I was able to upgrade again!
OK,
What could I do to the desktop in my sig below to improve it speed and/or feature wise without replacing the mainboard, processor, and memory?
Answer: not much (maybe a DVD burner...).
It's always been my philosophy that replacing a component should bring at least a doubling of performance or add a really useful feature.
So, I took the plunge and signed up for cable connectivity. Boy, going from connecting with the equivalent of a 28k modem to a cable modem is definitely one of those HUGE increases - about a factor of 40 to 80 - really! Plus, of course, we here at the house can talk on the phone while we browse the net - a very useful feature. It feels like this unit responds even faster than my computers at work!
I know that most regulars here have high speed connections already, but the connection to the net is becoming more important every day and is an easily overlooked component of the computer, and the experience of using one.
When considering your next upgrade (or recommending one to someone else), don't overlook the connectivity thing...
