Hey there Speedwaystar,
Were you ever able to get your laptop going under Vista properly? I have the m5310 model, and cannot get the drivers to initialize because of resource conflicts. Were you able to solve this problem? Many thanks MoovyGuy |

HOWEVER, I didn't manage to get the AGP GART part installed in Vista - it stopped my laptop from booting ! But I've stuck the graphics driver on without the GART, and it seems to be working OK ? It's worth noting that Vista includes built-in drivers for the 320M/340M/345M - if you add the driver manually, and then choose from the list, you'll find them all in the ATi section. |

A Random update about the IGP 3xxM chips....
Hello:
I am afraid i can't offer much help when it comes down to the ACPI issues with some notebook BIOSes. I don't have the hardware, nor the software resources to safely mod a BIOS. However disabling "USB Legacy Support" and lowering the UMA settings may help. I would also suggest disabling other BIOS features, such as Parallel Port ECP, to see if that may help a little. This post is specifically directed at the Modified Catalyst 6.4 Driver i posted earlier. The old link is no longer valid. I re-uploaded the driver after revising the Device ID codes to improve support for the IGP 34xM and IGP 350M. You can get them from here: http://www.filefactory.com/file/19a38e/ Under the "Download for free with FileFactory Basic" link in the middle of the ads. Again, these drivers are still subject to use under your own risk. These drivers do not fix the issues previously described about DVD Overlay playback in Windows XP. They are intended for Gaming support in Windows XP, or full featured OpenGL support for Windows Vista. There has also been an interesting discover made by guydahollosy in this thread: http://www.driverheaven.net/showthre...499#post995499 Although the actual modd is slightly problematic, it improves VMR playback by completely removing the ATIVVAXX.DLL video acceleration library from the Catalyst driverset. However, this will increase CPU usuage during video playback (30-50% nominal). BUT there is significantly less image tearing( almost none at all), or distortion. Good luck, and take care. - Randomness |

I had no problem getting the GART driver installed, but lowering the shared video memory to 32 meg or even 16 meg didn't help. Unfortunately, I cannot try rasing it above 64 meg as my bios won't allow it. Thanks for the suggestion though ... What I will try next is to disable or turn off anything non essential from within the bios as disabling devices in device manager didn't do anything for me either /... |

Question. Since blizzard doesnt seem to answers questions they dont have answer too... i have a problem with World of Warcraft, where the ground/floor textures are all squares, in direct 3d. Now before patch 2.01 I fixed this by changing it to direct3d from opengl, and setting SET specular "0" SET pixelShaders "0" everything was dandy. Now with patch 2.01 i tried setting these configs but the ground texture is still has blocks, and when i set it in opengl , the game is slow and choppy, slow motion like, but the blocks are gone. Randomness, maybe you could help me or someone else, i believe i have the same computer as you freind that has the sony vaio laptop with the ATI IGP 345M. Maybe your friend has got this to work, someway or somehow. Now i havent tried your catalyst modified driver, but i have it DL'd and ready, i was wondering if this fixes the problem or some other way around this. I just want to know before i do anything drastic.

Nevermind it does! wow. and it fixed every other thing on this notebook, and fullscreen in
WoW NICE! Just one more question , does lowering multisampling to 16/16 from 24 bit help in perfomance |

Hello, and Happy Holidays
I have been a little busy the past few weeks, and haven't been able to keep up with the posts. But to answer your question about WoW: You need at least a modded Catalyst Version of 5.10 or higher. I used the Catalyst 6.4 drivers from Vista because most people reported that this worked best for WoW in Vista, and with some other games (albiet on low settings) such as in Half Life 2. Lowing the colour depth to 16-bit, and other features such as multisampling can increase preformance. You can also use ATi Control Panel to set the drivers to "Preformance" for additional increases in FPS, however, image quality will suffer. I would suggest increasing the Chip's UMA setting in the BIOS to 128 MB if you have at least 768 MB of system RAM install, or more. I have found this has helped these old chips a little more edge. But considering these stubbborn, old Mobile graphics chips (and besides the fact that they are plagued by many driver issues), i am suprized that they can still run some newer games, albiet on lowest settings. But for a mobile graphics platform that is turning 5 years old (ancient in computer terms), it has served me well both in my random Games, and in my engineering CAD programs. Take care, and have fun - Randomness |

if you are having problems with your laptop giving you nice green lines on your startup screen and locking up all the time do this...
1.Take the whole thing apart and reconnect only the most essential parts..in my case I have a compaq 2199US..so it's the motherboard and the adaptor jack and the RAM...and an external keyboard and the strip where the speakers plug into it.. BOOT IT UP.. If you are lucky then the boot will work and no green lines or freeze up upon seeing the HP logo (or whatever logo you have..don't know why I have the HP logo instead of compaq, but I don't know how to change it) If that does not work-get all mad, rant and rave and once you have calmed down do this.. Find the video ATI chip on the motherboard..and PRESS DOWN VERY GENTLY ON IT...(notice that it also heats up...be careful) REBOOT.. Voila..the green lines and the lockups disappear forever...you now have a working desktop... Put the computer back together piece by piece testing it as you go along..(eg.the LCD monitor..CD player IR etc...(wow you can even buy a floppy to put into these things..someone should think up of something else that you can plug into that floppy space on these old computers... Maybe you will be more lucky than I was...once I put the thing together again it stopped working...presently I have it taken apart to the bare minimum and have an external CRT hooked up to it..is it just me or does the LCD screen appear to be faded somewhat??? I have wasted more time taking this thing apart and putting it back together than it is worth...So now some really smart person could design a video card module that all of us could plug into the floppy slot to upgrade our notebooks..I don't know if this is an original idea..but it could be worth a bit of cash...Really all these notebooks need is a video card upgrade and they will work fine for games..So if someone wants to invent a video card upgrade that can be plugged into the floppy slot..contact me...because I want to pursue this idea further..(funding available anyone??) HELLO AMD YOU WILL MAKE MONEY OFF OF A PRODUCT LIKE THIS IF YOU DECIDE TO MANUFACTURE IT...Why did AMD ever stop making the athlon xpm? It is fast as hell in surfing the internet and I like the idea that the fan is only on intermittently...unlike the +3500 where the fan is on constantlly...Ok enough..but you CAN fix those green lines by PRESSING DOWN GENTLY ON THE VIDEO CHIP...it worked for me.... |

I know that this a little off thread topic, but, I want to save people time searching if they were thinking about upgrading the cpu in presario 2500 notebooks. Compaq Presario 2500 notebooks use desktop pentium 4 processors up to 3.06GHz @ 533MHz FSB. I have currently a p4 (SL6PF) @ 2.8GHz and works great.

If you download my package above, you can set your Shared Video Memory (UMA) size in the Catalyst Control Center - you can choose 128MB, even if your BIOS doesn't support it. Works fine on my Digimate machine.

AMD/ATI has actually updated the drivers for all pre-r300 video cards, so there is some hope... You can find them here: http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/x...rer300-xp.html I'll try to mod them and see if I can get video playback working: everytime I try a video (not DVD, avi/mpg/wmv/etc) the player locks up hard. Does anyone know solution for MCE 2005 with HP NX 9010 laptop.I don`t can watch DVD & TV with Windows Media Centar 2005? I cannot view any video in Media Center, be it live tv from my E-Home Wonder TV tuner or a regular video file. I can hear sound, but no video comes through. I have installed the latest version of cyberlink DVD codec and checked compliance and functionality all OK.
I have tried the Registry Keys mod, this only poduces a black screen, functionality appears to all be there, sound works fine, mouse is OK, just no picture...I searched ATI's Customer Support (hah!) database for help, but this problem was not mentioned. No drivers for radeon igp 345m this card were shown either.I instal nue Catalist centar 6.1 with driver for igp 340/345m , but dont work. |

Second Life using IGP 320M
Hi,
I'm currently using Compaq Presario 2126AC with IGP 320M chipset using modded catalyst 6.4. I was just wondering if anyone tried playing Second Life using this chipset?? If so, has anyone found a way to get around it? Many Thanks! Alex |

Hey all,
I know there are plenty of questions going around this thread and I hate to add another one but this place seems to be the most abundant source of information about this particular issue so I'm hoping it'll be the right spot. I'm running a laptop with the video card mentioned here (has 2.6 celeron and 1 gig of Ram). With the release of the Burning Crusade expansion for WoW, I've found myself unable to get it to run above 3-4 FPS. I was able to just barely play before the expansion with everything at it's lowest, but now the FPS has dropped to 3 and it's unplayable. I am wondering if there is anything I can do to crank out a little bit more performance from this machine. I don't particularly care how the game looks, I just want it to run. I dont know if there is an .ini that I can't find that I might be able to drop the specs of WOW even more, but so far I have- Defragged my machine, installed the drivers from http://www.nomgle.com/Catalyst6_4_incCCC_IGP3xxM.zip, changed the Video Card Ram setting in the bios to 128 (max I could find), lowever and unchecked absolutely everything in World of Warcraft (except for the areas marked Check to Increase Performance, which of course I checked), disabled sound completely, set the resolution of my desktop and the game to 800 by 600 and set color depth to 16, and set the multi-sampling option to the lowest it could go in WOW, and changed the setting in the Radeon Control area to High Performance. As you can tell the game looks terrible, but it *still* will not run, which is ridiculous, and I'm running out of ideas. If there is any way of cranking any performance out of the game to at least get it playable I would love to hear it, as I said, I dont care about looks I just want the thing to run ;p. So if there is anything that I can try that isn't in that list I would love to hear it! |

Are you sure its not the hard drive? I cant think of anything else cause wow plays better in worst machines than yours.. I have it installed on an external drive and I can play wow with an average of 15-25 fps including Capital Cities with many ppl. And I even have less memory than use, I have a 256+512, and only a 64 ati video driver (mine cant go any higher). Cant thing of anything else besides the hard disk...

I changed nothing between now and BC and the framerate massively dropped, so Im inferring it has something to do with BC. Originally, my WoW would crash until I disabled my sound card completely, then not only did it not crash but it ran at the FPS that people are claiming they are getting with a machine like that. I definetly have nothing running in the background, and I have the newest drivers that I can find for this sound card, but still have it disabled as enabling it does nothing. I suppose it could be the hard drive, but would loading World of Warcraft on an external hard drive make any difference then the internal hard drive? I must admit my knowledge of how laptops run is somewhat limited. Here are my DXDiag settings (the basic stuff) just in case anyone sees a driver issue or something that might be the cause of this, because as the previous poster mentioned, a computer like this should work. (if having all of this posted is to much text let me know and ill get ride of it, not sure what the rules are on this board ;p)

G'day to all...
Hopefully this is a rather simple question. Randomness kindly helped me out recently with some info regarding what resolution the 320m can achieve on secondary monitors. I now know that my gfx card can output up to QXGA resolution. Thanks again. But... it seems that it only has the option of reaching these resolutions whe the external monitor is setup as an extension rather than as the primary display. The problem is that I want to use an external LCD as my primary monitor whilst my notebook can sit away out of ear-shot (not just have the external setup as a desktop extension/dual-screen). I connected up a higher resolution LCD as the primary monitor (Fn-F5 : toggles primary display between laptop and external) but the Display resolution settings kept jumping back to 1400x1050... it seems like there is a setting that has 'locked' the Primary Display at this resolution. Even though the 320m can provide upto QXGA resolution, and the external screen can indeed handle it... it all stayed stuck @1400x1050. Now, I am loathe to run more background apps to fix this issue (Powerstrip, etc..) as my machine is for mobile audio production and I want all available power for that. So after having seen all kinds ofuseful info in this thread and over the net... it begs the question... Will a driver update/mod allow me to run the 320M at a higher resolution when using an external monitor as the Primary Display? I'm using a Presario 2100 (2106us) with AMD mobile Athlon XP2400+, 896 DDR, Radeon IGP 320M w/ 128mB shared and the Catalyst 4.4 drivers (internal version 6.14.10.6436). Any help is much appreciated. |

Hello:
It is much easier with this chipset to use a dual-head monitor configuration (using both LCD and external) particularly with windows XP. Grnated, the chipset will support upto the desired resolution, it is possible that the "primary" display is limited to the original LCD panel built into the system. Or something along the lines of External Primary resolution = QXGA - max resolution of notebook panel. I have always had sticky issues using more than one monitor with these chipset, especially when it comes to using monitors using bigger reoltuions than the LCD panel. At this point all i can recommend is to disable the notebook's panel in the hardware manager. I would also suggest using Power Strip to make a custom monitor driver for your external monitor, and make sure it is properly installed. This should restore the maximum resolution for your external monitor. And you will not need to continue using power strip in the background afterwards. You could also try referencing the following links for more information: http://www.tweakxp.com/article36759.aspx http://www.microsoft.com/athome/more...omonitors.mspx http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u..._multimon.mspx http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/ms698557.aspx Unfortunately, things have been busy, and my support in these forums has been severly limited. I will try to post more information if i find any. Best of luck, and take care. - Randomness |

Hello:
Vista should have built in drivers based on Catalyst 6.4. However they do not include OpenGL support. The IGP320M and related chipsets do not support the "WDDM" driver model. However Vista will allow the use of XDDM, or XP Display drivers to be used with the chipset. Please reference previous posts in this thread for more information. Take care. Good luck. |

Second Life
Hi,
I'm currently using Compaq Presario 2126AC with IGP 320M chipset using modded catalyst 6.4. I was just wondering if anyone tried playing Second Life using this chipset?? If so, has anyone found a way to get around it? Many Thanks! Alex |

Hello all,
1st, Much thanks to Randomness, the god-like entity! You saved my sanity with your drivers for the igp 320m. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have a HP Pavilion ze4420us laptop and I was going crazy trying to test vista. Now my only problem is trying to get the sound to work. Does anyone have any ideas? I have tried xp drivers, vista beta drivers, and just can't get the sound up and running. I keep getting the message "Reg MFC Application has stopped working". I don't know what to do from here. I can't even find info on what the Reg MFC App is. Thanks for any help and Thanks again for all your work Randomness. Wickedss I found out what the Reg MCF app is and it has nothing to due with my sound. It is for my wireless card. Problem solved Last edited by wickedss; Feb 1, 2007 at 02:57 PM. Hello again Randomness, long time no post. figured id come here with this, seems to be the best resource regarding this chipset.
Anyways, got a Compaq Presario 2500 (2596US) with the Radeon IGP 340m, been using the 6.14 drivers (according to DXDiag) on WinXP and havent been having problems, until a few days ago... WoW running at 10fps, which ive gotten used to. (nowhere near my home desktop's 30+, but not that huge of a problem) all of a sudden im running an instance, and my screen goes all white, and the computer freezes... hard reboot, log back in, whitescreen//freeze, reboot. tonight im flyin around Netherstorm, turn in a quest, and BAM whitescreen... this time i get a BSOD and a reboot. send the report to MS and... http:/support.microsoft.com/?kbid=293078 came back. the 'resolution' cant really be done... cant replace the vid card in a laptop, and unless something's changed since i last looked (kinda just skipped to the last page) the 6.14's were the most recent that actually WORKED with these chipsets. any advice you could give would be greatly appriciated again

Hello:
alexma -- Currently, i have no support information regarding the use of IGP 3xxM and the Second Life game. If the game requires Pixel Shader 2.0 support, or specific DirectX 9.0 Hardware support, than this chipset family will not work with this game. wickedss --- Assuming you using the latest BIOS update from HP, You may be able to get sound using this driver: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...tem=ob-10516-1 Specifically sp23455.exe OR, you could try: http://www.nvidia.com/page/uli_drivers.html Specifically: Integrated220 The southbridge used is the M1535+ chipset. Unpack the install package with 7z or similar utility. (i.e. use 7z to unpack the actual installshield packaged exe file) Install manually the ALi 5451 Audio codec. I have gotten sound to work with the old Conexant AC-Link from HP, through a manual install, but the system will sometimes encounter random lookups and / or shutdown / hibernation issues. SinR --- The BSOD stop error suggests that your system may be suffering from overheating. Or there is corruption in the system BIOS. Try re-flashing it with the latest available from HP. Try cleaning the air vents. If yo feel more adventuous, and doing so under your own risk, take your notebook apart, and clean the heat sink / heat pipe assembly by hand, and replace any damaged thermal pads / thermal grease areas. I ecommend silver-based thermal compounds. I would need more information about your driver. All newer Catalyst (4.0 +) drivers use a 2D driver version starting with 6.14.10.xxxx I will need to know the full version string to suggest better driver support. |

Thanks Randomness. I had gotten the sound to work with a manual install of the Conexant driver but, like you said, I was getting random lockups. I am gonna try the sp23455 and see how that works.
I will let you know how it goes |

I have Vista Ultimate with a Compaq EVO n1020v that has an IGP 340m. I think I have applied the procedure explained here based on the Catalyst 6.4 drivers and the modified inf files provided by Randomness for AGP Gart and IGP 3XXm. Basically I did this: 1) Install Catalyst 6.4 2) In the Device manager replace PCI Brigge for the provided AGP driver 3) In the Device manager Replace the video driver for the IGP 3xx driver After doing this and rebooting the computer just get freeze with a blank screen. What I did wrong? Do I have to install Catalyst 5,13b? Any help will be apreaciated!! Thanks! Diego |
