320m Mobile and Video crashing
Im still stuck in the limbo of video crashes my laptop.
Avi, divx, mpg etc. Itll only play audio. Close the prog, and 1/4 times itll crash.
The other 3/4 itll still be running in my processes list and closing it there will guarantee a crash.
Im trying to search info on this but alot seems old and outdated or doesnt seem to apply.
Some say disable WMV acceleration in my ATI menu but alas that doesnt seem to be there.
Some say disable acceleration in WMP10, which I didnt even have. I put that in and cant seem to see exactly what to disable. I killed em all, no dice.
Another thing I see is something about disabling overlays.
Anyone have any current info on this?
Or just keep toggling between latest omega/ati's and old compaqs.

Drivers, OS, more crash details? Error messages? Is it blue screen crash or just application crash?

I had those issues from my IGP320M. I fixed it by installing the latest drivers from HP/Compaq. I'm not letting my laptop touch the latest Catalysts or Omega's due to video playback issues with these drivers.

It's simply incredible that igp320m card works better (not with videos obviously) with catalyst or omegas but no one at hp/compaq would see that and improve drivers. It's like they don't want to exploit all the potentials of igp320m...It's just absurd...
PS-redsolar, there are no error messages or anything...computer simply freezes...

No Style, i did the same thing; installed hp-compaq drivers (works fine, but I can't play new games)......but doesn't it bother you that your computer could run faster and work better??

IGP 320M isn't the greatest in the first place. I mean drivers can only go so far. I usually play 2-D stuff anyway on the laptop.

I know what you mean... But when you have proof that igp320m can work better (catalyst). This is is what's dazzling me...igp320m is crap anyway in my oppinion in comparison to other cards...I found out too late...btw, do you think it's worthy to buy a new graphic card for notebooks? I am thinking about it , can't make up my mind though...

XP home with latest ati catalyst or omegas.
Like No_Style said, the legit release hp/compaqs work fine with video, but for newer games, at least world of warcraft in particular its horrible.
You end up with quilted textures on the floor. Instead of nice grass fading into a road or dirt floor, everything is in flat green or brown big squares, like looking down on a farm from aerial view. And on top of that, youd figure since its not rendering it fully youd get a slight fps boost, neggies. i get around 7-12fps and it can randomly crash.
The newest ati's I get 12-20 easy, up to 30-40 indoors and it obviously looks alot better with proper textures.

UPDATE!!!
In case anyone cares, I dled latest Winamp, and in preferences/video
uncheck Allow hardware video overylay.
I know have latest omega/atis working so WoW plays fine AND video playback is fine.
Tested in on My Chemical Romance mpg and a halfbaked divx.

Had the exact same problem. Fixed by installing the latest drivers from HP/Compaq. I think they're based on Catalyst 3.4, which isn't that ancient. I also heard that you could turn off WMV9 Acceleration with newer Catalysts and it would work, but I didn't bother trying.
To be honest, I wouldn't be running any current 3D games on that thing anyway.
ATI, please get your head out of your collective asses when it comes to laptop supprt.

Nod, I heard about turning off the WMV9 acceleration but my drivers menus never seem to have an option related to that.

That works for videos but try a DVD. It lags every second.. Plus it seems mobility modded cat 5.3 won't install without you manually installing them..
what good is a laptop that can't play DVD's?

I've got the following error while launching Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault:
Quote:

Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault requires a video card that fully supports DirectX 8.1
|
But I have DirectX 9.0c. Can I resolve this trouble and lounch the game?
And another problem - I can't normally play FarCry with Omega drivers. When I look round - I've got a kind of glitch crystal instead of what I must see.
(sorry for my english )

Having DirectX 9.0c installed does not mean your card supports DX 8.1 fully. I am not sure how good IGP320 supports DX though, maybe someone else will.

The igp 320m supports direct x 7, it says so if you look in the video settigns in the game. I want to play a relatively new game called rome total war, i found that i needed newer drivers and previously i got some omega drivers and it worked, however i wiped my laptop and the new omega drivers do not support the video card anymore. Do you know which omega driver i need to download.

The IGP320M is a DirectX 7 card, and it doesn't have pixel or vertex shaders. That means any game that requires PS or VS will not work - and it can't be fixed with drivers because they are missing in the hardware.
Basically the 320M is pretty out of date for current games.
