What's the peak memory B/W for 845PE & 7205 (Granite Bay)??
I know the peak memory bandwidth for the Intel 845 chipset is 2.1GB/s using DDR266 (PC2100) memory. I was wondering, what's the peak memory B/W for the Intel 845PE using DDR333 (PC2700) and the peak memory B/W for the newer Granite bay M/B (7205) with their dual-channel DDR266 support?
People have been telling me that one of my bottlenecks when playing Unreal 2 with my current system setup is memory B/W. Will upgrading my M/B and therefore increasing my memory B/W increase the performance of Unreal 2? Currently, with my PNY GF4 Ti-4200 and my 1.8Ghz (256KB L2 cache) overclocked to 2.01GHz, I'm getting framerates around 25-45fps at medium settings for most details (1024x768 resolution). Yesterday, I bought an ATI-built Radeon 9700Pro and the performance of Unreal 2 didn't improve much. So, I returned the 9700Pro for a full refund and I'm now comtemplating a change in M/B and CPU. |

I have a related question, no answer, sorry. A friend of mine just invested in a Granite Bay (Gigabyte's 8INXP), he has a 1.8A P4 and a 512MB stick of PC3200. This seems to be a pointless matchup (besides the aggressiver timings) as his FSB is supposed to be 100mhz for the CPU. Sure he can overclock a bit, even up to 133 and probably beyond. MY question is, which processors are recpmmended for this board to take best advantage of the RAM? Being an AMD user I dont really know Intel stuff (never had THAT kind of cash). Surely the only offically RAM of the 1.8A P4 isn't PC1600?? No async either? And is this Granite Bay chipset going to be the budget board of the future as apparently there is going to be no offical 166mhz (667) as I read the next move is to 800Mhz FSB?

Optimummind, the max bandwidth is 4200 MB/s (dual-channel is simply 2x the 2100 from the DDR266) As for your Unreal problem, I don't know . . . The 9700 should have helped quite a bit . . . I think
