Screen resolution question

Hey everyone, got a quick question.
I'm on a laptop right now trying to use a large resolution.

Problem is when I change it, it works but the picture doesn't fit on the screen! I have to 'push' the screen around by moving the mouse towards the edge of the screen.

How do I get the screen to 'fit' the picture?

Here's a dxdiag of the display devices:

Re: Screen resolution question

That happens because the resolution you have chosen is larger than the native resolution of the monitor.
The easiest way to solve it is to set the resolution the native resolution of the monitor.

If you don't do that then you will need to find an option for Scaling in the catalyst control panel. I don't remember how it is on the 6 series of drivers to help you.

Re: Screen resolution question

you need to know the maximum resolution of the panel on your laptop..... thats your native resolution, you cant go higher than that.

judging from the specs you posted from the display devices, you have some kind of TV plugged into your laptop? that generally has a maximum of 640x480 res compared to the 1280x800 that you set it at.....

thats FAR beyond what the TV is capable of....

Re: Screen resolution question

No there isn't a tv connected to my laptop. I don't know why it says that but when I go to display properties it also says I have multiple monitors (total of 2) which I also do not have.

So the only brand/model on the laptop is American Future G600?

Re: Screen resolution question

The x700 now uses legacy drivers, as I found out with my GF's PC. This means that, although seemingly capable, the graphics card doesn't want to display widescreen resolutions. I would assume that although the drivers used the correct resolution with Windows XP, the drivers are slightly different for Vista and are being held back because it's a legacy display driver. I even tried forcing 1680x1050 on her monitor but it wouldn't have it.

Re: Screen resolution question

Thanks for the information. So there is no way to use a higher resolution then?

Re: Screen resolution question

There might be a way using unofficial drivers, using Win7 or you could go back to XP. However, I do not know of a way around it, assuming my diagnosis was correct.
