you can try to get

These or These when they are in stock. The second one is the one I really want because its the same thing I have just truelly made for overclocking. As soon as they get that one in I will RMA these ones again.

AGD: Its because its a 2GB kit. My mobo cops out before my RAM does and I have the 1GB kit. I know this kit is Samsung TCCD. I think its because the 2GB kits use Micron chips and they don't really OC that well, unless you loosen the timings alot.

Gold kits aren't usually as good for OC'ing as Platinum ones though, Platinum is designed for OCing specifically

Odd though that you'd have such a bad overall experience

BTW: I have a sitck of that ram already heading my way

I you buy another gig and add it they "might" not well if use dual channel.
Also 4 sitck of ram means you drop to T2 on you row timeing, mean you
lose like 800 mbps on you memory banwith its a sizeable hit, as well as the
added latencies.. Its better to have two large sticks then 4 ... I'd buy the ocz
and I'd sell what you have but hey that just me

Though you might be speading this money twards a better grahic card as that
wehere you'd get you largest gains from. Though more system memory will help
with some games a prime example is BF2...

But it not like a huge thing to have 2GB as after 1GB you see far less of the
jumps you saw going to say 1GB from what ever...but in the its up to you
and what you do on your pc
