1 Gig Cor. XMS PC3500 or 512 Meg of OCZ PC4400
Which would you rather have with the system listed in my specs? Thinking about picking some of this ram up..and most likely later get another 512 to finish it off.

Certainly the 1GB of RAM, that's if they cost the same, but then you already have that ?

it's kinda counter productive to cut your ram in half for a little extra speed..... i'd wait for some faster 512mb modules.... i myself am waiting for some bloody 1024mb sticks...

I guess I should also add it will not be long after I get the additional 512 to get back to 1Gig.
I'm thinking of this because I would love to run at 1:1 ratio. |

Update: I have orderd two 256 meg sticks of OCZ PC4400 Friday, and should be receiving it this Tuesday. I also orderd a few more items, for the computer plus some items for a system upgrade I'm doing for a friend.

I just bought another 512MB, and all I have to say is whoa. Exiting a program takes 1 second instead of a minute. Farcry doesn't lag when I enter a new area. Games load much faster.
If you're gonna play future games like hl2, farcry, doom iii, etc. 1gb of ram is recommended. Just put it this way. If I had to choose between 512mb of DDR400 and 1GB of DDR266, I would choose the DDR266... |

Nice to see you post a poll and go against the votes
![]() I certainly wouldn't waste money on the high PC rating memory. But that's just me.

HAHA anything over 1gb is road kill unless you do some video editting, photoshop (big big pics), 3d work, etc. Farcry probably doesn't even use up my gig.

What kinda pics are you making?! haha
But what you said about "you can never have enough ram" is true. Last year it was 512MB and you're good to go. This year 1GB is recommended (farcry and more stuff).

My rig works great with 2 x 256 OCZ BH-6 Plat. LE 420mhz @ 2-2-2-5 in dual mode. (if I want to go that fast)
What game needs more?

BH5. You need BH5. Don't get PC4000 or anything like that. Considering your processor you can prolly go to about 300fsb with a 5:4 divider. That would put BH5 at 240mhz with 5-2-2-2 timings... That's niiiiiiiiice bandwidth. Besides, BH5 can be easily run at PC4200 speeds. Just change it to something like 7-3-3-2.5 and you're set.

I got those BH-6 OCZ Plt. Lmt. Ed 2-2-2-5 pc3200 ram- and they are pretty amazing.. Can't get them anymore, but you can get OCZ with the same chips.
Quote from reviewer- "the OCZ PC3200 Platinum Limited Edition memory would do 253 MHz while running 2-2-2-5!" "While there is an official speed difference between Winbond BH-6 and BH-5 DRAM, it seems to be primarily on paper. In terms of timings and scalability, BH-6 DIMMss act almost exactly like BH-5 DIMMs in my experience. If you find some DIMM's with BH-6 DRAM do not shy away simply because it only has an official PC2700 (166 MHz) rating!" http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.c...id=1542&page=1 I got those BH-6 OCZ Plt. Lmt. Ed 2-2-2-5 pc3200 ram- and they are pretty amazing.. Can't get them anymore, but you can get OCZ with the same chips.
