Help a novice plz!

OK I installed my new ASUS A7N8X mobo. I put my new HDD as Master with the CDRW and DVD as secondary master and slave. When I tried ti install XP it says cannot find HD. I tried a few different configs and ended up with my HDD config`d with the jumper on CS WINXP saw the HDD and installed. In BIOS it reads
Primary Master : NONE
Secondary Master : CDRW
Primary Slave : DVD
Secondary Slave: HDD

I do not have a RAID config and I think thats whats messing me up. This is the first system I built and I have read the mobo manual. Also, the multiplier setiings, I have an AMD 3000, I have the CPU @ 166 with a multiplier of 13.0 to reach the specs for the CPU. Dumb question What are those other settings for the multiplier that have two sets of numbers? ie 8.5 / 16.0 etc. If anyone has this board I really would appreciate a little advice on what your setup is. I have the mem freq on AUTO. Thanks in advance for all your replies

System specs

AMD 3000
A7N8X mobo
512 PC 3200 RAM
40 G WD HDD

This may be too simplistic, but it's worth a try. Have you tried removing the jumper on the HD completely? I for some HD's, you need to remove the jumper if you want it to be master. Give that a try, and we can go from there.

Single-Drive Installation
If you are installing the drive as the only IDE drive on the cable and the system plus the ribbon cable do not support Cable Select, place the jumper shunt in the neutral storage position.

I got this off WD's support page. Hope it helps.

Thanks Talon!! Putting the jumper in the neutral position has everything setup right:

HDD: Primary Master
CDRW: Secondary Master
DVD: Secondary Slave

Do u know what the two number multipliers are for? As I said I have mine set @ 13, but there are different settings that I do not know. My machine is running great Good FPS and stable maybe I should leave it alone . Again thanks for your help!!

No problem, glad I could help out. Unfortunately I don't know what those multipliers are for, so someone else may have to give you a hand. I will say that you may be on to something when you say "My machine i running great.....maybe I should leave it alone"!
