I would stay away from the Linksys Routers. My uncle and me both have problems with them. They have crappy firmware.

D Link has a gaming router thats sends all the bandwith to the computer thats gaming and makes someone trying to send a email wait LOL.

I haven't seen any problem with Linksys ones... they're made by Cisco which is a damn reputable networking company.

THere is that Dlink gaming router which ensures no matter what happens to your connection you can get good pings, even with downloading and emailing and all...but then again if you get some hacked firmware for Linksys routers you can enable the same QoS settingz

IMO, i've tried so many damn routers it pissed me off finding out every single one that was between 50-150 bucks canadian tends to either fall apart every week or so requireing the power to be cut for a second and rebooted.... slowed my internet down..... increased my pings to servers.... had terrible firewall.... etc.

Then i just went ahead and got me an xincom 502. They are, litterly the best damn router i've ever used let alone the fuctionality of it.

Seriously, Even if you don't need the twin wan portion (although, it's tempting to get another connection just to play with it! ), it's solid as hell, never had a problem with it ever!

Now i beleive the 502 is probably sitting around the 150 area (maybe a smidge more). But i paid a good amount when it first came out, and imo, it's been worth every penny. Firewall kicks as to!

www.xincom.com check it out... theres a 402 which is although discontinued, still is one decent router that is dirt cheap from them. But i'd suggest the 502 as with increaseing internet speeds, you'll want the 100mbps wan ports! (not to mention the fast internal cpu and memory to keep you cranking at full speed)

xincom has a 702 on the way 1gb wan/lan ports! not to mention newer features including wireless possibly.

But seeing your orginally post.... sound like you want wireless (blah).... I don't think i'll ever want/like wireless.... just to finicky....

The other option you have is get a $80 refurbished machine like a PIII or even ressurect an older machine and use it as a server machine....thats the system I'm using and its solid and stable as hell using Windows Server 2k3 or even Linux if you're OK with UNIX. That, combined with a good switch...and I'm set.

Forgot to mention that.

Though I want to take a look at that Xincom router Judas is mentioning.... I know someone who might want to use that

The Dlink gaming routers are really nice. Your mom won't notice any issues with her e-mail.

i have a linksys router & gigabit 5port switch. have had no problems whatsoever with either. my wife was considerate enought to get me a linksys wireless-g router when she got me my laptop. as soon as i get it hooked up i'll let you know(cant decide wether to go the lazy way & just hook it to existing router or use & get rid of old router)
