WMV-HD and MR9700
I just applied the WMV-HD DXVA patch to WMP10, but my video still stutter, and the soundtrack goes out of synch with the video - such as the trailer to Rules of Attraction 1080p..... Wierdly when I try this out with VLC player (which currently doesnt even support DXVA), it works like a charm - so what the heck is wrong with WMP10?

What is your other hardware like? Where are you playing the video from? Hard drive?

Is WMV acceleration checkbox enabled in ATI control panel/CCC? (though in my experience it should make little to no difference).
Do you have all appropriate codecs installed? (shot in the dark).
Have you tried reinstalling WMP10?

I did enable WMV-acceleration, and I am using WMP10. I also did apply the DXVA-acceleration patch from Microsoft onto WMP10....

A lot of laptops have had the problem with stuttering video when using a driver other than provided by the manufacturer - mine below is one of them, but yours is much newer...
You could try using the latest driver (would - officially - need to be Catalyst 5.6 based or better...) from your laptop manufacturer - check video playback - then applying WMV acceleration and the Microsoft patch and check that way. It's involved I know but...

Im running the official Mobility Catalyst 5.7, downloaded and install right from ATI's official site.... I have installed the WMP10 patch before when I had Omega 5.6, but even now with 5.7, still stuttering.... Do I need to reinstall the patch again or something?
BTW I got the patch from here

I have seen issues with WMP popping out here and there, very similar to what you are describing. If VideoLAN plays them right, I would say don't bother making it work with WMP - many have tried, and I do not think there was a good solution found.

This is quite wierd, I have just cleanly uninstall ATI official driver and installed the latest 5.7 Catalysts. I installed it with FastWrite Off, but after install I looked at the settings on ATI Tool and FastWrite was Enabled and WMV-Acceleration was disabled. I played those WMV-HD again - and NO STUTTERING! Wierdly when I turned on WMV-Acceleration on ATI Tool it was lagging in audio and video again. I'll stick with WMV-Acceleration off I guess. But here's the wierd thing - I installed with Fast-Write option Off, but ATI Tool said it was Enabled.... could Fast-Writing be the key and if so should I leave it enabled as it is on my laptop?

Interesting (if it ain't broke - don't fix it???), yes, and try to figure why it works well the way it is. I'm just thinking out loud here. The stuttering video that now works for you has been a bane of a lot of laptop owners for a long time.
