Maya 6.5 crashing on load... Mobility Radeon X600 with Omega 5.7, help please...

Hey guys.

I am running a laptop with Mobility Radeon X600 PCI-E with the Omega driver based on the Cat 5.7 build...

It seems to work fine with everything including games and stuff, but I got one problem: Maya fails to load. Halfway through loading (before the interface even comes up), the application would give a fatal error prompt and exit by itself.

It did this when I installed Maya 4.5, and then I tried Maya 6.5 and it still does the same thing (and I know it's not the installation files that are at fault because I use the same ones for my desktop and Maya works fine there...) So I did some research online and found out that you cannot have Triple Buffering enabled for OpenGL, otherwise Maya will crash on load.

So I went to check the OpenGL setting for my laptop and, indeed, Triple Buffering was checked by the Omega drivers by default. So I disabled it and... Maya still crashed on load. Rebooted, same thing...

So just when I was about to run out of ideas, I tried something radical: I disabled OpenGL hardware support entirely. And guess what? Maya worked....

But you can bet I don't want to walk around with a computer that has its OpenGL support disabled, nor do I intend to toggle it on and off whenver I use Maya or whatnot, since I need to reboot everytime I do that...

So, the question is... what are other potential factors to Maya crashing? There really aren't that many settings under OpenGL that I can play around with - at least, nothing looks relevant to Maya crashing on me..

Also, because ATI does not officially provide driver support for the Mobility Radeon X600 series (ATI's own Mobility drivers only support Mobility X700 and X800), I am pretty much forced to use the Omega Drivers (so I don't really know if using the official ATI drivers will fix my problem or not... I only know my Desktop is running the authentic Cat 5.8 from ATI and Maya works fine there...)

Anybody work with Maya that might know some things about this? Thanks in advance...
