BIOS doesnt seem to be detecting Processor properly?
A friend of mine was trying to put win XP on his grandson's PC that had win 98 on it. He said he checked the info before he went to install XP and it was a P3 750mhz. After he put XP on he gets a bios error that says to check CPU Soft Menu. When he goes there it is detecting the processor as 233 (66). With this setting he can boot into windows, but it restarts after maybe 2 mins or so. I had him change the bios to 750 (100) and with this setting he gets the "windows could not start normally error." If he chooses safe mode it starts to load up, then goes back to the "windows could not start error." The same thing occurs if he chooses to boot windows normally. He does not know what the motherboard is, but I had him look on it, and he said it was in big letters and plain as day
"AB-V86." I assume this is an ABIT board, but I cant find any info on it whatsoever. In the bios set up screen it shows as an award bios w/ a number "2A69ka1e." I did a search for that and had a few hits, but nothing was helpful. I dont think its an OEM board because he has all of the advanced bios setup features. Right now i have him putting 98 back on it to see if he can get it running again to do some more system checks. If anyone has any info or more ideas, that would be great.
Thanks
Kevin
