open optical drive

is there anyway to do it? say, you know the person's IP address. i know it can be done, but how? telnet? i would like to do it to a few people i know . freak them out while doing so

Depends if they're on a LAN or not.

If its on a LAN all you have to do is know the netbios name of that computer, fire up compmgmt.msc and then right click on the local computer icon --> Connect to another computer.

Then go into the removable storage icon and you can eject/inject media from there.

If you're doing it to a WAN IP you know that's somewhat illegal But in theory it could be done the same way if you can force entry to their machine/they don't have a firewall, log in as the administrator then go through the removable storage and eject/inject it from there

yea, it's being done through a WAN IP. and AFAIK, the only firewall this person has is just the default winXP pro firewall. i know the IP address, but i don't know how to connect to it.

Well see if you can telnet in, if they haven't bothered to run a decent firewall (XP firewall != decent) then you should be able to get in without much effort
