Hello peugeotmania:
I have finally had some time to catch up on some old posts, and have gone over your research / questions. Your original test method is sound. However the Mobility Modder you are using has been known to incorrectly mod the Catalyst driver for the Radeon IGP 320M and related chips. I would recommend Patje's Mobility Mod 2.2d. But at the moment, i cannot find a copy. The best way to mod the driver would be to manually edit the CX_xxxxx.INF file manually prior to installing. I've posted instructions on how to do this far back in the thread, but if i get more time, I'll re-post more detailed instructions again later. I would suggest you try testing the Catalyst 5.13b drivers from station-drivers, i recently posted. However, i don't think they'll work for DVD playback unless you use VMR (Video Mixing Rendering) in VLC or another VMR compatible DVD playback program such as Media Player Classic, or CinePlayer 2.x The ATi Drivers i recently posted above on the HP FTP Server are newer than the Catalyst 3.10, and should provide you with a bit better performance / compatibility. They are based on Catalyst 4.4. Are you running the newest BIOS for your notebook? Compaq Presario 907 EA BIOS F.0B NOV-2003 SP25829.exe In regards to an older question in one of your older posts, when you tested Catalyst Release Version : 8.082-041130a-019577C-ATI : This is based on ATi Catalyst 4.9 For future reference: You can reference Internal and External Driver versions directly from ATi here. Hope this information is helpful. Best of Luck, and take care. - Randomness Last edited by Randomness; Jan 4, 2009 at 10:39 PM. Reason: This thread has been viewed over 230,000 times.... |

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
Randomness,
Thanks for the info it got me back to where I was after the new hard drive install. Almost where I need to be. After I did what you said I uninstalled Diablo 2 reinstalled it and ran the display test. I is still saying that it can't run. Yet I was playing Battlefield Vietnam with no problems. Go figure ;-( On the dxdiag display tab I have DiractDraw: Not Available but test button is up??? Diract3D: Enabled AGP Texture: Not Available With the notes after both tests have been run: No problems found. DirectDraw test results: All tests were successful. Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8007000e (Out of memory) Direct3D 8 test results: All tests were successful. Direct3D 9 test results: All tests were successful. Before I put the new hard drive (115GB) and memory (256MB) in (from the factory) I had all 3 enabled and no test failure problems. Is this all I am going to get or do you think there is more I can do? Don't get me wrong I am happy with this but as i am sure you well know being a computer guy i want more. If it can't happen it's ok though. Again thanks for all the help that you have provided. |

I need a bit more information before i can post a possible solution for you. Please run MSINFO32.exe: Start-->Run--> msinfo32.exe In the System Summary, what is listed for your "BIOS Version/Date", and what is your "SMBIOS Version" Then expand the Components tree in the left frame, and select Display I need to know what is listed as the "Driver Version", "Installed Drivers", the "INF File", and the "PNP Device ID." - Randomness |

Randomness,
The information that you requested is as follows. All is copy and pasted for accuracy. BIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies Ltd. Hello 2`Tall:
Long story short, based on the information you've provided, The simplest fix would be to reload your system with some instructions at the end of this post. Basically, you have 2 remote-access networking display drivers conflicting with the ati driver, and for some odd reason, your system is using part of the ATi 3D acceleration library, and part of the standard Windows VGA driver. And it would be a very messy situation to fix without reloading. However, if you want to fix it without reloading, i can hopefully conjure up a solution when i get some time this weekend. However, a fresh reload is what i strongly recommend, and i suggest the following: 1) First, above all, get a NEW and trustworthy 1.44MB Floppy diskette, and maybe clean your floppy drive if you haven't used it for a while. With a blank, good floppy disk in your drive, download the NEWEST BIOS for your system from HP directly HERE. Follow the program's instructions to create a BIOS Update diskette, and restart your computer, and let the computer boot from that diskette to update your BIOS. Make sure you have your laptop battery inserted and plugged into the outlet BEFORE doing the update procedure. AND DO NOT LET THE UPDATE PROCESS BE INTERRUPTED You are updating your BIOS at your own risk. When the update is complete, your new BIOS version can be checked using MSINFO32 as you did in the last post. it should now be version KH.F.25 dated for 05-2005 Download the following before re-formatting your computer: ATi GART and ATi Display Driver put these files on a USB stick, or a CD to use later. 2) Now, re-format your computer. Your first restore disc should just be the windows operating system. Just install your operating system. If your restore discs do not let you to just install windows only, continue on with the full restore process. 3) once windows is installed, install the ATI GART driver. next, click START-->RUN--> "rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks" wait for about 3 minutes, and then restart your computer. NOTE: the ATI GART Driver installer is silent (ie, no feedback that its install was completed, hence waiting for 2 or 3 minutes) 4) Install the downloaded ATi Display Driver, and use the Express option, followed by a system restart when prompted. After the restart, run DXDIAG. Under the display tab, You should have DirectDraw, Direct3D and AGP Texture Acceleration all enabled. Do not install any remote networking, or remote desktop software until all three items are enabled in DXDIAG. If you have DirectDraw and Direct3D enabled, but AGP texture Acceleration is disabled, re-run the ATi GART installer again, and wait a little longer, and then restart your computer and check again. Now you may continue reloading your system as-per-usual. If you want to downloaded updated drivers for your notebook for the rest of your hardware, you can get them here. Again, i strongly recommend the BIOS update. There have been many revisions to it since your laptop was shipped. Just be careful not to interrupt the process, and make sure the floppy disk doesn't suffer from any form of corruption. I'd also recommend using a diskette cleaning kit on the drive first, if you haven't used it for a while. If you use your floppy drive regularly, than you shouldn't have any problems. Just make sure the floppy disk is a good one. If you don't feel comfortable doing the BIOS update with the diskette, you can update your bios to a slightly less newer version through windows by downloading HP's BIOS update package here. This package will update your system BIOS while you are in windows, and then restart your computer. The same precautions apply. Plugged in on AC, battery inserted, and do not touch the PC or interrupt the update process. again, you updat eyour bios at your own risk...etc...and so forth. This package will update your BIOS to KH.F.21 dated for 03-2004. Its not the newest BIOS, but certainly newer than the one you currently are using. Hopefully, these instructions will help you bring your graphics processor back to full functionality. Best of luck, take care - Randomness Last edited by Randomness; Jan 6, 2009 at 10:16 PM. |

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
Randomness, first of thanx for all the time and info you've put into these posts. I've read throu many if not almost all of these posts but have yet to run into anything that can help me, but I may of overlooked something or not tried something out youve suggested in here yet, but i thought it might be easier if i didn't just explain something and ask for your ever so wise input on what I could try. I'll post specs on my comp in a sec. But I'm trying to get my video card to play without laggin out on certain games. The one in particular is Halo:Combat Evolved. I've tried many of the mods and catalyst you've suggsested, but I kep getting the directdraw is not enabled, or hardware accelration is not enabled error after installing them. This is really the only game I want to play, but cant find a solution to make it run properly. I'm not picky about resolution the lowest setting is fine by me and i dont need all the fancy textures either. I know i should up the ram but I'm planning on getting a new comp before dumping memory into this. Everything will play fine but it gets laggy on and off, or sometimes it will speed up really fast. Right now I'm clean with no mods, or catalyst installed. Any advice you can giveme to make this baby play smooth will be great. I've got the latest bios for my comp the other day.

A very fast and messy post
Hello again,
I am running short on time, so i apologize if this post isn't thorough or may seemed rushed. Lets begin the crash-course responses: darion3169: HALO Should play normally using the stock drivers you have installed now. However, my best guess, ultimately, your game is suffering from a preformance problem, and not a display driver issue. In fact, it is likely that it is memory related. Try fixing your page file to a single size of 2048MB (max and min), and defrag it with a page file defrag tool from Windows Sysinternals: Documentation, downloads and additional resources ; Set the game to use 30 fps frame rate at 640x480, and set decals to off. also try reducing the sound quality, as this also causes graphics fps bottlenecks. I have personally used Radeon Omega Drivers 2.6.71 (based on Catalyst 5.9) to boost preformance specifically for this game. It works well, but DVD playback goes out the window and other quirks might be noticed. You can find this driver in the Archives at OmegaDrivers.net - Home of the ATI & NVIDIA Omega Drivers. Home peugeotmania: The stock driver i meant for you to try was this one: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp27501-28000/sp27665.exe When i get more time, i'll go over your posts more thoroughly. SpeedDragon: Get a program called Powerstrip, and make a custome resolution monitor file with it. EnTech Taiwan | Utilities | PowerStrip djfou11: catalyst 6.9 will not work with this chipset. You need to try Catalyst 6.5 or older. Which games are you trying to play? Best of luck, have fun and take care - Randomness Last edited by Randomness; Feb 21, 2009 at 04:14 PM. Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
Thnx Randomness. I got the driver u suggested and set the page. But now all of a sudden I'm getting a screen flicker. Best way I can describe it. Its only when I play the halo game. The menu comes up with what looks like numbers in the upper right corner, the big halo ring in the background of the menu is black, and the screen will flicker, or flash red and yellow in continuous bursts. I can dal with the numbers and the halo ring, but the screen flickering how it does makes it hard to play the game and its very annoying. Any advice how to fix that? Gameplay itself for what I can stand of the flickering, is improved.

Re: Halo and Radeon IGP 345M
Hello darion3169:
I will look in to the driver issue. I will try to find the modded 5.9 driver i used for this game. I would still suggest at least increasing the installed ram by 256MB. That way you can get the GPU to use 128MB of texture memory without starving windows. take care, - Randomness |

Hi Randmness...
what are your suggestion in drivers for HP NX9010? Can you help to find Vista and Win 7 comapible drivers? i have a windows with omega drivers 3.8.? for games but there is a line in my screen felt to right- i think this is a refresh issue. The other windows has DHozerpoint 0.65. Thast good for film, even the "left right line is ok" in the screen but isnt good for gaming just filming. the other omega driver would be okay for filming...but this "line" in the scream is making me not happy.. so what are your suggestion for my notebook? XP drivers? Vista? Win7? sorry for poor english ![]() Gábor from Hungary (DHzeropoint is great for vid, but has no opengl drivers) Last edited by tomato33; Feb 21, 2009 at 08:16 AM. |

Hello again,
I have started a skydrive account specifically for this thread. It contains some of the mentioned programs and drivers in this thread. Please do not link directly to my skydrive. Like to the post, or the thread, not to my skydrive. I will terminate this account if it is abused. It can be accessed here: Public - Windows Live darion3169: I modded a Catalyst 5.9 driver for you, and is available as Cat_59.zip on my skydrive. Try cleaning your system with DCPro 1.5 while in windows, restart, boot into safe-mode, and run the DCPro again, and then install the drivers manually as described in the "How2Install.txt" included with the ZIP file. tomato33: Which Omega Driver 3.8.xxx are you using? Are you running the newest BIOS for your system? (KH.F.25) Omega driver 3.8.273 and above is not compatible with your system. Try Omega Driver 3.8.252 or older. Why do you need a modded driver for Windows XP? What game are you trying to play? If you use the stock drivers from HP, do you still have the "left to right" line on your screeen? If you do, i suspect hardware damage. For windows Vista, use the Modded Catalyst 6.4 drivers. They are in my skydrive "Radeon IGP 3xxM.zip" file. I am still investigating Windows 7, however, the Display Driver i made for vista works for it. It is the other hardware that is usually shipped with laptops using these chips that i am having trouble debugging. Best of luck, take care - Randomness |

Re: Drivers are driving me crazy....
Hi There Randomness, you're a great guy.
Wish I'd found this site years ago.......any way I still use a Presario 2541EU laptop, the other half has a 2114EA and a friend has a 2543AP, anyway, many thanks for the pointer to the GART file at HP, never knew that existed. Installed that, then when I updated DX 9.0c I got some added files. So ran DXDIAG and the spinning DX Box was at warp speed ! I'm using Compaq's ATI drivers from update site. However on the 2114EA with IGP 340M the same updates only spin the DX Box at normal speed, any thoughts ? Also I clean these laptop heatsinks out periodically by stripping it down etc, I noticed the 2500's have the CPU heatsink extended onto the ATI chip whereas the 2100's don't, and the single fan in the 2100 against the triple fans in the 2500 range. Is the 340M in the 2114 restriced due to the lack of cooling or is my 2500 racing DX due to the updates..........?? Would modding/changing the drivers in either laptop produce any noticeable improvement in grahics ability speed or should we stick to what we have. Once again many thanks, enjoyed reading all this. |

Re: Drivers are driving me crazy....
Hello:
laptopman: Using the ATi Control Panel Applet, set the OpenGL and DirectX sliders to "Optimal Preformance" to see if that boosts the DirectX diagnostic tests. In any case, the only way to run a more accurate test would be to run an old version of 3dMark (2001) and compare scores. The spinning cube test has never been a good benchmark for preformance. The 2100 series notebooks should be using the back panel of the keyboard as a heatsink for the graphics chips. There usually is a second small fan well hidden near the center of the 2100 series notebook next to the parallel port, but i am not sure if it is present in the entire 2100 family. tomato33: I would suggest the HP drivers for video, and the 6.4 drivers for gaming. I will look into the bug in the 5.9 drivers when i have time. Vista will give you better compatibility for games and video, but other devices don't work properly. I have been working out some of the bugs, and have posted a newer, more stable Conexant Audio driver usually used with this laptop family. i also recommend disabling the onboard ethernet and modem, or try stock XP drivers for these devices, but i still find that they are a bit flakey. Please reference far back in this thread regarding vista. Best of luck, take care - Randomness Last edited by Randomness; Mar 13, 2009 at 05:00 AM. |

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
I was wondering if anyone has tried the modded drivers such as omega, NGO or dhzero, particularly the NGO 6.4 driver from the ATT website:
NGO ATI Optimized Driver v1.6.4 download from Guru3D.com I've been using omega drivers based on 5.12 and it seemed to give me a slight boost compared to 5.13b whql. But it might just be my imagination, and it is hard to say. Also, for those of you wanting video playback, do NOT use VLC player. It is slow to begin with, and without overlay, it will make you cry. I recommend MPC (google: cccp) with no overlay, and I have not experienced slowdown, tearing or any problems at all. |

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
Hello all!
I'd first like to say thank-you to everyone (especially Randomness) for all the hard work. I've been referring to this thread several times over the past year or two and I think I have my Presario 2500 (HP ze5500) about as good as it can get, but I'm still confused about version numbers. Most of the posts here refer to Catalyst versions, but is there any connection to the actual driver version displayed by the Device Manager? My driver version is 6.14.10.6497, but I couldn't tell you what Catalyst version I got it from. I keep coming back here because I've never understood why this 2.4GHz Pentium 4 laptop just seems so slow. Changing to that driver definitely improved performance for just about everything, but I'm still wondering if I can do more. Thanks! -JT |

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
Hello jtdh:
The 6.14.10.xxxx version number is the internal version of the core 2D graphics driver ati2dvag.dll. This is the central component of the catalyst driver that links the other catalyst driver components together (DirectX, OpenGL, Video Acceleration). The version you mentioned belongs to Catalyst 4.12. |

My OS is Windows Xp Home Edition SP3.
My machine is RS18D manufactured by Fujitsu. Its chipset is made up of ATI® RADEON™ IGP 320M and ALi M1535+. I had a lot of tries at installing various version of Catalyst, and discovered the fact below. Catalyst6.6 and its modified version : O.K. Catalyst6.7 and its modified version: Stop errors with blue backs always happened while OS was rebooted after this version was installed. Catalyst6.8 or later, and their modified versions: I had an each look at DirectX diagnosis tools, whose path is as follows: Start-All the programs-Accessories-System tools-System information-Tools-DirectX diagnosis tools-Display-DirectX's function. I always saw an each accelerator of DirectDraw, Direct3D, and AGP texture is unavailable and invalid. I also had an each look at Microsoft(R) System Check Tool for PC Games. I always saw No VRAM available. |

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
Hi there, little confused, the GART file you say is latest from HP is old, I found this one on ATI site and it makes the DX cube spin correctly in dxdiag test ??
I probably am talking out of my, but is this one better. https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206...gart_25203.exe ATI RADEON IGP 340/340M/MOBILITY RADEON 7000 IGP AGP 15/04/2005 5.0.2196.1015 Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher I tried ATI's 6.4 stuff, but it wouldn't install, said it couldn't find driver inf file, also the catalyst software is useless, does nothing for my 2541EU. Seems the best driver and gart gives the best results. Cheers. Last edited by laptopman; Mar 14, 2009 at 04:50 AM. |

This thread is big ....
Hello:
Because i don't have time to repeat myself, i will keep this short: 1) The GART Driver used in my modded driver is based on 5.0.2196.1015. 2) I cannot help fix an install issue if not enough information is given regarding what steps were taken, but feel free to reference far back in this thread for more information regarding implimentation of modded drivers. 3) I'n not sure how one "tested" the Catalyst 6.6 driver, but this chipset will not work properly with Catalyst 6.6 or newer. You may get core driver support in some scenerios, but will probably run into advanced rendering issues somewhere else. In theory 6.5 works, but ATi removed the Mobile and Desktop IGP 3xx chipset from that driver-set, and hence the preference to use a modded driver that is based on 6.4 best of luck, - Randomness Last edited by Randomness; Mar 17, 2009 at 11:46 AM. the link to the ATI GART driver v5.0.2196.1015 does not work. AMD now forbids linking directly to the actual download. Plus that driver will NOT support (aka. not work with) the ATI U1/A3 Accelerated Graphics Port device that uses hardware id number of "PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_700f". Before I found this forum thread, I've been hunting down other ATI drivers (the ones newer than 6.14.10.6436 from HP/Compaq) that will also work with the Radeon IGP 320M chipset on my cousin's HP/Compaq Presario 2108US laptop. Found 8.24.0.0 of the ATI drivers at Microsoft Update Catalog dated 3/17/2006. After downloading v8.24.0.0 of either the ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 or Mobility Radeon X600 SE and viewing the CAB file's contents, there were a bunch of INF files; four of them (c2_31996.inf, c2_31999.inf, cx_31996.inf & cx_31999.inf) DO mention the IGP 320M and IGP 340M chipsets. The ATI 2d driver file bundled from the v8.24.0.0 package was 6.14.10.6606 and worked well on the Presario 2108us notebook computer along with the installed ATI GART AGP Bus driver v5.1.2196.1009 from HP. I won't bother using any "modded" ATI drivers. I prefer the unmodded ones that are digitally signed (aka. WHQL logo'ed) and approved by Microsoft but are also newer than the ones provided by HP/Compaq. Last edited by ep30rpg; Apr 10, 2009 at 11:04 PM. |

Driver on Microsoft Catalog
Hello:
I have tested the "WHQL'd" driver found on Windows Catalog. Please be advised, that although signed, this driver does not provide DVD Overlay or iDCT Video acceleration with the 3xxM series IGPs. It does have OpenGL support, and looks to be the driver set that is included in-box with Windows Vista via XDDM. This isn't the first time a digitally signed "quality tested" driver has shown up on this thread, and yeilded the same compatibility problems with DVD playback. best of luck, thanks for the random info. - Randomness |

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
no problem, Randomness.
here are some other whql logo'ed drivers I found that will also work with the IGP 320m/340m chipsets for Windows 2000 & XP- 9319322.cab (contains ATI display driver 6.14.10.6490 dated 10/19/2004; use c2_18988.inf/cx_18988.inf file or c2_18994.inf/cx_18994.inf file to install driver) 12026482.cab (contains ATI Raedon x800 driver 8.206.0.0 dated 1/10/2006 but should function on Radeon 320m/340m; use c2_30269.inf/cx_30269.inf file or c2_30271.inf/cx_30271.inf file to install driver) ATI Radeon 9500 driver version 8.231.0.0 dated 2/21/2006 [search for this at the Microsoft Update Catalog site] Use c2_31326.inf/cx_31326.inf or c2_31328.inf/cx_31328.inf file to install driver for the IGP 320M/340M video cards. I did test out those ATI drivers from the ATI Catalyst 8.291 package from the Station Drivers page. They were almost crappy on the Radeon 320m and the DirectX Diagnostic tool reported that Direct3D acceleration was not available (and the drivers were "unsigned"). A little unstable on the Presario 2108us laptop, so I reverted back to the 8.24.0.0 drivers I had installed which supported Direct3D acceleration. The hardware ID no. of the Radeon 320m on the HP/Compaq Presario laptop was "PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4336&SUBSYS_0024103C" (device ID 4336) Last edited by ep30rpg; Apr 11, 2009 at 11:15 AM. |

I was really fixing up my cousin's HP/Compaq Presario laptop a few weeks ago; before I installed the updated driver, I noticed in Device Manager that no driver was installed for the Radeon IGP 320m graphics feature. I not only installed the latest signed driver available but also did a disk defrag to improve overall performance since the laptop hard drive was grinding a lot. |

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
I have a question, is use the Radeon IGP 3xxM driver on my Compaq evo n1020v.
I install it following the Howto inside the zip, But after i restart, my screen stays black, i have to boot in safe mode and delete the display driver to get my screen back. is there a solution for this, or do i just have the wrong driver? I have latest BIOS Installed, and i use Vista. Thanx in advance, Koos Last edited by Koos82; May 4, 2009 at 05:22 PM. |
