Can I squeeze some more out of my Xpress 200M?
Hello all,
I recently purchased a new Toshiba Satellite notebook for use while traveling. This notebook was not purchased to be a portable gaming system by any means, but I was hoping I could squeeze just a tad more out of it. I have loaded the latest Omega drivers, and I am able to play games such as Battlefield 2, but at a serious framerate cost (obviously). The game is playable at the lowest settings, but the framerate is just barely at a point where it is not enjoyable. Most of the locations where I would be "gaming" would have power, so battery life wouldnt be an issue. I have done a bit of tweaking on the game side and system side, but I havent been able to do very much as you would expect. It seems this this notebook has a set memory allocation for the video card at 128MB, and I am unable to change it up or down (I have upgraded the system to 1GB of memory) to take advantage of more allocated memory. Any suggestions to squeeze a bit more out of this dog?

One word- ouch! BF2 struggles on even high-end chips, but I'd imagine it's possible to get an OK framerate on an Xpress 200M. Make sure geometry instancing is enabled, also that vsync is off, also on Ati Tray Tools that comes with Omega drivers right click, go to Direct 3D, first put Catalyst AI to 'High' or 'Advanced', then Enable the Trilinear and Anisotropic Filtering Optimisations.
