Ok, I know what happened, and I only read the first 5 lines of your second line

that is EXACTLY what was happening to my friend, and it is because of a bad PSU. The this is that when the voltage on the bad PSU drops too low, the computer will glitch and spontaneously and sometimes show a RAM error code in the little display on your motherboard (if you have one... C1 for my friend's mobo). I told him to RMA his PSU, but he was running out of time, so he went and bought a new one and got a refund for the old one and now it works nearly perfectly... so using a different PSU, as you apparently did, will solve the new problems. Whether the problems are permanent or not, I really couldn't say... I wouldn't recommend downgrading a BIOS - some motherboards don't like it and some upgraders won't do it, since they essentially change only relevant parts of the EEPROM, and if you have newer parts of the EEPROM where it wants to overwrite, a lot will simply tell you that you are an idiot and not do it

I would suggest trying the Lite-On drive in that other computer you are talking about, and if it still doesn't work, then it is probably fried. One other thing to try would be to totally clear your BIOS and then reflash the most recent BIOS and see if it helps... I might still be around for another 20 mins, its 4:36am here

so hopefully you can get this resolved tonight, if not, I'll be around
