Up & runnin Again.. or is it?

The last weeks my system was starting to act funny, momentary halts or slowness, then losing its bios setting, stop-errors while booting, and last saturday morning no booting at all
RIP Shuttle and in need for a new Mobo.... and fast couse i sold my 2nd sytem, and can't live without a computer
Small town where I live & only one Compu shop and was to sick to travel to another town
their AMD Mobo choises? Asrock with Sis-chipset, or an Asus A7V8X or an A7N8X-X, well I took the last one
Installation of parts went well, but had while booting a stop error, but that should be no problem since it is a NV chip set, and my installed W2000 was installed on Via, so a new windows was in order..
my usuall boot floppy would not start the CD-drivers, and the spare floppy had the same errors?? (DVD or NV problem?)

well to make a short story longer, the only bootable CD that was going was the winXP/sp1 I was keeping untill XPsp2 was out.. So XP it is...

But here is my problem with the board: i'm noticing artifacts (stripes and misformed characters) while in bios start up/screen
but it goes away as soon as Windows takes over, and runnin exellent i might add
but after restarting (cold or warm) they appear again, could this be a memory problem?

New System:
MoBo = Asus A7N8X-X 400 NV drivers: 3.13

OS = WinXP sp1 DX9b (all patched up)

Well after trying 2 other A7n8x-x 's , my system & Asus is prob. not a good combination
the one i got runnin, was so slow 1780mb/s mem readspeed on pc2700 !!?? it was actually slower with Bmarks then the shuttle on a amd1600xp !!
So I'm back on the old (not so trusty anymore) Shuttle AK32a got it runnin again, 2pci slots dont work anymore, but a new batt. did the trick (for now), installed winXPsp1 (picky W2000 refused to)
So thanks for ALL the help/advise you all gave me....

good to learn who your friends are, when you are having trouble..

It probably happens on cold boot. If you leave the system running for a few hours and do a reboot does that still occur? I used to get that on my Abit NF7-S v2 board on a cold boot, but when the pc was left on and i rebooted never happened. Also check to make sure everything is seated 100% too .
