Kotor1 Open Gl Probs

KOTOR1 runs like shit every now and then it will works smooth majority of the time it moves at a snails pace. I ran the scan that comes with the game fails on the openGL every thing else is pretty sweet though. I was reading here with a dude with pretty musch the same computer as me was able to have KOTOR working nice and smooth on his http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php?showtopic=30912 Trin. he says something about Patje's ATI mod.

I suppose what i really need to know is can i update my card some how or do something to get this game working properly.
