??? Need help with modem

Hi. Have some problems with my modem. You see I would like to have my own small server to host ravenshield. Buying a new gaming pc soon so it would be perfect to use the old one as a server. But cant get any hosting to work. I have used ventrilo for testing (dont get 3 ips on the server screen only 2 and no one can conect).
I know someone who has similar adsl from the same suplier, but with a other modem who he doesent have to configure anything in to host.
We both got "fluid ip". I have tried to open ports in this modem. Its very easy cuz there is a software, but dont realy know wich ports to open. so i have opened the ports that i see others use when hosting. Cant find any info about wich ports to open on the web for this modem. Its a thomson 510i. I have also tried to disabled the firewall in the modem, but then it shuts down the conection.

So my first questions is: Are ports number standard in all modem or might mine have their own specific numbers? If its standard number for all modems, wich one should I use?

And second: Maybe my problem will be solved if i buy another modem (this one is the one I got from my adsl suplier). Do you know wich ones are easy for a noob like me to use?

And of cuz if you have any other sugestions about what I should look into. It would make me very happy. Have tried to post on forums i Norway where I live, but cant get any help with this.

Thx for replys

As far as I know, ports are standardized for the OS, but may be non-standard for your particular modem/software. Disabling the firewall and having the modem lose all connectivity doesn't sound right... If you really want to host, you may have to get a modem you know works with what you want to serve or do some digging through Thomson documentation - if it exists...

If I were you, I would go for an ADSL router if I were you. easy to manage, configure and administer. Ports are normally dedicated to a protocol or program. The full range of assigned ports can be found here:
