Cool! Curious qwexion 'bout 4in1 drivers

Hardware:

P3V4X mobo - VT82C694x & VT82C596b - Apollo Pro 133a chipsets
PC100 slot 1 PIII 1000 @ FSB+10%
3x256 MB PC133 ECC SDRAM @ 4/3 FSB
PCI SCSI adapter - AHA-2940UW
SCSI Fujitsutsu U160 HDD (NTFS format)
IDE Sony DVD-ROM (DUU-1615)
PCI audio - Creative CT4780

O/S: WinXP Pro SP3

I only have one qwexsion:

1) any of you guys familiar with the VIA 4in1 drivers?
2) should I install ANY of the VIA 4in1 drivers available?

This link has me skritchin' my head 'bout it all.

Note: everything's workin' great. Just wondering if the theory propose there has any merit, i.e., old chipset + new O/S = new drivers (as opposed to "leave well enough alone").

This leaves only one other qwexion:

1) how to tell what version of VIA 4in1's are implemented by default in WinXP
2) install the Hyperion's or the "plain Jane" 4in1, e.g., 4.43?

FWIW, I have the 4.45's, but those are actually the FIRST Hyperion's so its o.k. to color me befuddled...

Well, if your system is running fine, then DON'T FIX WHAT ISN'T BROKEN.

First thing to check in the MB mfgr's site to see what they recommend. I know that one MB I had would not work with any of the 4 in 1's after a certain version.

Re: Curious qwexion 'bout 4in1 drivers

I think I'd vote for NOT using the retro - XP SP3, especially if you've slipstreamed it, can probably support the chipset without using the extra drivers.

I would not be happy loading drivers older than the OS, unless there was no OS support for the component without it, and no alternative.

So I guess I'd either let XP handle it, and if anything is missing, then try the latest.

Re: Curious qwexion 'bout 4in1 drivers

Eh...

I went with v4.56 of the VIA Hyperion driver set. Seems only the AGP and INF aspects of the driver set are applicable to WinXP systems any more (only whatever is relevent gets installed in any case). The Hyperion Pro driver set incorporate SATA/RAID functionality (which I don't have) and I doubt I'd be able to garner any sort of advantage from whatever putative improvements the later Hyperion Pro driverset may ostensibly entail regarding AGP performance.

All I know is the CPU-AGP controller now sports a date in 2003, rather than 2001. Should be good enough for my ancient system.
