i have asked a identical question and i were told yes.by Vampyromaniac.
i suppose that will erase any previous drivers for your chipset.
if you have everything important backed up then a clean install will probably be beneficial.

I tried to work around that, and do a careful upgrade of mobo without reformatting, was met with problems in Windows after that. I suggest just doing the reformat/re-install.

Thanks
I appreciate(sp?) your quick replies. I guess I will hold off untill I'm ready to do a little more upgading than just the mobo, like adding some new HD's in a raid array. Thanks Again for everyones opinions.

'reinstall' its should mean 'repair installation'
and should know what you going to get,
like things that can be saved or not save...
How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP -
This is also named a repair installation.

Don't be to scared to reinstall windows.... it's a wise idea to do a good wipe of the computer... complete wipe it..remove partitions.. you name it... and reload everything... this will kill any possible dormant viruses or trojans that possibly could have slipped in..... or just overall curruption... will give you a good boost guaranteed in a few areas....
