Hello minicheddar:
I have found that using Windows Vista for this chipset provides the best functionality. It provides proper DVD Overlay playback, and i have also found better compatibility with games. However i have never tested for significant preformance changes. Although i did do an experiment with Doom3, and found it prefromed in Vista (after making the modded 6.4 drivers) better than in XP. Vista provides better functionality because of its new HAL design, and the use of DirectX 9.0L (layer) and DirectX 10. However, if you intend to try vista, i would STRONGLY suggest you update your BIOS. otherwise you will run into driver problems. Updating your BIOS even if you intend to stay with XP is still recommends. In some cases, you will get better preformance, or better functionality, and in some cases, unlock higher memory settings for UMA. Good luck, and take care --Randomness |

Hi all, was wondering if I could get some quick guidance with something.
I'm strongly considering buying a new NEC monitor (20WMGX2) that has a native resolution of 1680x1050 widescreen. I currently have a vaio (pcg-k33p) with a Radeon IGP 345M card. I can't find anywhere with what resolutions the card supports. Right now I'm running Omega drivers version 3.8.221 and the max resolution only goes up to 1280x800. I'm thinking its constrained to these max resolution because it knows my native laptop lcd can't go any higher. If I plug in an external, would I be able to up the resolution through the omega tray tools somehow? I'd really like to get the monitor working natively with my laptop, any help would be appreciated. EDIT: I've borrowed my friends Dell 2005FPW 20" monitor and it actually has the same resolution as the NEC monitor at 1680x1050 widescreen. The Omega tray tools were able to detect it and once I switched the laptop to display ONLY the external LCD, the resolution was perfect. Everything is fine except for a bit of ghosting, which I suspect is because of the VGA connection. Unfortunately my laptop has no DVI connection so I'm unable to test that to see if the ghosting would be eliminated, although i'm quite sure it would. Hello nosyt:
The Radeon IGP 3xx chipsets have maximum resolution capability of 2048x1536 , but as you've discovered, getting attached LCDs to work at high resolutions envolves dancing around the notebook's built in LCD display (or in your case, disabling it entirely) The imaging ghosting is more likely due to the current settings being used by the display drivers, or your video software (TV tuner, media player, dvd player...etc) to handle de-interlacing. Try finding settings in your software, or ATi Catalyst control Panel to use Adaptive, Motion Adaptive, or Vectore Adaptive deinterlacing. And if possible / available, enable any option relating to "Pulldown detection". Good luck, and Take care. - Randomness |

Hi randomness, thanks for the response! (yes, i'm still around- sticking here for a while in case anyone has questions). I'm currently using the Omega Radeon drivers version 3.8.221. Can you point me out in the direction where to find the "pulldown detection" / deinterlacing options? I noticed when I plug this 2005FPW monitor into my desktop, the image is very noticably clearer and sharper than on my laptop. I don't understand why this would happen. I changed the VGA cable to a brand new one and the ghosting has been dramatically reduced. Text is so much sharper when plugged into the desktop than on my laptop, which bugs me. I need a solution. I've been fiddling with the settings for over an hour with no solution yet. What if I tried using a "premium" VGA cable? There are also nothing to interfere with the signal on or around my desk. Connections aren't loose, and i'm using a brand new VGA cable. Image and text are obviously clear and sharp on the actual laptop LCD, so it has to be a setting, or just hardware limitation with the video card not being able to output the sharp image. Any ideas? thanks for your time...appreciate it. Again, if you could point me out to specifically where to look for the settings, i'm all ears. edit: Today I just bought a brand new HP w1907 19" LCD for the girlfriend, and of course I just had to unpack it and play with it myself before giving it to her. I carefully unboxed the package, keeping all of the plastic protectors on the bezel, used the power cable from the 2005fpw monitor and plugged the attached VGA cable and............................ WOW. Perfect. Zero ghosting, perfect crisp text, decent colors (hey, it's a TN panel). My only conclusion from all of this is that either a 20" is too big to display perfectly, or the VGA cable was the problem, or that some monitors work better than others when plugged into this particular video card. I have no idea. All I can hope for is that my NEC 20mgx2 better be as great if not better than this (it's arriving tomorrow!). If not, then my questions above still stand and I will be in full pursuit of visual perfection when my monitor comes in. I'll stick around if anyone has questions.....trying not to hijack the thread. I can't get "overlayed video" to work in 6.4, alas I must return to Compaq's 2002 drivers. I also can't manage to install CCC because it says it can't find any compatible products.
![]() ATI (AMD)'s new site also neglects to provide information about which drivers are compatible with the 320m, I recall in the release notes they previously mentioned that...just like these companies to act as if their old models never existed. |

Hey all, I've posted in a different thread about this matter, but I have a question on my 345m. I have troubles with world of warcraft on just the out of date 2004 drivers, even modded. The newest 7.8 an 7.9 catalysts don't work either, because when I load WoW it tells me right when I click play, that I need to install directx 9.0c or get up to date drivers, and wont load the login screen. I just want to be able to play WoW on my laptop! Can anyone help me?
Much appreciated. |

Sony Viao PCG-FRV37
Hey guys, Ive taken two days to read this fourm and threads, I have to say randomness you pwn. But sadly, Im having performance issues, after reinstalling Gart and the drivers. I also took apart the entire computer and modified the origonal heatsink/fans setup so that it actually touched the Northbridge and cooled it. Most sony laptops have two fans and a decent sized heat sink but the only thing it touches is the CPU itself. I got a 50% performance increase when doing this, but the sony laptops are also limited by a Mobile DT switch. I used to be able to run this computer at a higher performance than it is even after the custom mod, I believe I have some missing drivers for my north/south bridge or something along those lines. My system devices seem to generic. Here is my CPU-Z log ....
In my system Devices tab in device manager it says generic bus, microsoft composite battery ( When I unplug the laptop from the wall, it shuts off just like a desktop), PCI bus, PCI Standard host cpu bridge, extended I/O bus, system board, and some others though they seem correct. I believe a missing driver is to blame. Any help please. ------------------------- CPU-Z version 1.41 ------------------------- Processors Map ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Number of Hello again,
lol!! : The IGP 3xx series chipsets have been discontinued. CCC does not work with these chipsets either, see previous posts for newest verion of Catalyst Control Panel. Overlay video stops working in most IGP 320M and some 34x chips when you use catalyst drivers newer than 4.10 Aenect: Catalyst drivers newer than 6.5 do no work with any old generation ATi GPUs...anything older than a Radeon 9550 will not work with the Catalyst 7.x drives. This includes the IGP 3xx chips. They are based on the Radeon 7xxx series GPU core. For WoW to work well, please reference the older posts. If memory serves, One of the drivers Catalyst 5.10 and 6.4 work best with WoW. However the resent expansion pack for WoW requires addition GPU computing power than the IGP 3xx series can handle. bat214 : Please reference previous posts regarding eMachine notebooks using the IGP 320M in Vista. I think someone posted a workaround by updating the BIOS to the newest version available and setting the UMA shared memory down to 32 MB. Psymosh: The nc8000 uses a slightly newer IGP 350M, and some models have an option Radeon 7500 connected on its AGP 4x extension bus. Fundamentally, they use Catalyst 5.6 to Catalyst 6.4 drivers, and hence the performance increase noticed. alex5370 : Could you please be more specific in regards to the performance issues you are having. From the CPU-Z report, i see you are running the newest BIOS available from Sony, and your system is running 512MB. For starters, I would suggest considering increasing your memory to at least 768 MB if it is you intent to use the IGP 34xM (the RS200M) for gaming. I am unsure as to what drivers you may be missing, because the CPU-Z report doesn't give that information. However, make sure that the GART driver is installed for the "PCI to PCI Bridge" under PCI Devices (VENDOR: 1002 Model:7010). I recommend manually installing this device driver through device manager. Assuming your intent if for gaming, that i suggest going back through the recent posts to download the Catalyst 6.4 drivers (with the GART), and ATi Catalyst Control Panel, setting everything on performance in the ATi Control panel options. Given your current system memory, i wouldn't recommend setting the UMA about 64MB. Ideally, you want 512MB reserved for the operating system and 128 MB reserved for the graphics core, however, with only 512, keep the UMA at 64MB instead of 128MB. You can get better Southbridge drivers for the ALi/ULi 1533 chipset from here: http://www.nvidia.com/page/uli_drivers.html I would recommend taking about the install pack with 7-z (7-Zip), and manually installed the IDE miniport and WDM audio drivers. I don't think you would need to use any of the other bundled drivers. Use the newest version 2.20. Don't worry if your chip model isn't listed, it is similar to the M1535+. Other than that, try tweaking the basics. go to TweakXP.com - Windows XP Tweaks, Tips, Hacks, Visual Styles, Support, and Software and look at the articles under performance. Things have been busy, so i may note be able to reply quickly, but i will try to answer your questions with a week or so. Good luck, and take care to all. - Randomness |

6.4 Drivers Performance
I have noticed that when playing any type of game, it is playable, but I want more FPS out of it, the performance issue Im having is I do not go over 10fps in any 3d application no matter what settings I change in the driver, even if I turn it upto maximum quality 6xAA wit 16x Quality AF it still sits at 10 fps, It never goes under or over the 10 fps mark. I have tested every combo possible to see if changing the driver, or Restarting the computer after chaning driver settings would also make an effect, this method did not prevail, I also tried in game settings to see if it would effect performance and also forced differnt vertex and pixal shader models to see if it would make a difference, this also did not change the fps above or below 10fps. The computer is stuck at 10fps in all 3d applications / settings. I wasnt aware that cpu-z did not have the function. I think Im going to try a fresh format with factory settings and then modify it from there. Because with factory drivers I can achive about 32+ fps dropping into the lower 20's in heavy loading citys, playing WoW btw, but then there is a issue with the ground textures being missing using factory drivers. The gart and 6.4 your provided I tried and downloaded, installed manually of course, same issue nothing above OR below 10 fps. I also used drivercleaner pro. It seems like the graphics card isnt throttling at all. Im using 512mb of ram, with 64mb tword vram. and the framerate does not improve or get worse If I change the color depth and multisampling depth, and the resolution. ITS STUCK AT 10FPS in ANY 3D APPLICATION.
I actually used to be able to play halo on this laptop, and a few other newer games for this poor outdated IGP345, and yes its a 1535+, I tried installing those drivers too, but I could only get the audio driver to install, but for some reason after restart windows refuses to load and I have to use most recent settings. The reported Audio device even after a fresh install of factory settings is a Soundmax Analog device. I researched and found the motherboard plans, seems that sony had disabled the ALi Onboard sound and did a revision for a differnt sound processing chip on the board, although they share resources. I am going to try to uninstall and find a way to disable the soundmax chip. Also I wasnt aware that the IGP345m/1535+ supported SCSI/RAID in a laptop... I think that maybe a problem, I will let you know what I find after I do a fresh factory install. |

Hello again, alex5370:
A fresh reload does sound in order. It sound's like there is corruption with the graphics acceleration subsystems in the windows registry. I've encountered a similar situation before, and its not easy to fix....so i usually get lazy, and just reload the notebook. When Windows and the OEM drivers a re-installed, make sure Write combining and Full acceleration is enabled in the "troubleshoot" tab under advanced settings in the display control panel applet. Also check to make sure that all DirectDraw, AGP, and Direct3D accelerations are listed as "enabled" in DirectX Diagnostic (dxdiag.exe) It is likely that sony added a seperate audio chip to improve quality, and the M1535 is simply a digital controller brdige for the audio system. I wouldn't suggest trying to disable it, as it would be the only chip connected to the output ports to your jacks and speakers. When you reload, use the original notebook graphics drivers, and GART driver. If you need better WoW compatibility, please reference the previous posts on finding and using Catalyst 5.10, or Catalyst 5.13b. It may provide the best preformance for the game, with better performance than the Catalyst 6.4 drivers. I would also suggest only installing the IDE miniport from the ALi/ULi driver packes available from nvidia, and leave the WDM Audio driver alone. According to the chip's specification posted on nVidia's website, there are no SCSI or RAID functions mentioned in its capabilities. The driver package that is available from nvidia is supposed to support a large array of the ULi/ALi ships, not just the M1535+, hence the precence of a RAID driver in the IDE section of the installer package. Take care, good luck - Randomness |

Formated.
I just formated it, and Im working on updates, and Antispyware / virus scan software right now, After I get everything up to date, Im going to start reworking the performance issue. But Im starting to think that theyre might be a deeper issue at hand here. I think something may be fryed or something isnt getting enough power. I checked when I had rebuilt it from the ground up to make sure theyre werent any noticeable problems. The DVD-RW drive No longer functions even after a fresh recovery / format. Its reported as working, its in DMA mode, I tried PIO as well but to no avail, I also found an update for the drives firmware and it will not install, Im guessing the drive is completely corupted. Also the computer will not stay on even with the battery inserted. The laptop will instantly shut off like a desktop if it is not constantly connected to an outlet. The computer is a friends and was serviced by the geeksquad a few months back because the old plug in spot for the power adapter had shattered and even burned two of my friends before it happened. They replaced the battery, the connecter on the laptop itself, and power pack. I think Im just gonna do what I can and stop servicing the POS, its just not worth the time anymore. Im debating on building a shoebox laptop computer from the spare processor, and buying some new memory atleast a gig or two If I can find a nice replacement laptop motherboard for the old parts. I dont need a case or much of anything just a good mainboard with a decent northbridge/southbridge. As far as the wiring for the speakers and keyboard / touchpad, I think I will just scrap them if I do find a new mobile MOBO and use a usb mouse / keyboard, with an analog speaker setup. Oh ya, A nice DVD drive of any kind (rw,R, ect ect) would be nice to go with the board. Ill just rewire the moniter for the new mainboard if I have to.
Thanks randomness ~Alex5370 P.S. I suggest anyone with a PCG-FR or FRV Series of the notebook computer if you have a dual fan combo with a heatsink, open up your laptop and check the design, some of these can be modified so that the heatsink will touch the northbridge as well as your CPU, I got a 15-25% performance boost applying a little bit of thermal paste and removing a small circular peice of the static shield on the heatsink where it hovers over the NB. Just trying to help push these paperweights a little bit more than they should. Of course this is at your own risk, and Im not responsible for damage to your laptop. |

Thermal Sensors
Does the PCG-FRV37 have any thermal sensors, and where are they mapped? I would love to overclock the thing, I also found the modifiers to overclock the processor, its not in the bios its on the board itself, good old tiny switches switches. Anyone with a COMPLETE list of TECHNICAL specs for the IGP345m would be awesome, and what is the switch located on the top left corner of the mainboard closer to the processor, its says Mobile DT. I know some newer motherboard will run some sort of switch like that for less power, less heat, less performance. Not exactly sure. I have alot of unanswered questions lol. Also one last question,
I found the IDE miniport driver and installed it manually, that 7z program for archives is pretty handy, Thanks for the help randomness. But I still have unanswered questions, and the more I dig the more questions I find, Seriously sony needs to have legal action for putting such a "lemon" on the market. What drivers should be installed from the ULi pack from nvidias website when running the 1535+ SB chipset on the PCG-FRV37, I have searched quite a bit to no avail. Also the integrated audio is being reported as software, is this correct? Last edited by alex5370; Sep 28, 2007 at 02:46 PM. Reason: Update |

Hello:
Most computers have thermal sensors built into the CPU itself; some motherboards have additional sensors under, or inside of the CPU ZIF socket. Most manufactures also include one or two sensors on the board to monitor ambient temperature, and temperature of the GPU / Northbridge. Sometimes motherboards include sensors to monitor the voltage regulator temperature. You can access your system's sensor data using programs such as Speed Fan : SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer . However, some OEM manufactures remove access to these sensors in the BIOS APCI code. Mobile DT sounds like it could be Dynamic Throttling, if it is near the CPU. This unlocks the multiplier so the CPU can adjust its frequencies when not in use to reduce power consumption. Disabling this feature would force the CPU to run at full clock speeds that it was designed for. I wouldn't recommend doing this, because most notebook cooling systems cannot handle the heat generated from the CPU running full throttle all the time. In regards to the DVD-RW drive, I would suggest making sure the 44-pin mobile IDE connector is seating correctly. Some manufactures use adapters to connect the drives to the motherboard when the standard 44-pin connector doesn't fit into the design of the notebook's chassis. Make sure this adapter is also seated correctly. I would suggest you consider cleaning said connector / adapter with contact cleaner or rubbing alcohol. If you still can't get the driver to work, it sounds like the driver may not be getting sufficient power. In consideration to the history of the notebook’s power system history, it is possible that the voltage regulators may have been damaged, or are overheating. They are usually close to the AC power connector, or the battery connector on the motherboard. Make sure the connectors are seated properly, and check the solder joints for cracks in the connectors on the motherboard. Most notebooks have these regulates under heat-sinks, depending on the model of regulator used, try apply fresh thermal compound to these devices after cleaning them, and said heat-sink. Question
Hi Randomness,
I have the 320M graphics card with a Athlon XP-M processor. Because i am not able to play games like Fifa 2008 (new games), I searched for drivers. I was stupid enough to install the latest Omega drivers and afterwards found out that none of my movies worked anymore (I watch a lot of movies). So then I found this thread and installed the modded 320M drivers and the GART driver as per your instructions. The games worked then, but most of the movies still didn't work. After a lot of problems and a great deal of swearing at my laptop, I finally managed to reinstall working Catalyst 4.10 drivers with the Catalyst control panel provided in this thread. Now I can watch movies again, but I can't play the games. So i'm back to my initial situation. My question is: Is it possible to be able to play the new games + watch movies? |

Hello:
Sadly, i have yet to figure out a working solution to have the ability for new games to player and still watch movies. If you go back into this threat around pages 5 to 15 -ish, you should find details on a workaround, where you use the newer drivers for games, and then use a porgrams such as media player classic to use VMR (Video Mixing Rendering) Version 7 or 9 to render your movies for proper playback. For what ever reason, using the new drivers with this older chipset removes adequate support to produce "Overlay rendered" images, which is the most favoured method of rendering for DVD and video playback. Basically, all you need to do, is to use the newer drivers, and find a VMR enabled DVD decoder like CinePlayer 2.0 (i have had success with this program), or Windows Media Play Classica (google it, and you will find it). In either case, you need to set them to use VMR instead of overlay. Unfortunately the use of VMR requires more CPU power, because most graphics processors provide hardware acceleration for overlay graphics. Good luck and take care. - Randomness |

Hi Randomness,
Thank you for the proposed workaround, but I think I will leave it like it is now. I'm not that much of a gamer anyway, I just liked to play Fifa 08 once in a while. I'm afraid that even with the older VMR enabled DVD decoders, I will have problems playing my XviD and DivX DVD-Rips. Thanks anyway for the fast reply! Timo |

Hi, Randomness,
First of all, I really appreciate your expertise here on the board, I think ATI should pay you for your excellent jobs here! I need your help! I have an old Compaq Evo N1020V, and I just upgraded the OS from XP to Vista Ultimate. After upgrade, the display originally showed general VGA display with an error code 12. Note that I already updated to the newest BIOS from the HP support site. I downloaded the Modded Catalyst 6.4 drivers (with OpenGL), and installed the driver maually as instructed. For the system device, it originally showed up as the "PCI Bridge" thing exactly as you described in the instruction, so I upgraded it. Then I also upgraded the graphic driver manually. The problem is that when I restarted the computer, the screen went BLACK as soon as the windows started! It scared me to hell! I had to restart the computer under the safe mode in order to read the screen and removed the graphic driver (well, I did not remove the updated driver under the system device tab), then I rebooted the computer to the normal mode, this time the screen worked, but Vista again assigned the general VGA driver to the display adapter. Well, except this time without error code 12. I also downloaded the display driver for N1020v from the HP site (there is not a driver for vista, so I downloaded the one for XP), and I executed the file (it comes as a .exe file), and rebooted the computer, but again, the screen went BLACK! So I had to go back to the safe mode again to remove the display driver that the HP file added (it showed up as the 340M) , and rebooted the computer back to normal mode to let vista use the general VGA driver in order to get the screen to work. But as long as I had the system device upgraded to the Modded Catalyst 6.4 you kindly provided, the error code 12 with the general VGA driver is gone! Now, what is the problem here that I can't upgrade the display driver to the 340M or its kind? Although now I can read the screen without problem (with the Modded Catalyst 6.4 updated driver under system device tab and the general VGA driver assaigned by Vista under the display adapter tab), but I could NOT get the computer to stand-by. A ""powercfg -a" inquiry pointed to the display driver. Please help if you can! |

Hello:
An Error Code 12 in device manager means the device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. In the history of the Radeon 3xxM series chips, this code is comon when using it with Vista, and a BIOS with an outdated ACPI table. Unfortunately, the only way to fix this would be to update the BIOS (supplied by HP). Assuming your using the newest BIOS for your system, F.0B, i am uncertain how to fully correct this problem. I would recommend doing a "fresh" or "clean" install of vista. If a clean install of vista (not an upgrade) works with the IGP3xxM chip, than your problem is simply software related. Please consult the internet in regards to how to use your upgrade disc to install a clean copy of vista. I find it strange that this has happened with an HP notebook. Most of the Code 12 problems are with eMachine notebooks using the Radeon IGP 3xxM chips, because of outdated BIOS code that is incompatible with Vista's new HAL configuration. If the problem doesn't disappear from a fresh copy of vista being installed, the problem most likely be in your system's BIOS code, which means you would have to consult with HP about an update....(good luck with that....) You could try one the following work arounds: 1) Go into your BIOS, (i think your model uses the F10 key at the compaq logo), and find the UMA setting. It may be listed as "Shared Video Memory", or Display buffer, or Frame buffer meory or something similar. Set it to 32 MB, restart your system, and try re-installing the Radeon driver for the display adapter. 2) You could also try down-grading your BIOS, and trying the graphics driver again. I wouldn't recommend doing this, but if your desperate, it *may* work....but it is a long shot. And, of course, you do such things at your own risk. Here is a list of Software Pack and the BIOS version for your system available from the HP website: SP34610 -- F.0B -- 2007-01-24 SP22787 -- F.04A -- 2002-10-22 SP22930 -- F.04A -- 2002-10-22 * SP23734 -- F.08A -- 2003-02-26 * SP24487 -- F.0AA -- 2003-05-23 SP23185 -- F.07A -- 2002-12-19 * SP24486 -- F.0AA -- 2003-05-23 * * comes as a "WinFlash" package to be used in Windows. I will try to look into this problem when i get more time. Best of luck, take care. - Randomness Last edited by Randomness; Oct 24, 2007 at 12:01 AM. Reason: tired....tried to fix most of my typos. |

Hi, Randomness,
No, the error code 12 is gone, I don't know how, but it is not there anymore. I do have the newest BIOS from the HP site. My problem is that I am still using the "general VGA display" driver assigned by Vista. As soon as I manually updated the driver to the one that you provided here (modded Catalyst 6.4 driver) or the one provided by HP (for XP system), the screen blacked out (no display), I had to reboot the computer to safe mode to remove the ATI driver and let the vista use its "general VGA display" driver in order to get the screen display back. Well, with the "general display driver", everything is fine, except 1) I don't understand why the ATI 3**m driver will produce a black screen; and 2) I can't get the computer to stand-by (this function simply grey-out) because of this "geberal VGA display" driver, so I wanted to change it to the ATI driver if possible. Thanks again! |

MCE Help?
Alright, 30 pages on this thread, and I haven't been able to find the answer I'm hoping for. But I'll be damned if I didn't learn about WoW and Vista compatability! LOL
I have a HP Pavilion ze4610us laptop that I want to use as a media center in my living room. I've installed XP MCE 2005 and everything is working fine except being able to watch any kind of video in Media Center. When I start Media Center, I get the error "Your video card or drivers are not compatible with Media Center", but it still starts fine. When trying to watch a DVD or video, I get "Files needed to display video are not installed or are not working correctly...". I even paid $15 for a Media Center compatible DVD codec, but that didn't help. Since you guys have done some extensive work with the 320M chipset, I figure you're my best shot. Here's my full specs: AMD Athalon XP 1.86 GHz 896 MB RAM ATI Radeon IGP 320M (boosted to 128 MB through the BIOS) Driver 6.14.10.6436 XP MCE 2005 completely updated Blah, blah, blah. Thanks so much in advance for the help! Last edited by xtopher-robin; Oct 26, 2007 at 12:14 AM. |

800x480 resolution
Hi,
I'm another newbie reading this forum to try and find out if I can get my IGP 320m to display 800x480 resolution. I am going to be using my Compaq 905AU as a carputer (it is good for nothing else). Anyway after reading all these posts (over 30 pages) I have my laptop running with the 4.1 drivers (thanks to mobility modder). I tried some of the newer Omega drivers but they just caused my laptop to lock-up and shut down (had to restore from ghost image). I would appreciate any help. Thanks Paul |

Hello again,
chirsoffice: Try updating the device driver automatically, and / or run windows update, and check for optional hardware driver updates. Windows Vista should have built in catalyst drivers for the Radeon IGP 3xxM chips, and should have automatically installed them. However, you had said you had "upgraded" your system. I would suggest trying a clean install and see if the clean install prompts vista to use the default Radeon driver for the IGP 320M. It should show up in Device manager as something like Radeon IGP 320M (XDDM Microsoft Corp.) Please consult the internet on how to us an upgrade disc to preform a clean install. xtopher-robin: Sad to say, but the IGP 320M doesn't have the GPU extensions needed for proper media center functionality. At best, all i can suggest is trying to install a Modded Catalyst 4.9 or 4.10 drivers. But as i've already said, the IGP 320M isn't designed to function with media center. This isn't a software problem, this is a hardware problem. Media Center needs full DirectX 9.0 hardware support, and at best, the IGP 320M can hardware support DirectX 7.0 and most of DirectX 8.1. Your current driver 6.14.10.6436 is based on Catalyst 4.4, which is dated before MCE 2005's time. MyPetFly: Try using PowerStrip to make your custom resolution. You can find information about this program here: EnTech Taiwan | Utilities | PowerStrip Otherwise, you would probably need to get Omega Drivers based on Catalyst 4.10 or Older.I would suggest Omega Drivers 2.5.76, these are based on Catalyst 4.9 ; If they crash your system, try updating your BIOS by consulting the HP website. The newest BIOS version is F.0B, available in Software pack SP25829 Best of luck, take care - Randomness |

Hey guys,
Recently I inherited a laptop with a 345M graphics processor, and I've been working my butt off trying to get it to play games decently. It seems like it could feasibly do alright, but it's got an issue with choppiness in most games - it'll run with a good framerate for a few seconds, pause briefly, run normally again, and so on. I tried installing the Omega drivers, but I'm not sure how much it helped; it's hard to tell. Can someone help me get this laptop gaming-ready, or at least as close to gaming-ready as it can be? I realize I'm not going to play WoW or anything with it, but I figure it can at least run the classics like Sacrifice or Dungeon Keeper without this choppiness, and if it could do that it'd be awesome. I've included what seemed to be the relevant parts of my DXDiag report, and I can provide any further information or diagnostics upon request. ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 10/29/2007, 20:45:48 Machine name: LAPTOP Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard System Model: Pavilion ze5500 (DP473U) BIOS: PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0 Processor: Mobile Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.30GHz Memory: 382MB RAM Page File: 239MB used, 779MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode ------------ DxDiag Notes ------------ DirectX Files Tab: No problems found. Hello:
You only have 512MB installed....and your DirectX diagnostics suggest you have 128MB of system RAM set to be used by the graphics chip, leaving only 384 MB for the operating system and game code. I suggest upgrading your system memory to at least 768MB or more. The pauses in the games are more likely caused from too much page file usage. Try adding more memory, and defragmenting your harddrive. Good luck, and take care. - Randomness |

This is a great thread. I'm a bit stuck and am hoping someone can help. I have a Presario 2175US with 1 GB RAM and the BIOS set to 128 MB for video. My problem upon attempting to install Vista (Business) is that I uninstalled the old ATI stuff/drivers and Vista and the ATI installs now think that the built-in video is VGA only and refuse to install.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, MBO1 |
