Asus A7n8x
Hey guys, I was thinking of picking up this mobo but I heard that it will only accept an 8X video card. Is this true? I read good reviews about it but nowhere did it mention that it wouldn't take an AGP4X video card. Your help is appreciated.

I've never heard anything like this. I hope it's not true since I just ordered one of these and it will be paired w/ a Geforce 4 4200 4x.

I checked Asus' website and NewEgg, none of them say anything about it supporting 4xAGP, only 8xAGP.

They test with a GF4 Ti4200
On a previous page, a Bios option exists to Enable 8x support
So it looks like it should be backward compatible to AGP 2.0, 4x, 1.5v at least
Probably no 3.3v support though - who'd want to put an AGP 1.0 card on it anyway!

Thanks guys. I just might go pick one of these mobos up with a 2600+ CPU. Is it true that this mobo automatically unlocks the CPU? I read that somewhere. Would you guys buy this motherboard?

Yeah the nForce2 chipset supports 2x, 4x and 8x. 1.5V only of course. And yep they have the BIOS option to unlock the latter Thoroughbred Bs

I have A7n8X Deluxe
works like charm
with any R300 card any Geforce4 card
with any PCI card i checked (TVtuners, NICs, SCSI etc)
Memory no issues
OC is like charm
so far best Chipset i tested for AMD CPUs and in stability very close in my eyes to iBX400 ... which was stablest chipset in my own history ...
and i noticed that ABIT motherboard is not good as ASUS, maybe only Epox one is so stable.

Will work with 4x and 8x cause they are 1.5v, 2x was 3.3 and they won't boot

I am running the mobo/2600+ combo with a 8500LE 128 4x card, works great. Also on the A7N8X MB there is a red led just below the AGP slot. If your card won't work on the board the led will light up, though you shouldn't have any problem with your card. Not sure if this was just on my board or other's....but make sure that you set the BIOS to 8x, when I put my system together I disabled the 8x thinking that since I had a 4x card.......but when I got to the point of bench marking for stability, by card was showing up as a 2x card instead of a 4x. I enabled 8x support in the BIOS and ran the benchmarks again........and my card showed up as a 4x. Upgrading from a 2100+/A7V-333R to a 2600+/A7N8X Deluxe also improved my benchmarks in 3D Mark 2001 SE over 2000 points, and I gained another 1000 raising my FSB to the level of a 2700+. Only a Hammer and a 9700 Pro could of made me happier!!!

Anyone know where I can get my hands on the new BISO dated 1-30-2003 for the A7N8X Deluxe. I've been trying for days to get them from the ASUS sites and there links don't work or are busy.
