SATA plus IDE
I have a P4P 800 and I wish to put my SATA drive as master and use my IDE CD ROM and HD on my primary IDE cable, can I do it?
My original boot drive, a 25 gig IDE failed and I want to replace it with my SATA, just wondering if it can be done....
thanx ..

No reason why not as long as you set the sata drive as boot drive. Make sure you have the SATA drivers on a floppy when you install XP again, or it won't find the drive during installation.

I'm using 2 IDE DVD drives and an IDE hard drive with a SATA drive for booting, no reason why they won't work

You'll be just fine jeff...just make sure to specify everything correctly in the bios boot order. Like others here, i have a ide dvd burner, ide hd, and a sataii drive, and it all goes together wonderfully.

Well you all were right, but when I tried to load windows professional on the new SATA it only recognized 125 GB of the drive....sheesh...is this the fabled 137 GB barrier...?

Somehow you must have set the partion size to 125 during the install. If you faced the 137 barrier, your mobo would'nt have sata...

SATA included 48 bit LBA.
Could be the SATA driver you're using.
Only IDE controllers that aren't UATA6 compliant face the 137GB barrier and even that can be defeated.

I've got the same board (Well, the P4P800E Deluxe) and never had any drive issues.
Although, the first time I plugged my new 74g Raptor in, I was wondering why it just wouldn't be picked up in the BIOS. Took me quite a well before I figured out I was plugging it into the RAID port, heh heh.
