Auto Memory Downgrading

One of the boards I have is an ECS K7AMA that supports SDRAM 133 and DDRAM 266.
I went looking for new memory modules and could only find DDR333 because 266 is now
hard to find. The guy I spoke to said I could use the DDR333 module in the DDR266 dimm
slot and then the chip would automatically downgrade the the voltage speed to 266

Is this true? Can this be done

Have you heard of anyone doing this ? and if so has is worked ? , I would hate to and spend
mucho deutch on something and it doesn't work. i would really appreciate any help on this topic.

I will say this, I have put PC133 in a PC100 slot before, and it did downgrade it. All I can say is try it, if you put the RAM in, and hit the power ON button. You get a BLANK SCREEN and/or BEEPING ERROR NOISES then the motherboard won't take the RAM.
