If all you do is game then no its not worth changing from the FX53 as you wouldnt notice much of a difference. however if you multitask often and have many apps open at once then yes it is a good changeover.

thanks allan
l use it for work at home, like autocad and such, would have four to six apps running when working at home,do gaming to get away from world of work,so would be 65 % apps use and rest gaming.would be hoping it would speed things up,the 64fx does a good job ,would the x2 be better,or is there much as noticeable difference

If you run a few apps at the same time or running something written for dual core there will be a HUGE difference

i play alot of games as well...
And i must say, there is quite a noticeable improvement in just games over a typically similare single core cpu.... VERY noticeable.
Major advantages with an x2.... but is it worth the money? don't know.... i think my x2 was worth every penny.... in all domains...

Yes there is because we all run something in the background while gaming, whether it be AV or Winamp. All these little apps are now offloaded to the other core and it makes a nice difference. They are a little expensive but definitely worth a little extra if you are in the market for a decent new cpu.

well, I love my 4400+, best proc i've ever owned. It is good for gaming, though some recent games have trouble with dual core, which gets on my nerves. It is very nice to be able to burn a dvd and cruise the net and do work with out there being a problem. I cant wait till other apps and games really take advantage of it.

what recent games?
ATM, the only game i'm having difficulty with due to programming error... is anything made by EA games..
Another is lineage2.
(i find most problems are related to a game supporting HT, and it "semi" detects it only to cause issues)

I've had to manually set the affinity on more than one occasion. But there is a small patch from Microsoft that changed all that. I installed the AMD driver with the MS patch and gaming is back up to single core smoothness. Only some games had issues and it didnt cause any probs with the ones that where already running well.

Patch: http://techtype.msfnhosting.com/wind...v3-x86-enu.exe

yeah i could do that to with my 1900+... just not so smoothly... a 3000+ however would do rather well..
what i like is being able to say alt tab out of a game... and load something else up without having to wait for the cpu to catch up..
ontop of that.. i could say have Lineage2 which is a very much a cpu hog to begin with.... load some other game with a friend while i've got something going with lineage2.... have a DVD movie running on another monitor while playing another game like lineage2 or something else... with utterly no sputtering...
Ontop of that... fraps/winamp/TS/msn/ hell you name it.. you got it running in the background..
Nothing like having lineage2 running in the background... with Bryce rendering as well, with all the mini programs running, playing Counter Strike source while frapsing.. and not even getting any preformance penalties from it all. (add burning a dvd if you wish and you probably wouldn't see the difference yet)

I'd also suggest you take a gander at say a dual core opteron (with similare specs/price).... they are hella crazy overclockers.

looked at both x2 and opteron cpus, which would be better for running apps and gaming with least probs, the x2 is based on athlon and opteron
