I think the x2 were first announced and released following dual core opterons... but they were probably all made around the same time. However the opteron is of higher quality due for being MADE FOR high end workstation/server setups, that are built to prevent any sort of crashing/stability issues.
Just so happens this is why the overclock like crazy

its down to 4400 or opteron 175.seems the operton is better overclocker, not into overclocking much ,only alittle bit overclocked..is the x2 the newer of the opteron

The opteron runs on slightly lower voltage than the X2 so the cores are definitely newer/better
Opteron: 1.3-1.35v
X2: 1.35-1.4v

Well, you know what they say; Once you go dual you never go back
Honestly, even after all this time two cores still put a smile on my face as I am constantly amazed about all the things I'm doing while maintaining a responsive PC. Add the insane clocks from OC'ing and I would not trade it for a 3GHz FX

The 4400 and the 175 are the exact same cpu, you would be losing no performance going with a 4400 and it should still give a fairly nice OC. Also not all cpu's oc the same; there are 4400's and 165's that have hit way better OC's than many 175's
It's all luck my friend

4400 x2 help
I just build a new PC spec:
AMD 4400 X2
2 gigs OCZ (plat)
300 maxtor II
550 PS (cable mangemant)
7800GTX 256
ASUS SLI deleuxe(gamer)
NZXT case
X-FI soundcard
2 liteon dvd ram burners(lightscribe)
WinXP (HOME)
My Q's are how do I know if ever thing is running right? How do I know CPU is running dual core is there an option in bio?How do I know If ram is running the right speed? How do I know if harddrive is running in SATAII 3/gbs?
Funny how I installed xp 1st shot ever thing ran no errors or crashes.I didnt even install chipset drivers or amd64 drivers. And If i dont install amd64 drivers then it wont be 64bit and chipset?Should i flash bio even though im haven no problems or should i just install drivers for everthing and let it be?
Sorry im new to all this new tech stuff dual core and 64bit sata II stuff. Please help

I would highly sugguest you download the latest drivers for your MB from nvidia.com. Just follow the links for your chipset which is the Nforce 4.
You should also install the AMD processor driver since it seems to help with some games.
You can go in to your bios to see if your ram is running the correct timings. To find out what your CPU & memory is set to download CPU-Z.
Last but not least run this benchmark to make sure your HD is running at the correct speed.

to run a 64 bit os you need the 64 bit drivers from amd and up to date bios to take advantage of it
all mobo have 64 bit drivers on sites
the lik allows for better gaming and less conflict in system, helps sone people and not others,

if it detect your new cpu in bios ,should be all right ,but no harm in having upto date bios ,check the mobo forums to see if any issues with bios before installing that way you play it safe
