Please help 256mb Mobility radeon 9700 - no drivers work
Hi, i am at my wits end. I have a ajp(clevo) d870p with the 256mb Mobility radeon 9700 video card. When i first got it, it was fine for playing half life 2, counterstrike, farcry etc. After a while my steam account alerted me that my drivers were out of date, and linked me to the ati driver site. I updated to the latest driver and then after this, when ever i try to play counterstrike, the menu just turns into thousands of yellow and green cubes. Now also vido playback through media player is really jerky, and delayed and is unwatchable. Also when i am surfing the web, if i use my scrollbar to scroll down, i get hundreds of tiny artefacts. This also happens within programs such as photoshop. I have tried reverting my drivers back to the ones that came with the laptop, and this fixes the video playback. But does not fix the errors in counterstrike, half life 2 etc. I have read that i may need to update my bios to fix this? I'm not sure if i just have a duff card that is broken, or is it my drivers.
your help is greatly appreciated
thanks

Welcome to DH.
This site hosts two specific drivers that will work for your card, and a tool that will allow you to install official ATI drivers. First, I would try either the Omega Drivers or the DHZeropoints. They should install fine, and are tweaked for performance and IO increases. You can also install the official ATI Catalysts by using the Mobility Modder. All of these can also be found here
You will also want to downloand and run DriverCleaner after uninstalling your current drivers. It will get rid of all traces of old drivers that cause problems, and has a few other features. Make sure to read the instructions, and run it in safe mode (F8 during system boot). Give these a shot and if there is still a problem, let us know. Good luck.

Hi,
i have tried running through the instructions for drivercleaner
i tried uninstalling my drivers through my control panel, which seemed to be successful, when i tried to restart in safe mode, my machine said that unfortuanely it couldn't, maybe because of a new hardware or software instalation and if i retry it does the same thing, it then recommends me to start from last successful boot.
i have installed the dhzero driver. this has sorted out my video problem, but will not allow my resolution to go past 1400 1050, when i used to have it at 1580 by 1028 (cant remember exactly) for wide screen? also when i move webpages the movement is almost liguid like, instead of smooth.
any ideas? thanks in advance
cheers

Glad your video card problems have been fixed.
That is a strange resolution, my guess is they never put it into the drivers. Best bet would be to post a thread in the support forum, they are great about getting things fixed quickly, and implementing that into the next release. For now, download powerstrip, which is a program that allows for custom resolutions and refresh rates, that should fix your resolution problem. Definetely post something in the DHZeropoints forum though telling them exactly the resolution you would like (might be in your comps manual, or online at the manufacturers site), and they will implement it.
