It is a software RAID setup as such, in that the RAIDing is done in BIOS and Windows Software...
But that shouldn't put you off especially if you've got a powerfull CPU behind it. Powerfull being above the minimum spec and certainly >1GHz )
Software is not bad! It's just cheaper and can be slightly slower but nothing a person will notice unless they need a dedicated server that is throughput critical but then you should really start spening the ££$$€€ on ther real stuff...

....that's the thing.. i'm running a dedicated server and trying to get the most out of it.... i'd got the Raid turned on in the bios (Wildchild, it's my gigabyte board KT600P-L) But i see no place at all to setup the raid arrays...... then again.... i'm used to using Highpoint Technology IDE and Raid arrays (which btw are my fav)

completely utterly false
the chip that is located on my motherboard is a promise raid chip which is exactly the same that goes on their cards
all motherboards with raid have onboard hardware support
this is almost as bad as people who still argue with me that the modern AC'97 is done in software
if it was done in software there would be no need for a chip on the motherboard at all :P

in your bios itll say sata controller not a specific name...like onboard sata controller ...that is the via controller....enable it ....not the ide and you may have to take out the other raid cards ...that may be causing issues with the bios and seeing the onboard ...not sure but possible.
