BIOS Flash!!
Ive hit a problem trying to update my current BIOS on my ASUS A7v266-E mobo
See here for BIOS instructions
When i run the Flash utility in DOS i am able to save my current BIOS to disk
My second option then is to Update BIOS including Boot Block and ESCD
This is the option listed on the ASUS instructions above, but on my screen it reads
Update BIOS without Boot Block and ESCD
When i select this option and key in the new BIOS file name
i get a DOS error stating error - file open
I think there must be something disabling me from flashing the BIOS, but i dont know what or where to find it
Ive looked within my AwardBIOS setup but cant see anything
Any ideas guys would be much appreciated

You may have bios guardian enabled in your bios... you need to disable this before you can flash your bios...

I doubt its non-flashable. something is obviously stopping it from flashing the bios. there has to be a setting in there, some kind of guardian, ive never owned an asus mobo so I dont really have alot of experience with them but they are generally all the same. ive looked at the site and it all seems pretty simple.

Wow, this is a new one on me.
I'd go through every option possible in the Advanced Configuration menu to see if there'[s a BIOS protector. You might also wish to disable the BIOS's AntiVirus protection if that is enabled.
Also, try downloading the BIOS file again using just a browser if you used a download manager before. Download managers have been to blame quite a bit lately for corrupting BIOS files; thankfully, they won't even flash.

two things I would try:
1. clear your CMOS and reboot. then go through and look for any anti-virus or BIOS update options in the BIOS. Seems like my a7v-133 has a BIOS update enable or disable option. Make sure that is enabled and anti-virus is off
2. also on my a7v on the mobo cd, there is a program I can install that will allow me to update the BIOS from windows. Well, sort of. Its auto where it will go to Asus and pull down latest BIOS and then set itself up to run on next reboot. While not my first option, it does work!
and no, your mobo is not "unflashable"
