Intel 915PSY and P4 3.0E heating problem

Is it normal to have a 48-50 degree temperature on IDLE and a 64+ on LOAD ? This part is worrying me too, the fan doesnt go above 2200 rpm is this normal ? This is all on stock Intel parts, its a 3.0E.

you had different temps in your first post. Prescott cores do run hotter than Northwoods.

3.2E 129/162F idle/load = 54/72C

WELL Congratulate me I just fried my first CPU I think JUST that, how can I tell, heres what happened...

I tried puttin on some thermal paste on it and then after I powered up temps were as high as 95C so I instantly turned off and I know thats still to late since I knew hitting 80Cs is BYE BYE .. anyways I tried powering up and it it does turn on the fans and lights on the mobo go on but NO Activity at ALL on hard drive, monitor ... etc. Did I burn my CPU only ?

I could sure use help I needed this PC for YESTERDAY

sounds like you didn't have the heatsink seated properly. weren't you using thermal paste already?

you probably toasted the cpu. normally it is supposed to shut itself off, though.

Heatsinks good Ive checked so many times, that was weird too because it didnt shut down automatically. Could I have damaged the Socket too ?

anything is possible. you could have damaged the board.

I don't see how the temps could have climbed that high with your heatsink seated and the fan spinning. I usually put a thin layer of thermal grease on the cpu and seat the heatsink. I know it has good contact when I lift the heatsink off and see a distinct print from the cpu.

Yep same here, I dont understand how but it did happen, I also had that distinct print. I sure hope I didnt damage the motherboard, that would hurt even worse.
