Used Mobility Modding - Fans now run all the time
I've got a Mobility Radeon 9000, and I decided after some research that getting
the catalyst drivers and using the Mobility Modding tool was the best bet in the way of drivers. After I got everything installed, I tried running Far Cry, which previously wouldn't work worth a damn, and it now runs smoothly. The only problem I have in all this is that now the fans don't want to shut down, even though my laptop isn't running anything taxing.Could this be some weird incompatibility issue with using the desktop drivers on a laptop? |

This may be because of lack of overdrive or mobility specific properties......Find inf driver file(CX_...inf) of your laptops official drivers , there should be the necessary reg keys for enabling those.

Edited: Ok, found out it's the fact that with the desktop drivers there's no powerplay, so I'm going to try to find a way to get the official catalyst mobility drivers onto my mr9000.
Thanks though Last edited by mako_cannon; Oct 18, 2005 at 02:50 PM. |

I also have an M9 in my laptop.
I use the latest Omega drivers and I have Powerplay, although I disabled it. I have a seperate fan controlling utility for my laptop. When I game I usually let the fans max out; I prefer a cool healthy laptop. I play with headphones on anyway... So try Omegas if you want Powerplay. |

Thanks, I'll probably try the Omega drivers as a last resort, I keep seeing horror stories about burnt out MR9000s.

A cool healthy laptop is good but powerplay doesn't avoid that situation....Powerplay causes graphic card to consume enough power no more than necessary....Other way without powerplay card runs with maximum power without any necessity , causing fans run all the time
