Abit BD7II Bios Question

I've never attempted this, but is it possible to down-grade a bios to the original on this board? I currently have an Abit BD7II with the newest 11/28/02 Bios, but I'm not sure if the problem is from the PSU from my last night's posting or what, but my mb seems to be running a little strange. I'm just having one hell of a night trying to get my computer fixed. I just built this damned thing and now because of that stupid PSU I'm thinking my Lite-on DVD drive is toast as well as my mb. Who knows what else is wrong. I've been trying to do one thing at a time with no success. Thanks for any help anyone can give!!!!! I could sure use it after the night I've had.

Sorry, but I can't quite tell what is going on here. What errors exactly are you getting? What power supply did you replace with what power supply? Why would the bios be related to the power supply problems? Lots of questions before the answers come rolling in

sorry...just been one hell of a night. alright i replaced my old psu to a macron 400 watt psu that i bought from my local supplier. well after not more than a half hour the machine kept turning off by itself. while in the boot-up process i noticed my Lite-On DVD drive kept showing that it was a ATA44 drive...which i know does not exist. at least not in my world of computers. well after a phone call to the computer store they told me they have had problems with this psu in other higher end boards such as abit and asus. after putting the old psu back in i didn't have shutdown problems anymore, but one the dvd no longer worked thought it was still recognised as a ata44 drive. i was wondering if the newest bios upgrade that i had done just a couple weeks ago did something to the bios to recognise it as an ata44 and i'm just now noticing it. the dvd drive had been working just fine before the psu so the bios didn't do anything to the dvd drive i'm figuring. i took that same dvd drive from another computer and it says it is an ata44 drive as well, but the other machine says it is a udma drive in the bios. both machines use the bd7ii board except my machine had the newest bios and the other machine as the 9/2?/02 bios. that's why i was wondering if i could down-grade the bios to see if the newest one had a bug with these lite-on dvd drives OR if the psu did something to my mb. man...like i said one hell of a night, but i'm still hangin in there. i've built computers for 5 plus years now and this is just all to strange. i guess nothing is normal in the computer world though is it? thanks again!

Ok, I know what happened, and I only read the first 5 lines of your second line that is EXACTLY what was happening to my friend, and it is because of a bad PSU. The this is that when the voltage on the bad PSU drops too low, the computer will glitch and spontaneously and sometimes show a RAM error code in the little display on your motherboard (if you have one... C1 for my friend's mobo). I told him to RMA his PSU, but he was running out of time, so he went and bought a new one and got a refund for the old one and now it works nearly perfectly... so using a different PSU, as you apparently did, will solve the new problems. Whether the problems are permanent or not, I really couldn't say... I wouldn't recommend downgrading a BIOS - some motherboards don't like it and some upgraders won't do it, since they essentially change only relevant parts of the EEPROM, and if you have newer parts of the EEPROM where it wants to overwrite, a lot will simply tell you that you are an idiot and not do it I would suggest trying the Lite-On drive in that other computer you are talking about, and if it still doesn't work, then it is probably fried. One other thing to try would be to totally clear your BIOS and then reflash the most recent BIOS and see if it helps... I might still be around for another 20 mins, its 4:36am here so hopefully you can get this resolved tonight, if not, I'll be around

thanks, and sorry again but i forgot to mention that i put the old psu back in and it still shows as an ata44 and i had already tried the other dvd drive and it also says it is an ata44. i put in a toshiba drive and that comes up correctly it just seems to be these lite-one drives. and i did clear the bios as well as take the battery out for a few minutes to see if that might help. you think i should just get a new mb? i don't want to know what other ramification this mb may have now.

Well, can you RMA the motherboard? If not, might I suggest seeing if the Lite-On works in the motherboard the Toshiba was from, and if it does, trading the Lite-on for the Toshiba? That way everything will work, and if you don't know everything that has gone wrong, thats perfectly fine so long as you never need to find out

do you know anything about flashing those lite-on dvd drives? or any dvd drive for that matter? i was trying to flash the dvd drive to see if that would fix it, but my machine kept locking up when i tried. everything is new so i'm gonna try to take it all back tonight if i can't get anything going. i'm gonna start with place where i bought the psu and do some yelling because they knew that there were problems with this psu, but didn't warn their customers. my boss thinks they should give me something in return for doing some damage to my new computer which i wasn't too happy about. they shouldn't be selling those psus if they know there are problems with em. that's just bs to me. what do you think? should i try to complain to the store manage about this? i'm not one who complains too much with computer stuff, but since they knew there were problems with these to begin with they shouldn't have sold it.
