P4C800-E Delux CPU multiplier unlock
Starting with BETA bios 1018.001 (current 1018.004) the cpu multiplier can be unlocked for the P4C800-E Delux.
Flash at your own risk. Always use latest flashing software.

i'm runing the 1018.004 version at FSB 250 mhz, bus speed 1ghz, multiplier 14.
went from a 3.2Ghz(prescott) to 3.5Ghz. did some burnin test seems stable.
using 2X512 Corsair Twinx PC4000.

not sure i get it for bios settings. as i flash i loose all settings. i used cpu-z to get the values. what happend is that the new feature lowered my cpu multiplier clock to be able to run the ram so fast.

Taipei, Taiwan, September 21 3004 ¡V Every user with some experience on computer hardware knows this formula:
CPU operation speed = FSB frequency x CPU multiplier
Users tweak their systems either by increasing FSB frequency or CPU multiplier, which is usually locked for the Pentium 4 CPU when purchased of the shelf, greatly limiting your overclocking options.
Here¦s the good news for overclockers!! ASUS Motherboards now offer the CPU Lock Free feature, which allows you to adjust CPU multiplier to 14x. The reduction of multiplier value provides more flexibility for increasing external FSB frequency to raise memory bus bandwidth.
The following example demonstrates the effectiveness of CPU Lock Free. As the table indicates, CPU Lock Free adjusted CPU multiplier from 18x to 14x, allowing the system to operate with FSB frequency up to 258MHz(maximum bandwidth 8.23GB/sec) and memory bandwidth up to 10.98GB/sec while CPU operation speed remained at 3.6GHz.
CPU Lock Free boosts overall system performance by making synchronous modification possible. Enjoy better performance at the same CPU operation speed and improve your system without pushing the CPU to the limit.
Motherboards supporting CPU Lock Free:
P5 AD2 Premium
P5 AD2 Deluxe
P5GD2 Premium
P5GD2 Deluxe
P5GD2 Pro
P5GD2
P5GD1
P5GD1 Pro
P5GDC Deluxe
P5GDC-V Deluxe
Coming soon boards:
P5P800
P4C800-E Deluxe
P4P800-E Deluxe
P4P800 SE
P4P800-X
P4GD1
|
Source: ABXZone Thread which a forum member copied before ASUS took down the news article. I don't see my P4P800 Deluxe there.. -E but not the regular one. I hope it works nontheless and I also hope it's not bound by certain types of CPUs.
P.S - I also enjoy the typo.. which kinda makes it look like some kind of joke. 3004?

If you flash this bios, you can only go up to 258fsb ?
If so, what's the use then? you may get higher fsb but you loose pure cpu overclocking potential big time no?

the good thing about this feature is that you can use your fast ram if you have it, without having to get extreme cooling solution form the P4, as the multiplier is reduce.

i have no option it's the bios that sets the best setting for your selected fsb, i think it can only downgrad the mutiplier, because as soon as i activated it, with touching other setting i went from a 3.2ghz to a 2.8ghz with fsb 200.

i do notice an increase in memory bandwith GutterPunk
also....it seems quite stable after a couple of 3DMark03 loops...
just thought of something though....
could it be that this multiplier trick is only possible with Scotties??
marvelous board....ain't it?

from another asus newspost, I read that perscott 3.2 and 3.4 (others weren'tt mentioned) use a sort of multiplier throttleing techinque at boot up. during boot up, the multi gets set to 14
