??? Need info on new comp....

Okay, I have just purchased a P4I875P Dragon2 v1.0 (soyo) motherboard and a 3.4EGHz OEM processor (prescott core - but not extreme edition) and I am rather new to installing pentium processors. I was just reading how people have problems with retail motherboards and OEM processors. Will the OEM processor work with my boxed motherboard? I am new to OEM products so if I have missed anything major I need to know about them please let me know.

Since I am new to installing these proccesors I could definitely use some sort of guide if anyone knows a good site I could go to for advice.

Also, the box suggests I have at least a 400-watt power supply under a fully loaded system. Is that really enough or should I upgrade to a 450-watt or perhaps even a 500w?

Components in my current computer that I was thinking of just swapping:

Radeon 9600xt
80 Gig Maxtor
SB Live! card (maybe)
For now 1 stick of DDR 400 (512mb)
Chassis Fan
2cdrom drives
A disk drive
CPU fan

Thanks a ton for any help

Installation is the same as any other CPU install. It just doesn't come with a CPU heatsink/fan.
Just make sure you have a heatsink/fan that will work with that socket. What heatsink do you have right now, and what motherboard/CPU was it used on?
400W should be fine for that system, as long as it is a good quality power supply. What brand/model is it?

I have a brand new heatsink/fan that I bought seperately becuase I knew that my previous amd compatible heatsink/fan would not work. This fan is an Ultra ball bearing 478 pin p4 compatible fan with heatsink that says "up to 3.4 GHz" - I was a little worried about this becuase I found out that the prescott cores run hotter than regular northwood cores so I was not quite sure if it would really be enough to cool the bastard.

As for the power supply...I'm not quite sure exactly what brand it is but when I take my case apart I will definitely check.

well, I took apart my case and looked at my power supply for a brand name somewhere. I found that it said "Huge Bee Technology" and the model number was CTX400WCE. I'm not quite sure what the brand is - is it CTX or Huge Bee(???) or what? I've never bought a power supply by itself before so I'm a newb at this too. Sigh....

Hmmm, sounds like a pretty dodgy power supply. You might want to upgrade that as well.
You can wait until you get all your parts and test it out, then if you have problems, you'll know what to do.
