Motherboard issues no video signal

Hi

Could someone assist me in troubleshooting a mobo for compaq presario 6000. I inherited it without a cpu. I installed a new athlon xp 1600 and pc2100 mem. The power turns on however the light on the case power switch is both red and green. I donot get any video on the monitor display. I checked the PSU which is original 300w; I changed the monitor to a diiferent comp. and it worked fine; I think there is a short somewhere.

Please advise on what steps I could perform in order to restore this presario. The mobo appears to be a good brand msi. I tried msi however they told me it is a oem board so they could not help.

Desperate,
Engeera

How many sticks of ram are installed? I suggest trying to boot it with only 1 stick if there is more than one, perhaps maybe some more system info as well.

Clear the CMOS using the jumper.

Try grabbing a video card from another computer.

Also, if you have memory in another machine that would work in this one, try swapping.

That would rule out everything but the CPU/mobo. What CPU was in it originally?
