Memory stick position ?
I have a Biostar nforce2 motherboard that has 3 memory slots, 2 are close togather and one is off by itself. I only have one stick of memory, what slot do i need to install it in or does it matter

With only one stick it hardly ever matters, but check the motherboard manual to know for sure. If there are special recommendations for RAM placement on that board then they are found in there. If you don't have the printed manual then you should be able to download one from the manufacturer.

Guessing (only your motherboard manual knows for sure...) that it probably doesn't matter, but I would put it in the slot closest to your CPU, so long as it doesn't interfere with anything else. Your board is going to run it as single channel DDR no matter where you put it.
Edit: Mkk - we posted together, didn't see yours...

The motherboard manual did not specify, i have it in the first slot closest to the cpu like you sugested. My thought were that the one by itself is where you put a stick to run in dual channel mode. I had it in the slot by itself and was running into poor game play and with this system i was pulling at straws to figure out why.

Acording to the mobo layout in my user's manual, there are two DIMM1 slots
DIMMA1 (by itself)
DIMMB1
DIMMB2

We build systems with Biostar Nforce2 boards here all the time. Use the one with just the one slot first. They all work but that is the one we use by default.

Any difference in performance in the slot closest to the CPU versus the one off by itself that you originally had the memory in?

Game play i saw no differance "shitty' and "shitty" I ran AIDA32 and thought there was some differance, but i keep getting differant readings, the first time i ran it with the stick in the single slot i got 1942 (read) and 751 (write). I moved the stick to B1 slot and got 1926 (read) and 772 (write). I rechecked today and got 1943 (read) and 775 (write). I moved the stick back to A1 slot and ran the test, i got 1926 (read) and 770 (write). So i think it makes no differance to the performance of my computer.

I agree. Worth a shot... You must have your game settings cranked up to have "bad" performance with that card and CPU combo though...

No i have everything turned off and running 800x600x32 and get fps down in the teen's . I thought the same, i went from the Ti4200 64mb card to the FX5900 128mb to get better game play and it got worse. So i got the XP2600+ and made no differance, i'm lost

You've done a "squeaky clean" driver re-install? You know, the add/remove control panel stuff, registry, etc. Oh, and a chipset driver re-install (there have been various issues reported throughout the site here when changing cards on that one...)?
Edit: check this thread: New Barton 2600

If you've done the above by swimtech, I'd suggest a full OS re-install if at all feasible.
Sometimes that can work wonders for a video card upgrade that feels like a downgrade.
Hmm, what are your CPU and memory speeds at? FSB and multiplier?
And what CPU did you have before? running at what speed?

I thought i did a good job uninstalling, i followed the instructions on driver cleaner. I used add/remove first to remove nVidia drivers then booted into safemode and rad cab cleaner and driver cleaner than installed the drivers. I have tried PNY's 53.03, nVidias 53.03, 56.55 and now Omegas 1.5303's and still have low fps.
I am not an overclocker, this is why i went with the faster processor and video card, they are both way above the recomended system requirements for this game.
I had an XP1800+, 1.533gh, 266fsb
I now have an XP2600+ 16/1x, 2.14gh, 266 fsb
