Just posted this over on Rage3D.
You could try editing the file CA_19475.inf (this is in C:\ATI\SUPPORT\wxp64-8-10-050119a-019475e\Driver\XP64A_INF) so that your card is listed as one of the suported ones in the [ATI.Mfg.NTamd64] section. To get the PCI\VEN number for your card open device manager and double click on your display adaptor then click on details. Just copy and paste one of the Radeon 9600 SERIES lines (Most likely the ati2mtag_RV360 line but you'd need to check what you original manufacturers driver used) and change the PCI\VEN number to the one reported by device manager. Setup might not work, but you should be able to install the driver by doing a manual driver update and pointing to the C:\ATI\SUPPORT\wxp64-8-10-050119a-019475e\Driver\XP64A_INF folder.

I can confirm that that proceedure worked (somewhat) for me. I modified the first of the 9600 entry lines (the R360 one). It now reads:

"RADEON 9600 SERIES" = ati2mtag_RV350, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4E50

I followed the "force install" proceedure. It took a couple tries but I finally got it in there and working.

I say "somewhat" because while it works, it does not support the correct LCD resolution of 1280x800. I only seem to get the standard CRT resolutions like 1024x768 and 1280x1024, etc. So things look a bit stretched. I'm wondering if I need to somehow come up with a different Display driver or something to get the correct res.

FYI: I'm running on an eMachines M6809 laptop with a 9600 Mobility 64 MB.

Let me know if you get this worked out. I have the same laptop with the same problem. Installing the driver at the wrong resolution doesn't do much good for me.

You guys are working to hard. The easiest way is go here...

http://www.planetamd64.com/index.php?download=171
and download the already properly modified files. Extract to a folder. Copy and overwrite the original INF files. You still have to do a manual install of the driver. (have disk) Then you are good to go. You have to register to access the download page.

EDIT BY MOD: Fixed the link
EDIT2 BY MOD: Fixed the description of a link for those copy/pasting.
