A few Questions about upgrading...
Hello, I'm currently using this joke of a motherboard http://www.matsonic.com/ms7117c.htm I bought my current PC already built. I had a friend help me build my pentium. I've upgraded my system in every aspect except processor, motherboard. I was wondering if anyone could recommened a good motherboard and processor for gaming. My other question is this I know how easy it is to install ram and the processor. Do most boards come with jumpers set or will I have to set all of them. Same goes with bios do I need to change all the settings before startup? The only experiance I have with jumper settings is setting the configuration for my harddrives... Any help is appreaciated.

Do you want to overclock a lot? If so then check out the nForce2 motherboards. KT400 is a nice cheap board. But personally I'd choose anything with the nForce2 chipset. It is just so feature rich.

I don't plan on over clocking at the moment. I went and looked at the guide here on how to overclock and it doesn't seem all that complicated. I'm trying to build a decent gaming computer that will last about 3 years before having to upgrade. I've plan on buying the ati 9800 later this year. As you may have noticed my board only supports up to 2x agp not 8x agp. I was wondering if you could explain to me what makes the nforce board so great. I've been thinking of going a gigabyte board but I'm not sure how great they are.

nForce you don't have to deal with PCI and AGP speeds. When you overclock the FSB it also overclocks the PCI and AGP speeds and makes PCI and AGP devices unstable (in non-nForce2 boards). KT400 is nice cuz it has dividers that allow you to use, lets say, PC3200 with a 266FSB processor. It lets you run the processor at a 200mhz clock along with the ram. The nForce can do that as well.

Are you going Intel or AMD? If you're going with Intel, I highly recommend the Abit IC7-G Canterwood motherboard. It's supports dual-channel memory configuration and a slew of other features. It's Intel's top of the line chipset. Pair that with an 800 MHz FSB processor and you can't go wrong.

AMD system will be a very inexpensive rig for gaming. Any MB utilizing nForce2 chipset is the way to go. Asus, Abit, and EpoX.
