Best 865PE based mobo?
Which is the best right now? I was gonna go athlon (xp cause i cant afford 64s... i'm poor) but it's actually cheaper for me to get one of the celeron d's (which aren't THAT bad). So yea, good mobo? Anyone? What am I to look for?

Yea but a P4 2.4ghz is $170 and a 2.4ghz celeron d is only $100, plus the celly'll overclock to 3ghz at least (166/664fsb) and I'm hopen for 800 dunno if it can do it tho.
EDIT: Oh yea and the only diff between the two (it's a p4e) is the cache (1mb vs 256k).

What about the P4P800SE - Socket 478 I865PE, AGP, 5PCI, 4DDR, SATA Raid, SND/LAN? What's the difference between the deluxe and the se (hopefully it doesn't mean 'suck edition' like it does with vcards). It's over $100 cheaper (canadian).

What's the 8/6 channel audio? Dammit, I just remembered how much I wanted soundstorm, lol, but I guess I'll go this, it should beat the crap outta my current realtek thing. And I could always buy an audigy or something right? The 6/8 channel thing, is that like channels in hardware and the rest are in software? Isn't the minimum channels for bf vietnam and such 16? I think I do it in software now, but... yea.

no...your thinking of bits....'soundblaster compliant' is 16 bit, audigy is 24 bit
channels deals with hardware, like, your audio can be mono(1 channel), stereo(2 channel), 4 channel, 5 channel, 6 channel, 7 channel, or 8 channel
by channels it means like, distinct sound sources....4 channel has front left, front right, rear left, rear right, 2 channl is just left and right, mono is just one sound firing from all sources, etc.
8 channel is currently the hgihest offered, although the highest speaker setup I have seen(which i own btw ) happens to be 7.1 (7 channel with a subwoofer)
and yes, you could always go in later and disable onboard sound (RC97 or whatever codec it's got is disable-able in the bios) and add in an audigy or SB Live! or sumtin
hope that helps...cheers!

I'd guess it's the max # of 3D audio sources in the game

Not as cheap as the 865, and the 875 is pretty much the same isn't it?
