Whats the Difference Between a AMD XP and Sempron

I came across a Socket A AMD MB w/ max 333 FSB and was thinking about building a 2nd PC. I was trying to find out a conclusive difference between the Sempron and the XP. I read one article that said the sempron was simply a "renamed" XP. I am not too worried about overclockability but a little would be nice maybe 150-200mhz. Is the sempron the same as the XP or are there other differences.

Thanks

Kevin

#1 fastest, lower micron fab

AMD XP BARTON, (64k for instuctions + 64k dedicated cache) + 512 L2 cache
FSB 333 FSB or 400FSB, lower clock rate then regular XP @ the same performance rateing but the larger cache and FSB makes it faster...

#2 meduim, new value line replacement for durons made under new fab lower micron

AMD SEMPRON (128k dedicated cache) + 256k L2 cache
FSB 333 MHz, Lower clock rate @ the same performance rateing, gains over regular XP 128k dedicated L1 and the 333 FSB.

#2 slowest, older desigh made on larger fab, requires more power, puts out more heat...

AMD XP (64k for instuctions + 64k dedicated cache) + 256 L2 cache
FSB 266 MHz higher clock rateing then bartons but less cache and lower FSB makes then slower then bartons... Equil to or slower then Semprons

I think I pretty well coverd it

Matth will become famous soon enough
System Specs

Sempron is re-rated, with more optimistic plus-ratings than the XP, so a Sempron is actually slower than an XP of the same plus-rating.

The clock rate is less, and the switch to 333FSB doesn't make up for it - and the Plus ratings are on a different scale - scaled against Intel's Celeron-D now, if I remember correctly.

The old XP core - Palomino, is the hot one
The newer XP core - Thoroughbred, runs cooler

There are also XP-type processors based on a Barton core with half the cache disabled, and the "new Duron" (probably phased out too) based on a T-Bred core with the extra cache disabled - I can't remember all those names .. I think the "Barton minus" XP is a Thornton, and the Duron is an Applebred, though that could be the wrong way round!

I would get a mobile XP if you want to overclock.

Or get a Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton). Most of them will run at 3200+ speeds.

Ill look into the mobiles and bartons....I might be building one and selling it to a guy who is using a 100mhz sytem w/ 32MB of RAM. Ill see what he wants to do exactly, and go from there.

Thanks again

Kevin
