Try rolling back to a previous ide driver version? Maybe a bios flash recently?

Might want to check for bios updates related to sata functions for the board..I know I've seen a few fixes listed for boards I looked at when getting mine. If that doesn't work, try an older ide driver from nvidia, or even the 4.0x(1?) remix which appears to have newer content than the latest official drivers.

many recommend not using the nForce IDE drivers at all, just using the Windows drivers instead.

Well I never use the IDE drivers from Nvidia or Via, just the standard IDE from MS.
That it ran for weeks is no guarantee it keeps working it, still is electronics..
might wanne check your System HD for faults or maybe a virus/sniffer or a trojan
BTW you sig is way to big READ THE RULES

Not too off-topic, but what reasons do they not use nvidia for, besides an issue such as this sata problem? This is my first nvidia board..I used to roll my eyes at the nforce chipset chat, sorta wish I didnt now. I saw no gain or loss moving from MS to nforce myself.

There is no noticable difference in those IDE drivers, it's just the MS ones never failed on me which can't be said about Nforce...
CPU useage? your worried about CPU useage on that rig ???
Think your way to big sig uses more....
