Hello speedwaystar:

It sounds like Vista installed without setting up proper ACPI / HAL drivers because your older BIOS didnt fully support it, or Vista didn't think it did.

Even with the new BIOS, Vista will not be able to update these core drivers, and a FULL CLEAN INSTALL IS STRONGLY recommend. Attempt to manually update this is nothing but messy, and usually results in the system becoming unbootable.

If that doesn't help, all i can suggest is run the program "msinfo32" in Vista, and expand the Hardware section, and click on "Conflicts/Sharing" section, and enable/disable different devices using the Radeon's resources (restarting each time) to see if you can bring the Radeon IGP320M back online.

I did notice your system's Memory mappings for the Radeon IGP320M are different then my Vista's settings. I am unsure if this is related to the reason it is not starting properly, or if its from the design of your notebook's motherboard.

Hello Blitzkriege:

I would need more information regarding the "less than desirable" preformance with the Radeon IGP 34xM to suggest a possible fix. Keep in mind these chips are Second Generation Radeon Cores, and will not preform like the 3rd, 4th, 5th, or the upcoming 6th gen cores.
The IGP3xxM cores are based on the R200 core, with TnL hardware support, vertex shaders, and 160MHz operating speed.

You could also go into ATi's Control Panel, and set both OpenGL and DirectX to "Optimal Preformance" modes.

You will also need to allocate enough UMA meory to the IGP, and still have ample system memory. For example, my UMA set to 128MB for the Radeon IGP 320M, and my system has 896MB available to Windows XP. All the older DirectX 7 and 8.1 based games run rather smoothly this way for me.

The Radeon IGP 340M/345M/350M are all the same chip. The different models only refer to different models of Intel Processors they are configured to run with. (Celeron, Pentium 4 . . . etc) They all use the ATi DEV_4337 chip identity. The reason its listed as a 340M is becuase it would inflate the INF code unnessecarily to name the other's correctly by including individual SUBSYS parameters. Such Parameters are customized to notebook models/manuafacture.....which in short.....can make coding messy.

Resolution support in the driver is made very generic because different notebooks have different LCD panels. If you would like more information to get more resolutions, go here:
http://www.tweakxp.com/article36759.aspx

Good luck and take care.

Well Random,

I went from omega 5.9's to the catalyst 5.13b. Although I saw improvement in some areas, others seemed to take a drop. For example, in world of warcraft, in areas that were highly populated, the computer would almost stop completely to .7 fps (yes .7). In other areas I would get nearly 30 fps. Would I would like is for a sturdy average of 15-20 fps and was wondering what it might take. The positive with 5.13b is that some things like vertex animation shaders have opened up and the image looks crisper.

I have gone to great lengths to try and figure it out. I have a gig of ram, my uma is set to 128 mb, and I've even taken system cooling procedures into account.

Given everything I've tried, I still can't get great improvement from one set of drivers to another. I will try messing with the control panel that was provided with 5.13b but I heard a friend saying that they don't quite work correctly with 345M but I will see if it does anything and let you guys know.

Hello Blitz,

In my past experiments / research / benchmarks posted much much earlier in this post, i found that Catalyst 5.6-5.9 provide the best Raw Direct3D preformance. I have been recommending the 5.13b from station-drivers because it is slightly newer, and supports more games. I have noticed that the IGP 3xxM chips tend to preform slightly slower with newer drivers, but i haven't found anything too significant that would bring a came to a crawl like you mentioned. Although i have seen that happen on some pretty rigged up systems. It is possible something else could be causing the problem.

Take care, and have fun.

If I could get the 15-20 fps average that alex mentioned, I would be more than happy. If I am intepretting what you're saying... in the 3xx, the xx just refers to the cpu the integrated video chip refers to. If Alex is able to get 15-20 in MC on a 320, then the only difference is the cpu. I'm about at my whits end trying to find something reliable enough to play wow on but at the same time I don't want to upgrad comps til directx 10. Se lavi. Hopefully someone has figured it out because I'm running out of options.

Good to remember with old laptops..

I have been reading this thread for a long time now.. Upgrading my hp ze 4700 to the 5.9 drivers for playing games as randomness has recommended and using hp stock drivers for playing videos.. Everything has been pretty smooth.. But lately, I had really , really bad performance from the computer.. Hangups and as of very late, the computer would just turn off.. I was thinking overheating..

So.. Kinda scared to do it.. But with no other alternatives.. I opened the machine all the way to the motherboard level.. And lo behold what did I find from the heatsink assembly to the CPU.. Dust balls that had completely clogged the fan.. It just would not turn.. First I had to remove the worst of them with tweezers.. And then I blew on to it for a while until I felt it was in satisfactory shape.. Re assembled the machine.. I found assembly instructions from :

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/m...reg_R1002_USEN

And the machine is working great again.. No lock ups on counter strike source or when I am making music..

It is a very tricky operation to do.. You have to keep tab of the screws and connecting and unconnecting small cables might be pretty hard if you are not accustomed to doing it.. But if your computer was like mine.. Dying everytime the processor fan should have been kicking but could not.. You can do it to save your computer..

Btw.. Randomness.. Thank you for the great job you have done here.. If only the ATI software engineers were as helpful as you have been.

Update::

I found out something very interesting. A lot of people using the catalyst drivers noticed a considerable loss in performance from upgrading to .NET 2.0. After uninstalling all the .NET and catalyst drivers and then installing .NET 1.11 and the 5.13b set, I noticed a boost in performance.

Hello:

That may be related to the ".Net Optimization" Service found with a .NET 2.0 installation, however it is unlikely it is "directly" related. The Drivers don't depend on .NET, only the ATi CCC.

Take care.

Hello,

I'm using Windows Vista RC1 over my notebook HP Compaq NX9005 and I'm having Code 12 error with my ATI IGP 320m. I've tryed to solve it installing the newer ATI Catalistic driver, but I still have the problem. The problem is listed below:
Input/Output Range 03B0 - 03BB used by:
PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge
Input/Output Range 03C0 - 03DF used by:
PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge
Memory Range 000A0000 - 000BFFFF used by:
PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge

A solution that I found and that work is disable the PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge, but doing this I can't run any games and windows still didn't recognises it. Wha do you suggest me to do.

Really thanks.

PS.: Sorry of my poor English, there is a lot of time that I didn't write anything in English

Greetings to everyone and be proud for your excellent work, which help people like me (owning igp345m)

I would just like a short answer about which is currently the latest recommended driver for this chipset. Here is my situation:

1.) After clean uninstall I downloaded new Catalyst 6.9 from ATI homepage, and installed it with help of Patje Mod tool. But there I have the problem, cus some game (COD1) wouldnt work and it gives me a warning that it "can't load openGL".

2.)I downloaded and installed SciTechs GL Direct. That solved the issue about openGL, but new warning is now that "video card appears to be missing one or more features, I should install newest drivers...". Well, I have newest drivers, haven't I?

3.)Then the problem is obvious at Dxdiag: It doesnt show my Approx. Total memory (it should be 128, but it says n/a), DDI version is unknown, I can't enable any of DirectX features, it is noted "Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer." I can test DirectDraw, but can't test Direct3D (I know I could before). Well, I have the newest drivers, right?

4.) Then I downloaded newest omega driver for ATI. Again I uninstalled drivers, reboot, used DClean, reboot, install omega driver (Catalyst 6.7) with everything, reboot. But after that windows wouldnt boot. It comes to Winxp logo, then the blue screen and reset. I got to safe mode, uninstalled omega drivers, again installed that ATI Catalyst 6,9 modded driver (and I still have that issues at point 3, SciTech directGL warning "No Direct3D driver/hardware was detected. SciTech GLDirect requires a Direct3D driver for hardware acceleration. Please update your Windows display driver or your graphics hardware for best performance." ) Which is that newest display driver??

Now I know I was stupid to update my graphic card driver, but I can't remember which one was previous version of drivers. Please just tell me what to download and install so everything will work as it must, with direct3D functionality, hardware accelerating, openGL and so on. Should it be Catalyst 6.2? Radeon Omega 6.2? Any other suggestion?

I know it is a long post to read, but I just need a short answer what to do from you guys. Thanks!

My comp:
HP nx9010, Intel 4 266gHz
512 + 256 MB RAM, in bios set 128MB for video
ATI MOBILITY IGP 345M
Bios: PheonixBios 4.0 release 6.0
DirectX 9.0c
WinXP Pro, all newest updates

arrow Mildly repeated information . . .

Hello bkovacic:

1) Catalyst 6.6 and newer will not support any Radeon GPU older than the Radeon 9500 series. It is recommended you use version 6.5 or older. You could try the 6.4 drivers that i have posted previously in this thread.

2) Patje's Mod tool has some issues when modding the IGP 3xxM drivers, which lead to OpenGL driver load errors. Please reference further back in this thread for more information.

The OpenGL issues are not present in the Catalyst 6.4 i posted, or the Catalyst 5.13b (from station-drivers) also referenced in this thread.

Hello lguiga:

In Vista:

Disable "UAP" (User Access Protection).
Start --> Control Panel --> User Accounts.
Uncheck "User Access Protection" and restart computer

Next, Update your nx9005 BIOS to KA.M1.60
You can get Update Here:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/fi...reg_R1002_USEN

For more information, goto read the posts on PAGE 14:
The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there

BIOS update is done under your own risk. Follow instructions carefully.

Good luck, and take care.

Thanks

Thank you very much Randomness, you've been super helpful once again!

I know you wrote about those drivers, I read most of this tread. But I was just wondering, if newest drivers (6.9) would support again that chipset.
I downloaded and installed Omega drivers Cat 6.4, and now it works like a charm again! No problems, no errors, nada! Many thanks again for your quick help!

Keep on the good work!

But that's normal, isn't it? The same conflicts arise with your modded GARP drivers.

Thanks for your ongoing help, BTW! You're a legend.

Default Post Code 12 in Vista with eMachines M53xx and IGP 320M

Hello speedwaystar,

At this point, i am running out of ideas . . .

However:

Technically speaking, you should have the Radeon IGP 320M sharing the following resources with the AGP Bus (ATi GART)
(which shows up as "PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge" when no driver for it is present.)

I/O Port 0x000003C0-0x000003DF ATI RADEON IGP 320/320M Accelerated Graphics Port
I/O Port 0x000003C0-0x000003DF RADEON IGP 320M

I/O Port 0x00009000-0x00009FFF ATI RADEON IGP 320/320M Accelerated Graphics Port
I/O Port 0x00009000-0x00009FFF RADEON IGP 320M

Memory Address 0xD0100000-0xD01FFFFF ATI RADEON IGP 320/320M Accelerated Graphics Port
Memory Address 0xD0100000-0xD01FFFFF RADEON IGP 320M

Memory Address 0xE0000000-0xEFFFFFFF ATI RADEON IGP 320/320M Accelerated Graphics Port
Memory Address 0xE0000000-0xEFFFFFFF RADEON IGP 320M

Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF PCI bus
Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF PCI bus
Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF ATI RADEON IGP 320/320M Accelerated Graphics Port
Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF RADEON IGP 320M

I/O Port 0x000003B0-0x000003BB ATI RADEON IGP 320/320M Accelerated Graphics Port
I/O Port 0x000003B0-0x000003BB RADEON IGP 320M

What seems to be happening with your system is the AGP Bus is not getting all the resources it needs to bring the Radeon IGP 320M completely online. The AGP Bus should be sharing the same resources as the IGP 320M (most of them at least).

All i could suggest is manually installing the GART driver in the driver package is posted earlier, and restarting your computer. Check the hardware resource sharing again, and see if you have more resources being shared between the Radeon IGP 320M and its AGP Bus.

If that doesn't solve the problem, I would recommend sending a feedback report to microsoft, and hopefully a fix will be made in the next build.

You could try one more thing, but it can get messy, as i stated earlier. It involves changing your ACPI driver to a "standard PC" driver, which should allow you to manually set the resources (like one could do in Windows 98) for the device. However, all the other ACPI configured devices in your system can become unhappy, which means you'll have to also manually configure them as well if Plug and Play doesn't find its own resource solution.

IF THIS DOESN"T WORK, YOU WILL NEED TO CLEAN RE-INSTALL VISTA AGAIN. Playing with ACPI drivers almost always leads to this if it turns bad.... Although you may be able to use System Restore to help clean up the mess without a reload.

To change the ACPI driver (effectively disabling it) goto Device Manager, expand the "Computer" section, right click on the ACPI entry, and click update driver.
The entry generally will look like "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface PC" or "UniProcessor ACPI PC" or something of the similar.
NOTE: If you see "Standard PC", than ACPI is already disabled, and may explain why Vista is not configuring the Radeon's resources properly.

In any case, after clicking update driver, click on the Advanced option "Install from Location", followed by "don't search, i will choose /...Pick from a List", Choose the "Standard PC" entry to disable the ACPI and allow manual resource managment, or if Standard PC is already in use, select the 'ACPI PC' option.

Again, this is messy, and windows doesn't like when this driver is altered, and you may end up reloading Vista again if it doesn't work.

Like i said earlier, the best i could suggest at this time is send a detailed report to microsoft through Vista's included feedback tool, and hopefully a fix will be available in the next build.

Good luck, and take care.

Hello there, I have the model ze5610CA with the 345IGP ATI card.
I managed to make it work with the modder and the latest normal catalyst
drivers, works great with games like guild wars etc, but I'm having trouble
with a game called "The Guild II".
I tried the OmegaDrivers, they simply cause a bluescreen on bootup, tried
the other available set of drivers on DH "zer0"... they seem to work but
no game at all will initialize 3d, dxdiag also fails to use the 3d interfaces of
DirectX 8 and above, only Dx 7 works.
So now I'm trying the last directions I found above, updating the GART
and using the 5.13b drivers...
However, any other suggestions for my case? (345IGP)
I'll let you know how the tests go.

Greetings
Magdalena: welcome to the club. I had the same problem and wrote the #219, and Randomness helped me in #220 in this thread.
In short: you can not install cat 6.9, your options for your video card are: Ati Cat 6.4 or lower, Omega driver Cat 6.4 or lower. Randomness suggested Cat 5.13b and 5.9 for best performance. Also he provided instructions step-by-step how to handle driver upgrading.

Randomness: After clean uninstall of drivers I updated RS250M AGP from HP homepage, then installed Cat 5.13 from that station-drivers homepage. I checked OGL status in Everest and it says version 1.1.0. That's why I still have OGL issue in CoD. And why is that so? Can you suggest me how it would be best to upgrade OGL drivers without uninstalling graphic drivers again and try luck with a bit newer?

Thank you for your support!

Hello bkovacic:

I would strongly suggest using OpenGL Extensions Viewer tool to help you diagnose your problem. If your game is reporting OpenGL 1.1, it sounds like its trying to use the built in XP GDI interface....which is horribly slow compared to the ATi OpenGL rendering driver module.

http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/

I have used this tool in the past to help diagnose my OpenGL driver issues. the best suggestion i have at the moment is to go back in this thread and find the post regarding the "OpenGL" registry key. OR....open up the INF from my modded Catalyst 6.4 drivers and go through its information relating to OpenGL.

Sorry i can't be more specific at this time. My system suffered from a rather unpleasant electrical storm, and only now am i getting things back up and running. The primary XP partition needed to be reformatted, and i have reloaded all of my ATi Catalyst INF experiments.
Hopefully the newly aquire UPS will provide better protection.

Good luck, and take care.

Hello
If i have read this thread correctly it would seem that you are able to allocate ram to the graphics card? from 32 > 128?

I have 1gig ram and was wondering if you could guide me in going from 32 > 128 on my Radeon IGP 340m

If its any help i have:
optima centoris g series
Mobil intel Celeron CPU 2.50ghz
2.49
992mb of ram.

Thankyou.

well i also have been reading this thread, but i am kind of confused as to which drivers is reccomended for my card... i have an eMachines notebook, model M2352 with the 320m vid card, and i have been using ATI's official catalyst 4.4 drivers for a long time. im kind of tired of the bad graphics, and am wondering what other driver to install. currently im checkin out omegas 4.5 - 4.12 drivers. i also get the video playback problem when i install newer drivers. im lookin for sumthin where i wont have to disable overlays, cuz i watch movies frequently and with the overlays disabled in media players the movies play badly (stuttering, skipping, screen tearing). if i play around with the VMR settings in media player classic i can get a good image playback, but there is screen tearing... if there was only a way to get rid of this screen tearing i would be a very happy camper! so basically i need a driver that still lets me watch videos normally, but gives me better graphics than the ones i have now (cuz they old as hell). probably i wont be able get really good graphics, but any tiny improvement will work for me by the way KUDOS Randomness for providing so much info about the 320m! i appreciate ur hard work and dedication but if i cant get any better drivers i guess its time to buy another pc xD gave up on looking for driver updates coupla years ago... -Niko

Hello Karma326:

The memory allocation for the Radeon IGP 320M is located in your system's BIOS configuration under Video "UMA"

You can access your system BIOS by pressing the del, F1, or F2 key when you computer is first turned on, usually at the Manufacturer's logo.

Keep in mind, some manufacturers will hide this setting, or it may note be available until you update to the newest BIOS available for your system.

Hello chiefkawasaki:

You can generally use upto Catalyst 4.10 without comprimizing DVD Playback (using the overlay renderer). However, some systems can run into problems with this version if there manufacturer uses an older video BIOS for the Radeon IGP. The Video BIOS is can be updated usually by updating your system BIOS in most cases.

If you are trying to get VMR playback with newer Catalyst drivers, such as the mentioned Mobility Catalyst 5.13b or my modded drivers based on Catalyst 6.4, you are going to need to experiment with different DVD software decoders.

I have had success using Sonic CinePlayer DVD Decoder Plugin for WMP10, by setting it to "Prefer VMR" and to also use "Hardware Acceleration"
You will also need to change the settings in WMP10's Advanced section for Video, and enable the use of the "Use High Quality Mode", and uncheck the "Use Overlays" under the DVD section.
You can find this options in WMP10 under Tools--Options--> Preformance --> "Advanced" Button in the "Video Acceleration" section

This setup uses more CPU power, but tearing is less frequent, or completely eliminated when compared to using a DX7 / DX9 Renderless option in media player classic.

Since ATi stopped support for older GPUs in their Catalyst 6.6 and above versions, i have stopped my research into getting the Radeon IGP 320M working with newer Drivers. I have stopped also in part because DVD playback works fine in Windows Vista using the Catalyst 6.4 drivers (and i suspect Catalyst 6.5 would work well too), which effectively solved the original problem of this thread.

I am looking on getting a desktop for gaming, instead of trying to push my IGP 320M any further, but i am probably going to wait until Vista ships with new PCs. And at least with a desktop, i will be free to upgrade the graphics card to my choosing.

Good luck, and take care.

I agree with you on getting a new desktop instead..I first owned two laptops and will only buy a new laptop that is entirely upgradeable..and will never have this problem ever again...

Smilie The ATI 345m Fix that Worked for Me

Hi everyone - My sympathies for your current hardware/software issues. I too have lived the nightmare of trying to find those certain magical drivers that would solve all the issues with the ATI Radeon 345m in my laptop (Sony Vaio PCG-K25, Windows XP).

Even after doing a complete format and restore (more than once), and using the original drivers that came with my laptop, graphics were displaying with missing areas/gaps/gashes and sometimes weird video patterns. In addition, the drivers were totally non-responsive to gamma adjustments.

DirectX didn't help either, nor Windows updates, etc. So, I then tried many versions of many drivers, (including actual ATI drivers force-installed using Patje's Modtool and alternative drivers like Omega and zeroPoint) but was still having problems - some drivers would correct some issues, while not correcting others.

With some versions I tried, the standard graphics issue would be fixed and I could adjust gamma, but 3D graphics would be extremely jagged (due to Direct3d being unavailable for some reason) and/or gamma adjustments would be reset when I would exit 3D mode.

FINALLY and unbelievably, I found an oasis in the desert of ATI driver dispair, a set of drivers that corrected ALL of the issues! And it was (que the fanfare): version 2.6.25a of the Omega drivers! The trick was finding the exact version that solved all the issues I was having and luckily, there was one. It just took having to download and install all the versions, up to the latest one that worked (glad I have broadband)!

So, hopefully if you're having this or a similar problem this will help, because I'm all too familiar with the frustration. Good luck!

Hello:

I will look into those Omega Drivers when i get some time. However they are passed on Catalyst 5.4, and in my opinion, would probably suffer from the same DVD Overlay rendering problems that we have seen with any Catalyst version newer than 4.10.
Could you please provide information regarding your DVD playback (ie. name of software decoder, what it uses for rendering (overlay versus VMR).

Thank you, have fun, and take care,

DVD Playback

Hi - For DVD playback, I use the default drivers and software that came with my laptop, WinDVD, and it luckily works fine.

As for how it works/what it uses for rendering, I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with this. How could I find out for you?

thanks a lot for the reply Randomness, but yea i decided that it really isnt worth the time and it would be better to just get a new pc for now ill just use catalyst 4.4 cuz it doesnt give me any problems and it may not be fancy but it gets the job done xD

i was wonderin, is it possible there may be a fix or workaround for playin DivX or XviD format .avi movies without overlay? something similar to the dvd decoder trick with DVDs. i currently have the nvidia puredecoder 4. if theres a way to play .avi movies without overlay then i just might give this old donkey one last try (im talkin about my 320m of course)

Hello chiefkawasaki:

i would suggest trying either VLC, or CORE media players to play those files, and i think they play DVDs too. However i am unsure if the playback quality.

VLC Media Player:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

CORE Media Player:
http://www.corecoded.com/

You could also try playing your DivX/XVid files in Windows Media Player, making sure you use the "High Quality mode" in the Video settings
You can access this in WMP by clicking on Tools--> Options --> "Preformance" Tab --> "Advanced..." under Video Acceleration
Uncheck any and all "Use overlays" in the "Advanced..." as well.

Good luck, take care

overclocking the IGP 340m

i have this laptop 2 years ago and i had nightmares during these past few years about the weird video card drivers.. until i came up with the omega driver 2.5.5.1 with catalyst 4.10.. i know its a low version of catalyst but it has an overclocking software.. my question is do u guys know the maximum overclocked core and memory of this thing? cause once i tried it until 1024mhz core and 2000mhz memory but i turned it back quickly cause youll never know whats gonna happen.. a thousand more and... BAM!!

Hello:

The standard IGP 3xxM core speed is 160MHz, and the memory Bus is 133MHz to 266MHz

The maximum Core speed i could acheive without making my system unstable was ~ 213MHz

I would strongly recommend not overclocking the memory, because the same memory Bus the IGP 320/340M uses for itself is also pipelined into the CPU, and can cause significant instability.

Although....in theory you may be able to overclock the memory bus speed upto 333MHz.

Although i did a few experiments elarier in this thread that revealed that overlcocking the IGP 320 / 340 M doesn't really provide a significant improvement because of the limited memory bandwidth it has by its design.

Good luck, and Have fun.
