Cleaning / Installing / Modding Catalyst drivers for Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M

Hello again:

I have uploaded a copy of Patje's Mobility Mod tool version 2.2d which will work on the older Catalyst 4.x driver sets. I have also uploaded a copy of the Catalyst 6.4 driver modified to work with the Radeon IGP 3xxM, which also includes an old (free) copy of DriverCleaner, which should also help with cleaning out the older Catalyst 4.x and 5.x drivers. They should also be able to clean out the Omega drivers (for the most part) to help stabilize driver installations / updates.

The Catalyst 6.4 Bundle also includes an ATi GART driver which you will need to manually install through Device Manager to help correct any Radeon Display driver installation issues. Follow the provided instructions, or reference to ealier posts (around post 300) mregarding how to manually install drivers.

http://files-upload.com/230805/Dhmodtool2.2d.zip.html
http://files-upload.com/230809/RadeonIGP3xxM.zip.html

Dhmodtool2.2d.zip --> Patje's Mod tool version 2.2d
RadeonIGP3xxM.zip --> Modified Catalyst 6.4, DriverCleaner Pro 1.5, ATi GART driver

I recommend the following procedure:

1. Clean out your system using DriverCleaner Pro using the Multiple filter setting, and selecting all the ATI options, restart, do it again.
2. Install a clean copy of your OEM drivers for your notebook. (restart)
3. Manually Update / Install the provided ATi GART through device manager(restart)
4. Use Patje's mod tool to make Catalyst 4.10 compatible with the IGP 3xxM chipsets, and manually "Update" the Display driver through device manager, and then restart.

Good luck, have fun, and take care.

- Randomness

You use these drivers / information / software at your own risk. You must also respect the EULA agreements for all included (modified or otherwise)software from ATi, and Drivercleaner.net

Hello guys once again, I wanted to let anyone in this forum know that WE ARE ELIGIBLE (yes yes yes, even with our 4-5year old laptop) for ATI 's 2 free game offer to all owners of ati video card.
All you have to do is create a steam account, then the program will search your pc and will inform you that you are eligible for free downloading: Half Life 2 : Deathmatch and
Half Life 2: Lost coast.

I dont know how long this offer will last, so you ve better just go right away and check it.
Keep up the good work!

A small question to Randomness, have you figured out any way/driver that would make wow Burning Crusade run any smoother? It seems there are many out there like me who once upgraded their wow to bc keep having serious graphical issues...

Default Post Shaders, preformance, and pushing the limits of IGP3xxM chips.

Hello:

For future reference, the IGP 3xxM don't technically support Shader 1.1 completely, and does not support Shader 2.0 or above.

In Theory, the newer drivers should be able to provide better support for Games insistant on Shader 1.1 support ; If that does not work, try using a program called 3DAnalyzer. you can find a copy here: http://xtreview.com/downloads.php?category=3

It will allow you to emulate the necessary GPU requirements. BUT this means the CPU is responsible for emulating the features, as well as running a game. Which isn't the best idea for preformance...but if the game didn't work well in the first place, it may be a good idea to experiment with.

In regards to making this chipset running faster, The best way i have found to get it running fast would be to reduce the resolution and color depth to 640x480 @ 16 bpp. Set the ATi Control Panel settings in OpenGL and Direct3D to Preformance.

Make sure the BIOS is the newest for the notebook. I recommend setting the chipsets UMA to 128MB if you have at least 768MB or more of installed RAM in the notebook.

A slight improvement in preformance can be gained by overclocking the GPU to 200MHz if the notebook is capable of handling the extra heat. You can overclock the GPU using PowerStrip Utility.

Other than that, i would suggest trying to remove as many running applications as possible before running a game.

You could also try running "Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks" 15 minutes beofre running a game. This will force windows to process the background tasks waiting to be done. More information can be found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system...hmark.mspx#E1E

And of course, having your harddisk on the highest transfer mode (usually Ultra DMA Mode 5 for systems with this chipset), and defragmented regularily will preformance as well.

Good luck, take care, and have fun.

Thank a lot for all the information randomness. I have vaio with a igp 345M. I currently use omega drivers 38252 which works with games i play. Also omega 2625a drivers also work. I don't know if this was discussed earlier but which driver is better to use the catalyst 4.10, 6.4, or the omega drivers?

Also in regard to the idle process thing, can you explain what that does. Microsoft didn't do a good job of explaining it. Thanks for all.

Default Post Random rantings about this odd chipset

Hello again,

I am currently investigating new preformance improvements and possibly a new driver designed for the best preformance in 3D Rendering.

According to multiple sources on the internet, the Radeon IGP 320 and 34x chips do not support Texture&Lighting calculations. In fact, this wasn't in the Radeon core until the 7500 series. Specifically, the cores contained the "CHARISMA ENGINE" which did the necessary TCL calculations.

From the Data sheets i have and the specifications posted on ATi's website, the IGP 3xx chips do not have the CHARISMA ENGINE. Hence, supporting the additional information that i found on the internet.

If this is the case, why then would Halo not detect a lack of T&L support like it did on a system using an Intel 845G graphics controller?

Secondly, 3DMark 2001 declared this chipset supports T&L in hardware, and my OpenGL diagnostics state that is supports OpenGL 1.3 completely, and parts of OpenGL 1.4 and 1.5.

On a more important note:

I have recently discovered a preformance decrease caused by using the included ATi GART driver in the the Catalyst 6.4 package i have posted earlier. Mind you its only a 4% preformance decrease.....but every little bit helps with these older chips.

Please install an ATi GART driver version 5.1.2196.1009 (11 Jun 2004)

You can get a copy from HP:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...reg_R1002_USEN

Or search HP for SP28073 here: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/

With regards to Omega Drivers:

Omega Drivers 38252 --> Based on Catalyst 6.5
Omega Drivers 2625a --> based on Catalyst 5.4
Omega Drivers 2576 or older are based on Catalyst 4.9 or older

Omega Drivers contain many optimizations, however use caution. They are not always compatible with this older chipset. Try to stay away from using any form of ATi's Catalyst Control Center. Do not use Omega drivers newer than 38252, or you will more than likely encounter BSODs.

If you want Overlay playback with Omega Drivers, try using Omega Drivers version 2576. See the driver archive here: http://www.omegadrivers.net/archive.php

With regards to Radeon IGP 3xxM and people how have random success using newer drivers / mods / overlay DVD playback:

I have discovered that some systems (usually IGP 345 or IGP 350, which are for intel systems) are more compatible with the use of DVD playback newer Drivers. It is likely something to do with the VGA BIOS code.

For example, according to windows, my Radeon IGP 320M has a BIOS code strong of:
BK5.0.0 VR001.000.007.005.009.001.001.001 c

You can find this information through Control Panel --> Display --> Settings Tab --> Advanced --> Adapter Tab
Look for "Bios Information"

Well, enough ranting....back to the drawing board...

Take care, have fun, good luck.

Hello:

In regards to the DH Mobility Modder from http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/ :

I am unsure why you would need to use it. The IGP 3xxM chipset does not support the WDDM, and hence must use a XDDM (XP Driver) for vista.

This chipset is also very old....and is not supported in the newer Catalyst 6.6 + driver code.

In theory, the modder should still be able to mod Catalyst 6.5 or older, as long as it is modding the driver for the XDDM driver type. Newer Catalyst 6.6 and above drivers are not compatible with this chipset series.

Sadly....the Radeon IGP 3xx series GPU is classified as discontinued :-(

Hope the info helps. Good luck, take care

I've got an HP Pavilion ze4560us (ze4500 series) laptop I've been working on, and this method worked for me, too.
In BIOS, set Display memory to 32MB and Vista is able to start the device. I was getting "Not enough resources to start device" in the device manager before.

Although the Catalyst Control Center does not work for this device still... But I don't think it's supposed to.

Edit: Also note, specifying a higher amount does NOT work.

Hello:

For those of you looking for a still active download link to the modded Catalyst 6.4 drivers (with OpenGL) for use with XP or Vista, you can get them here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?8k5pmzt1mlg

Again, These drivers do not provide proper overlay playback support in XP, but everything should work fine in Windows Vista, including OpenGL support.

And for future reference:

XP Users....DO NOT USE ATi CCC for this chipset. World of headaches....Try to find a copy of any older ATi Catalyst Control PANEL, and use it instead.

ProdigySim:

Thanks for the tip. I have speculated that lowering the UMA size would also lower the address ranges needed by the driver, and hence work around the Code 12 (et al) problem in vista. Sadly, i haven't been able to figure out how to directly update the necessary code in the BIOS to make the IGP work at higher UMA settings.

In theory, if the BIOS is modular, than the Radeon IGP bios module code be swapped out with a newer one. But OEM BIOS codes seem to be much more difficult to mod.

aerziel:

Catalyst 5.13b was posted much much earlier in this thread from a site called www.station-drivers.com ; It is a french-language website with many pop-ups. I am unsure if they still have the drive ryou are looking for. I would suggest trying to use the posted Catalyst 6.4 driver ; or, if your looking for a driver that is new-ish, and supports DVD overlay playback in Windows XP, find an old copy of Catalyst 4.10 or older.

mortenmarc:

When i say OEM drivers, i am referring to the original graphics drivers that came with your notebook (ie// from the manufacture that made your notebook).

For example, if you have an HP (compaq) notebook, the "OEM driver" is HP's version of the ATi catalyst driver. I suggest initially installing this driver because it better recognises any extra video ports (like S-Video, or VGA), and the LCD's correct resolution.

When you update from an OEM driver, the settings for the S-Video, VGA port, and LCD resolution are kept in the registry, and people generally encounter fewer problems when attaching external video to their notebook computer.

Best of luck to all, and take care.

Hello Nom:

Thank you for the better file hosting, i was getting tired of digging these files out of my archives and loading them onto free file servers.

I found a copy of the ATi Catalyst Control Panel from Catalyst 5.1, it should work with the IGP 3xxM chipsets using Catalyst 6.4. If i find a newer version, i will try to post a temporary link for it.

you can get the copy of Catalyst Control Panel from here:

I have HP nx9010, What would be best drivers for gaming on IGP 345M, and is there something tips to get better fps, i know everything game settings to lowest and resolution lowest + on the ati control panel all things to "performance", but dunnoe about the other settings? Only games that i have been able to play with good fps is Quake 3 and Half-life. And with them i have been able to use 1024x768 resolution with good fps. Most of the games work but the fps is so shitty so its non-playable even with lowest settings. What other games have you noticed playable with this IGP 345M? Other specs of my computer are: 768mb ram -128mb for 345M , 2.6ghz. I'll try to read this topic fully trough when i have time...

CPU upgrade?

Hi!

I've been reading through a lot of the topic, but it's huuuge... I'm sure it's been discussed a 100 times, but I' wondering what's the most powerful CPU I can install in my Presario 2500... I just swapped my 2.6 Celeron for an 533 2.8 P4, and I was shocked about the difference the raised FSB and the more powerful CPU meant... Is there any more in this platform, or did I practically top it out regarding CPUs? (Just have to get another 0.5G RAM...)

BTW is the 1G limitation for sure? Anyone tried it with more RAM?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Again:

Nom:

I found the newest (and sadly the last) version of ATi Catalyst Control Panel from my software Archives.

I have posted on Mediafire here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?emtbbmdvoaz

I have also found a copy of DriverCleaner Pro 1.5 (Free edition) from my archives. It is remarkably useful for cleaning out corrupted drivers.

I have posted on MediaFire here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?8xuyomefyza
Thanks in advance for providing file hosting for these files.

Psymosh:

Strickly for gaming, the best driver i would recommend is the previously mention / posted Catalyst 6.4 i modded for use with these chipsets.

I would suggest increasing your system memory to 1 GB, and setting yourUMA to 128MB (as it is already). This will give your system 896 MB for use for the game code, and 128MB for graphics texture memory. I have found this configuration best for use with most games upto and including DirectX 8.1 and/or OpenGL 1.4 ; I would also suggest reducing your resolution to 800x600 for gaming, and possibly experiment with reducing color depth to 16-bit. You could try overclocking the IGP with PowerStrip, but i have personally never found much improvement in doing this.

Also make sure you do all the classic system optimizers (defragmentation, making sure your harddrive is using fastest UDMA mode, reduce the number of unnecessary services and start-up programs...etc) See TweakXP.com - Windows XP Tweaks, Tips, Hacks, Visual Styles, Support, and Software or TweakVista.com - Tweaks and Tips for Windows Vista™ for more information on that stuff.

ppeterka:

It sounds like you are starting to reach the upper limits of what the IGP 34x northbridge can handle. you may be able to push it to 3.0 GHz, but their is no guarantee, and the 200 MHz increase wouldn't be noticable. I would suggest increasing memory to to at least 1GB. In theory, you should be able to push it to 1280MB (1xGB SODIMM, and 1x256MB SODIMM). However as of yet, i have not been able to verify what the limits are that the motherboard can handle.

Good luck, have fun, and take care.

Hey Randomness,

I was wondering if you could offer your help or your insight with the situation on my Radeon IGP 345M on my HP Pavilion ze5400 laptop (CTO, custom ordered). I came across this wonderful site from Googling my problem, and it seems like you are the authority when it comes to these graphics cards.

It has a Intel P4, 2.4 GHz, 1 GB of ram. I am running Windows Server 2003, which is by far superior to XP Pro, and I have converted it to a workstation configuration as much as possible using TweakNT and a program called Windows Server 2003 - XP Conversion Pack (link: Windows X’s Shrine Windows Server 2003 - XP Conversion Pack). I am thinking me running Server 2k3 is the root of this problem, but was wondering if you could offer your help, because I really want to run Server 2k3 as opposed to XP Pro.

My general problem has been some lag in my everyday use. And I am pretty sure its due to my graphics. With the OEM Drivers from HP (link here: ATI Video Driver and Control Panel*HP Pavilion ze5400 CTO Notebook PC), everything displays OK. But, I have noticed lag when I minimize/maximize/restore windows, play embedded video content on YouTube and Flash-based video players, and have gotten some BSOD's (which I am pretty sure are linked to the graphics drivers not being supposed to be used with Server 2003. I think I could live with this since I like 2k3, but this graphics performance is not fun.

I scrolled back a page to find your instructions to install the best drivers. I downloaded your modified drivers and also the GART driver from HP. I used DriveCleaner to clean out the previous stuff, then started from square 1 and installed the OEM, GART, and modified drivers, following your instructions closely with reboots after each installation. (I'm not computer illiterate so I understood what was going on). After installing your modified drivers, upon reboot, the drivers did not work. My screen was at a low resolution in 8-bit colors (? basically no colors, looked psychadelic). Upon checking the graphics card properties, it pretty much said that the drivers cannot be used since they were meant to be used with an earlier operating system.

Am I out of luck, or is there anything you can offer me to get good performance with the IGP 345M for Windows Server 2003. I know Windows Server 2003 and XP Pro are similar, but Windows Server 2003 is better overall performance wise. However, I also understand that there are differences and those differences mainly lie with drivers/program compatibility. I know that my OS thinks it's XP Pro (the internal OS identifier has been set to XP Pro through these programs) due to the conversions I have done, but I am guessing the 2003 kernel/core files are incompatible with the drivers you offered and the OEM drivers aren't running at full speed.

Thanks in advance, in the meantime I may try some Omega drivers to see if I can fix the problem. Time to read some more in this thread. Whatever you can offer me (even if it's bad news), I will be very grateful. I can definitely live with XP Pro as an OS.

Hey Randomness

Here's an update...

I got your drivers to work, but this is what I had to do. I found out the problem seems to be installing the OEM drivers first. I first installed the OEM drivers again, then GART, then Omega Drivers (all with proper cleaning, reboots, etc.) and got the same error.

I decided to start from scratch again, and after cleaning, installed GART first, reboot, then manually installed your drivers. Voila... it works... the performance so far seems like the original OEM drivers I had installed, but I will keep you posted.

Hello, I plan to try the 6.4 solution in a bid to increase performance -

There is only one little problem. My bios on my Compaq Presario 905US only allows me to set the shared video memory to 64MB. I am not aware of any update for this bios or way to change the memory outside of the bios. Very frustrating.

Is there any way I can get around this limitation? I have plenty of memory...

My Hanton laptop has the same BIOS limitation.

Once I had the 6.4 driver up and running though, I found an option within the Catalyst Control Centre to choose the video RAM ... and the slider went right upto 128MB. It works just fine in 128MB mode - the drivers seem to be able to bypass the BIOS setting (which is still sat at 64MB).

Hi everyone,

Had to join DH after stumbling upon this thread. I've got a 4 year old HP Pavilion 4404 with the troublesome IGP 340m, and like many people I'm seeking to boost performance (on World of Warcraft).

I've loaded the modded 6.4 drivers and put all the graphic settings to performance, changed the bios UDMA to 128 (I've got 1gig of RAM) and am now exploring other software tweaks.

I think I noticed someone on this thread found a substantial improvement in performance by changing to Vista (did I imagine this?). Quite a surprise to say the least. Could MS' driver interface actually improve things for me?

EDIT: I haven't changed my BIOS since I got the laptop. Is that likely to impact on performance?

NC4010 with IGP350M

Any experience with the HP Business Notebook NC4010 on Vista? I am not after impressive gaming performance, just a decent support for standby/hibernate, high resolutions, external VGA and the docking station.

Initially after installation of Vista, the default VGA drivers are used. No standby option. So I manually selected the IGP340 drivers, this significantly improved things. I can use my 1920x1200 panel via VGA and the standby option is available now. My issues however:
 • hot docking does not work, it does not swich resolutions and screens remain blank
 • standby actually hardly works
 • having used the laptop in the docking station at very high resolutions, this resolution stays after a reboot outside the docking station. Have to manually change it.
Which drivers to use to improve Vista support?

Okay I have an interesting problem. I hope that it has not already been covered on here. I think I did a thorough search to make sure that it wasn't. I am not particularly computer savvy but I apparently know just enough to get myself into trouble. Here's my story. I just started playing WoW 3 weeks ago and was really enjoying the game. I am using the radeon igp345m video card on my 4 year old laptop so performance was definately minimal. I made due for a while. One night I shut off my laptop and went to bed. The next morning I woke up turned my laptop back on and tried to startup WoW. It would act like it was going to start the game and gave me a black screen. Then it would minimize the game and send me back to the desktop. It had never done this before so I was confused. I decided to see if I could update my drivers. I got on driverheaven and loaded up the catalyst 6.9 and everything went well except that now when I try to play WoW it tells me that its unable to start up 3d acceleration. It asks me to make sure that I have Directx9.0c installed which I do. I am at a loss for what my next step would be. If anyone has encountered this problem before please help me out. All I want is to play some World of Warcraft. ='(

Slowly getting back online. Been down for few weeks

Hello all:

Recent events with my computer hardware have kept me offline, it will take some time for me to try to catch up and address each of your problems. Please be patient.

Chimusan:

If memory serves, the graphics display model isn't two different from Windows XP. And the Modded Catalyst 6.4 driver i posted is designed to work in XP and Vista. Windows Server 2003 isn't very graphically inclined, and you will need to manually enable hardware acceleration to improve preformance.
Please consult this website:
http://www.visualwin.com/DirectX/

You basically need to enable "Full Acceleration" and "Write Combining" when you goto the Advanced Settings in the Display Control Panel. These Acceleration options are under the "Troubleshoot" tab.

To verify that Acceleration is enabled, run the "dxdiag" program, and check for DirectDraw, Direct3D and AGP texture accelerations are all "enabled" in the Display tab.

Good luck, take care.

Hello EdwinF:

Are you running the latest version of your notebook's BIOS? According to HP, the newest is Version F.30 dated 30-August-2006 ;

Are you using the Catalyst 6.4 modded drivers mentioned on this thread? They usually provide the best functionality and preformance in Vista so far. I have considered making a newer modded driver set, but my initial work was lost from my recent harddrive crash.

It is possible your issues are related to other components, such as the ATI GART. But my first impression is that your notebook's BIOS needs updating.

You can get the newest version from here:
HP Compaq nc4010 Notebook PC*-* HPQFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS (68BAS ROM) - Microsoft Windows-Based - HP Business Support Center

Or goto HP United States - Computers, Laptops, Servers, Printers & more and search for SP35699

If you are running the latest BIOS, try the Catalyst 6.4 modded drivers.

Take care, and good luck.

- Randomness.
