??? Mobility Radeon 7500

Hiya peeps, about to purchase a Dell Latitude c640 P4-M 1.8Ghz 1Gb Ram off a friend. I want to make sure it's as optimised as possible. The card installed is Mobility Radeon 7500 with 32Mb onboard.

My questions:

What are the best drivers/tools to use? I keep seeing "Omega" & "Catalyst". I've been told that the best thing I can do is unistall all the ATI drivers using "some driver removal software", Install the Omega driver package and thats it.

Is it as simple as that or are there better utilities or anything I should bear in mind? Also, not sure of the bios details(yet), but is it worth a bios flash?

Also can anyone with a similar laptop/ati card tell me what performance/benchmark differences they have got between standard drivers for the card and optimised drivers etc.

The more info I can get the better, so thank you in advance for any help and advice.

Peace...

P.S. All I basically want are the best available drivers for the Mobility 7500(32Mb). I've also read a few things on this forum that new versions of some of the drivers won't support older cards like the 7500 etc.

Thanks again.

Peace...

that really depends.. some users have terrible results with the omega\dna drivers, some have great results. i personally prefer the original drivers

Welcome to DH!

I believe you are talking about DriverCleaner for removing all traces of old drivers. make sure to read the instructions, and run it in safe mode. I believe the catalyst (official ATI) support your card, but you wil need to use ATI Mobility Modder to install. You may also use the Omegas, which are great. All these can be found here. Best bet is to try a few out for yourself (I like the Omega 4.12's, but it all depends on your system and the games you play). As far as performance goes, that is an older card, so I wouldnt expect to run Quake 4 or even HL2 at great rates, but for older games, you may be in good shape. A quick search of the forums will give you a better idea. You can also tell us what games you do play, and people may be able to give you an idea of what to expect. Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies, advice & welcome.

Don't use PC's for games(generally), but I plan on purchasing a few "classics" for a couple of years back, these should run fine(obviously new bits like Q4 etc aren't gonna work), so once i've got the laptop, got everything formatted, intalled & configured i'll let you know how I get on and with what games.

Thanks again.

Peace...
