EEK! Best Driver for my ...Mobility Radeon Igp 320m

greetings!!!

This is my first post so hopefully I'll get some replies

OKay heres the situation....I bought a compaq 2100 model 2190ca....its equiped with an amd processor ...its about 1.79 ghertz....has 256 ram 64 of which is being taken for the radeon igp 320m integrated video card....

The problem is I try to play some games and the graphics are just horrible....

I looked around and found a good 5-6 different driverS I can use but none really seem to help..... I tried even lowering the ram the card take from my original 64 to 16 and 32 very little or almost no difference.....I also tried all those driver with the mod available on this site H mod v3 with little improvements....however when i did use it....it would always say that no devices on my computer exist for those drivers while i used the mod....but then i would update driver from device manager and it worked like that....

What I need is for someone to point me in the right direction as to which are the "best" drivers for this laptop...

Also do you think if I added 512 ram putting the total to 768...then giving my video card the full 64....would this make my graphics any better???

currently im running Counter strike source...I get 70 fps!!! but I get lines in every direction and the colors of some of the items on the maps are completely off....

I also tried running "The Movies" which runs better but for that game I get 3 horizontal lines equally spaced out from each other.

Any Ideas???? All feedback is appreciated

Hi! I also have an igp320m in my HP Compaq notebook. First of all, this graphic card is horrible ! I can't wait to get a new laptop ...That said, here's what I think: I have the same problem with installing modded drivers or omegas - no device found. But if I first installed original drivers (from HP) an then omegas or modded catalysts over, it worked... I don't think this is good because its like you would never use drivercleaner (everyone will tell you this is most important...). But what can you do if this is the (only) way to make it work...And another thing: I also tried all settings, from 16 to 128 (I have the option in bios for 128 also!?!-funny ) and there was little difference...And about more Ram: I bought 512 ram and now I have 768 - no difference with graphics, maybe a little (windows do work faster tho...). So you see why I want a new notebook...

Anyway, I'm using the latest omegas currently and games run the best in comparisson to any other drivers, so I suggest you try them. I hope you make your compaq work better than mine .

Hello:

I too have a Radeon IGP 320M on my Presario 2197ca notebook. (joy)
Anyway, i have done some research / experiments with this stubborn chipset, and i have elaborated about it in this thread:
The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
Anyway, shortly said, the best solution you could try for the moment:
Get a BIOS update from HP(if possible), albiet you may have to search their website a bit to find it. And be careful it is the right one. I take no responsibility if you cook your chip.
This should be the BIOS update you require, but please double check model number:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...tem=ob-31515-1
Set the Shared memory to the highest it can go. After a BIOS update you may even be able to set it to 128MB. As i was able to do with mine. And a 512MB memory upgrade can be helpful, considering how much XP loves to eat memory.
ANYWAY....
1) uninstall and clean out your old drivers from control panel (add/remove), or even use drivercleaner that is found at www.drivercleaner.net ;
2) install the "newest" HP drivers for these laptops;
i believe its version : 8.003.3-040515a-016016C (SP7665)
URL: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...tem=hb-21505-1
3) Download Catalyst 4.10 from the ATI Catalyst Archives, or from fileshack.com
Here is a link to ATI's Archives:
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...e&folderID=293
4) Download the V3 Mobility modder from patje's website if haven't already got this version.
http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/
5) Mod the Catalyst 4.10 drivers and install them. Everything should run smoothly for the install.(Follow the instructions on patje's page)

I have tested these drivers and haven't found any system instabilities as i have with newer Catalyst 5.x or 6.1 drivers. I am still continuing my tinkering with the chipset for now, but am a little sad to say this chipset can only do so much. The original laptop drivers are based on 3.9-4.4 catalyst models, the newest being 4.4.

Catalyst 4.10 should provide some improvements with game glitches. But please also note that this Radeon chipset doesn't support DX3D 9.0 acceleration in its hardware, so newer games such as Doom3 or so forth can run into troubles. But if you have this chip set up with 4.10, and enough shared memory for it it should run most DX3D 8.1 based games rather well.

Good luck, take care

Hello Again:
Just another thought, You should be able to install the Omega Catalyst 4.10 drivers with no trouble, and it may give you more flexibility with settings / tweaks / etc...

Have fun.

Thanks for the thread

Hey, I also got a IGP 320m Radeon Presario2100, well after reading plenty of threads and Randomness's helpful posts, just wanna check if i am on the right track when i say this :

Omega drivers are apparently not good, coz it messes up video playback (does it do it for video lan player btw?)

so the only alternative is modding it using patje qs modding tool. The question is which one is the best catalyst driver for it? according to Randomness it's the old ones ie. the best is Catalyst 4.10 no? (with that catalyst im sure it can play less steep games than doom 3 such as World of Warcraft, sims 2, and civilization 3, or even star wars knights of the old republic?)

((Found a website to download 4.10
http://www.gamershell.com/download_7288.shtml))

so any catalyst more than 4.10 with the modding tool of patje will just be too unstable and so on. Am I kinda rite in saying all this?
Finally, my focus is whether this patje's modded 4.10 with igp 320m (compaq presario2100 is wat i have) is good and stable enough to play the games i listed and other games? (espcecially world of warcraft )

Thanks for reading the post!

Hello:

I would not say that the Omega Drivers are specifically unstable with the Radeon IGP 320M. It is based on the same core driver model from ATI, which seems to be the source of the trouble. Perhaps ATI decided to phase out support for this chipset.

In theory, Omega Catalyst Drivers based on the 4.10 version or older should work with this chipset. You may have better luck with newer versions, but as i have said earlier, this chipset becomes progressively unstable during Accelerated Video Playback / overlay operations with the newer versions.

I haven't had time to isolate the key difference between Catalyst 4.10 and 4.11 that brought about this instability, but i fear it simply may be the limit of the chip's design, or lack of BIOS update.

Catalyst 4.10 should provide some improvements in game playback. Be advised, however, any newer game based strickly on DIrectX 9 may experience some problems, such as poor preformance, or simply refusing to load at all. Or you may have trouble with any other game that has a serious glitch that would have been addressed in the newer Catalyst versions.

Although, if DVD and other video playback isn't an issue (i would suspect some laptop shouldn't run into trouble with newer catalyst versions), i would recommend Catalyst 5.6 or newer. Catalyst 5.6 specifically provides some significant preformance enhancements with most Direct3D based games. If you decide to try newer catalyst modded drivers, whether from Omega, modded, or even DHZeropoint (see downloads on main page) ; make sure the following works:

1) Test DirectX3D and DirectDraw using the dxdiag tool
2) Test DVD playback with your prefered player
at this point, it is usually safe to say the driver is stable, but again you could still run into problems with some games.
3) Check what monitor/LCD panel/display device windows states in the hardare manager. Sometimes when the driver isn't a happy camper, you'll find that your display will be a "Generic Television" ; Also make sure that if you have daul display mode, that it appears as an option in display settings.

If i get enough time, and manage to isolate the problem, i may be able to make a hybrid Catalyst driver using the 4.10 as a template and newer acceleration components for DirectX and OpenGL from ATI's Catalyst 6.1, which "should" allow this chip to run a little better.

In the mean time, good luck, have fun, take care.

Thanks for the reply Randomness. but
Unfortunately for me, and I think for alot of us, that video playback and dvd is an issue! But the thing is, I am sure 4.10 can play most games such as Civ 4 or WoW, well not the heavy games that use directx9 pretty heavily such as F.E.A.R.. im sure with those games u dont want to play a laptop with... But I guess im pretty sure that Catalyst 4.10 will play most games, and encounter no dvd or video playback problems yah?
for the modding tool ill use patje's tool

also wondering if anyone has tried doing this, using modded 4.10 with igp 320m, any problems?

anyways, thanks for the reply randomness, and good luck with the problem!
