help with possible driver problem

HP zd8230us
Pentium 4 3.4ghz
ATI mobile x600 128mb ram
1gig 512x2 ddr2
100gig hd
Conexant AC-97 Audio
Catalyst 5.11 drivers

I have been having this problem intermittently and have seen it posted in other threads but with no solutions. Sometimes when I start up my games such as Call of Duty, COD United Offensive, and Rainbow Six(the original) I get music like the games start but the screen is black and fades(turns) to white. I can't ctrl-alt-delete out or alt-tab out. This doesn't happen all the time sometimes my game starts up alright and I have no problems playing it. Rainbow Six even started up once and when I played the tutorial and exited it to get to the main menu it did the same thing. I would be very grateful to anyone who knows the solution to this. If anymore info is needed, hit me up.

Right click the exe file and enter properties, theng go to tab compatibility and change Run this programa in compatiblity mode: "Windows XP" and check the last option, i can't remember what it says. And that's all, the game works great.
