So I finally built a WinXp intall disc (with SATA drivers), and upgraded the Tosh to XP (dual boot).

No more crashing video drivers. HDMI resolutions to 2048x1536, including the 1600x1200 I needed for my Viewsonic monitor. Wooo!

And as a bonus, I can run all of my software (like AutoCAD) without hassles.

Now to sort through 500 megs of Toshiba WinXP drivers.

This is definately an upgrade that I can recommend.

Sorry if this is a stupid question; but is the Mobility x700 "new" enough to be supported by the updated Catalyst driver (the one that the earlier post gives a link to)? Thanks in advance...

I already sent feedback few weeks ago. With my laptop nothing really worked. I tried most possible drivers. I even started thinking that IGP over heating. Re engineered thermal cooling unint, still same, random VPU recoverings.
Now with Catalyst 8.7 for IGP's i got some stability. Not as bad as used to be. Infinite loop recovery on desktop. But still i'm having VPU recovery nightmare. 2D now looks OK, VPU recovery on desktop is rare but still happens.
But if we talking about games, just any game cause VPU recovery. Error reporting pops up and my laptop hangs or i see blanck screen. So, power button is my best friend.
When i uninstall Catalyst ceter and disply drivers, laptop works perfectly, no problems at all. Under Linux, Mesa software OpenGL drivers work perfectly. Everything changes vhen i install propetary drivers. Linux starts locking up randomly.
Laptop is Dell Vostro 1000, with Express 1150 IGP.
