AT&T Smart Phones

Well this is one of those "miscellaneous" threads

I have AT&T as my carrier, as it seems to have the best coverage in Oregon and I travel the western two-thirds of the state quite a bit. The guy I travel with most often uses Verizon. Mine works about 95% of the places his does, but his only works 85% of what mine does. That is my unscientific perception anyway. T-Mobile and Sprint are far behind.

I have been using a Nokia 6102 which has performed well for me, but the battery is fading after moderate use in 3 to 4 days compared to the week or better of nearly two years ago.

I can get a upgrade for free, or pay a little more and get a "Smart Phone" while there are many choices, I think the Samsung Blackjack, Palm Treo 680 and 750, and the "Tilt" phone are the ones i have narrowed down to.

The Treo 680 is the cheapest and use a Palm OS, I have used Palms in the distant past and like their software.

The rest use Windows CE, and since we are a MS using organization (Government) that might be better. but we have been told that they are going to issue Tablets and PDA's so I may have to use their equipment if that comes true (We'll likely get today's technology in two years)

So since my work won't interface with my work computer for security reasons, I might as well use the Palm OS and save some money.

Also while I would like to be "connected" I can't afford to get all those add on subscriptions to enable all that crapola. (No it is not an 'Authorized' expense)

So my plan is to upgrade to the Treo 680. The Blackjack is next in the price wars and the n the 750. I would truly like the Tilt, but too much to pay unless all those subscriptions are in effect.

When they do get the mobile goodies, Tablets and PDA's they will have Sprint connections. Sprint won't work half the places we go, but I guess half is better than nothing.

I am not moving on this real soon so if any other Pro or Cons come to mind I would like to hear them

Again I am looking at the Palm Treo 680 as my planned upgrade.

Thanks
