Mobility Radeon x300 on Dell Inspiron 6000 running Windows 7 RC

I have installed Windows 7 RC which supported the ATI Mobility Radeon x300 allowing me to select the proper maximum resolution. I wanted to install the ATI CCC to see if I could improve my graphics performance which is currently 3.7. I downloaded the latest 9.7 Windows 7 32 bit drivers from AMD (9-7_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu.exe) but according to the Release notes it doesn't support the x300. In fact, when you navigate through to choose the right driver for the x300 it tells you to contact your mfg and we all know Dell doesn't provide updated drivers for older laptops.

Anyway, I extracted it, applied the Mobility Modder which seemed to run ok although I did not turn off UAC since the website only says this is necessary under Vista. I installed the modded driver which completed but after the install it tells me "No ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning properly. Please install the ATI driver appropriate for your ATI hardware." After reboot I am left with the Windows 7 VGASave drivers.

Any idea how I can get the latest CCC to install on my laptop with this x300 graphics card? It's not like Dell gives me any hope of installing a newer card so I'm kind of stuck with what I've got.

Thanks

Re: Mobility Radeon x300 on Dell Inspiron 6000 running Windows 7 RC

Well, after some digging, I discovered that AMD has put the Mobility Radeon X300 on the Legacy Driver Support List (ATI Catalyst? Legacy Display Driver) and only the 9.3.1 Vista 32 bit drivers are available. To top it off they don't even support Windows 7 which is strange since Microsoft has support for the X300 as part of the distribution. In any case, after downloading the 9.3.1 Catalyst Software Suite and applying Mobility Modder, it successfully installed and was recognized immediately. It didn't help my graphics performance per the Windows Experience Index but I have noticed certain applications like Quicken have much improved performance now so I'm happy.

I have the exact same problem with my Dell Inspiron 6000.
But how do you manage to get 3.7 in graphics performance, what graphic driver do you use for that?? I only get 1 point, and I'm using a driver for XP or something from 2005

Re: Mobility Radeon x300 on Dell Inspiron 6000 running Windows 7 RC

I installed the 9-3_1_legacy_vista32-64_dd_ccc and moddet it with mobility modder but got the message:
"No ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning properly. Please install the ATI driver appropriate for your ATI hardware."

So I installed Radeon X300 update from Windows Update and the problem was solved.

Ciao, I have a dell D810 Latitude... and X300 - windows 7 ultimate.

I see in my registry that windows update for X300 report:

Data di installazione: 15:22 ‎28/‎09/‎2009

Stato dell'installazione: Non riuscito

Dettagli errore: Codice 80200053

Tipo di aggiornamento: Consigliato

This driver was provided by ATI Technologies Inc. for support of ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300

I don't know why it has failed.
Any idea to clean te situation and try again?

I've also tried the modification with mobility modded of ati original drivers 9.9 for windows 7 32 bit.
After the reboot (requested after the installation...) I see the message Ati driver is not the right one or is not well functioning ... more and less...

Someone can help me!
It's a laptop so no way to change the graphic card...
Andrea
