How to config Bios?

Hello everybody! first, I wish I posted in the right section for the help i need .

To start, I have an ATI Graphic Card.
I'm Using Windows XP Home edition

Well, i just discovered Omega drivers and used them yesterday and they are realy nice . Some minutes ago I tried to config my bios to get my graphic card faster like it said in the MB bios page config ( OmegaDrivers.net ) and tried to see where was the thing they said to change but i didn't found them in the bios where i went.

Is there another bios than when i start my conputer and press F8 when i see the " press F8 to go to bios " ? or there's bios when your on windows?

I'm realy new for modify bios so I realy want to get your support!

PS : If you didn't understand me / have a question, tell me! ^^

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!

BIOS = Basic Input/Output System

And you can't modify the BIOS it self you can update it and change settings in there. And it has nothing to do with windows.

For that I need to know your motherboard maker and model since they will have the update if there is one. Usually the motherboard manufacturer website has the instructions and the program that does it all.

Check out what the new updates do and whether you need them. Will they offer you an improvement compared to what you already have?

Be extremely careful with 'flashing' a new BIOS update though. There is a significant risk that your motherboard could be unusable if you were try and update with the incorrect BIOS or if something else went wrong. It could mean a new motherboard if it goes badly.....

Actually, what Omegadriver is asking you to do is to change some SETTINGS in the BIOS. Many motherboards will prompt you to enter a key, or combination of keys, to Enter the Settings. On my own PC, it's the DEL key. Others require a different key. So, if your setup is requesting the F8 key to enter the Settings, then you're on the right track. Just make sure you're not using the key that gets you to the Update BIOS option.

If you'll post which motherboard you're using, and maybe a bit about your PC, we can be of better help to you. If you're not particularly sure what is actually in the PC, you can download BeLarc Advisor to get all you need to know and more.

Belarc - System Management For The Internet Age

Just copy out the essential information for us and paste that here.

Cheers!

Like it was previously stated, if you dont know what your doing it is probably best to leave the system where it is, and not flash the mobo BIOS because if it goes amiss it could very well be the last time you ever see that board power on. And it is probably far out of warranty now to have it replaced, so you would have to spend money on a new BIOS... and really I cant see it adding any great performance to your videocard.

And a few of the optimizations from that page are much more complex than what they are actually given to do, and could cause stability issues.

Also is your videocard PCI, AGP, PCIE we would need more information on the overall system to help you tune your BIOS, if it even allows you to tune your BIOS, generally it is only open to enthusiast class motherboards.

hey there and welcome to DH! we're here to help and Omegadrivers are awesome aren't they?

well as everyone says, we need the entire set of system specs to aid you better.

is your system a custom-built, hand made system? or is it a pre-built system from a 3rd party company like Dell, HP, eMachines, IBM etc.

we will need your motherboard or system make, Processor type, RAM type and speed, and the exact ATi card including its interface (AGP, PCI, PCI-E)

MSI has a bios update utility that detects you're current bios.It will search online to see if there is an bios update available.

You can download the app Here.

But as mentioned above, bios updates don't really improve performance. It can quite often improve stability or compatibility

If you do decide to try it out,it's really at your own risk.

Bartons (2500+ in this case) are rated up to 85C as a max operating temperature... chances are its a crappy stock/oem heatsink and its probably very dust. Those temps are quite in line for stock installation.

Although they are rated to thermally be acceptable up to 85C.... i would NEVER allow it to hit that.. as i've seen some of these CPUS simply start to fail even @ 65ish...

Any system i've setup with these cpu's i've set the warning temperature @ 60 and shutdown @ 65 due to running into this limitation..... and it's GOOD warning for the user of these computer to get the system cleaned/checked when the warning kicks in.. it's a good incentive

Typically those CPU's shouldn't go much above 55*C under load (and usually those values are when overclocked lightly)..... 50*C is usually typical for stock or lower...

IF it's an OEM build, quite often they use little to nearly no thermal paste... or use the heatsink supplied PAD.. which i've found to harden and stop providing a thermal transfer after a good solid hard working year of work, or several years of random generic use.

Emediately replace this with good quality thermal paste has ALWAYS produced nearly an instant halfing of cpu heat...

I get really antsy whenever I see my processor getting near -- and staying at -- 60C+. At that point, I start looking for better cooling/thermal solutions or for an accumulation of dust and a failing fan.

A good cooler does so much that it's incredible. The stock cooler I got with my current cpu was at 45C when Idle.. now with my huge cooler and case with an enormous fan to pump air in it's on 45C at 100% load.

It's not just that things run cooler and more stable, it extends the life of the cpu as well. If it often is close to a temp where it shuts down to protect itself the wear and tear is so much bigger and it will eventually fail completely.
